Step Inside This Charming Cottage in Limhamn, Sweden

One day, when the children have flown the nest (sniff sniff), I can imagine us downsizing to a little cottage that’s just big enough for Per and me. A cosy place with lovely old features and a fireplace, not far from the sea.

And that’s exactly how I ended up sending Per a link to this little gem yesterday while he was at work (subject line: “priority,” of course!). Needless to say, he agreed that this charming home in the old Limhamn part of Malmö would be the perfect little nest for us.

Maybe it was the hand-made bricks, the exposed beams, or the elegant ceiling rosettes. Or perhaps the solid joinery, mullioned window arches, lofty ceiling height, vintage kitchen, classic stove, and mirrored doors. All the charming details of yesteryear have been beautifully preserved in this semi-detached house from the turn of the century.

Equally lovely are the newer touches that blend seamlessly with the old, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout.

Either way, it’s a little too small for our family right now — but whoever snaps up this cottage is very lucky. Could it be you? I hope you enjoy the tour!

I love the idea of a garden bedroom for guests, too - or maybe it could be converted into an atelier?

Is there anything that stood out to you about this southern Sweden semi? Could you imagine living in a house like this?

I once shared another little cottage in Limhamn here - also charming!

On another note, I completely forgot to share Monday’s post in the newsletter — sorry about that! It’s been a bit of a whirlwind this week as I’m in the middle of a really exciting interior design project here in town.

You might remember that I offered an interior design service a while back — and recently, I decided to bring it back to life. It’s something I truly love doing, and I’m thrilled to be working with more people to create homes that feel just right for them.

If you’re feeling a bit stuck with a corner of your home (or the whole thing!) and could use a friendly helping hand, just drop me an email. My (very lovely) team and I are happy to help — no matter where you are or how big or small your project may be.

Wishing you a happy mid-week!

Niki

  2. From the front facade to the incredible patio....this is such a beautiful and unique home. The old brick and patinaed walls add so much character. The little stove in the kitchen looks very vintage and cute! I do wonder about the bathroom though, the elevated sink base, the commode at an angle and then the curtain behind.....what is it hiding??? But the garden room/bedroom- wowsers! I love that. The rustic character of this house really draws me in. Downsizing when your children leave home is always an option.
My mother always said that children may leave home one by one, but they come back two by two or more!! I think one might not want to downsize too soon as family gatherings and (hopefully) grandchildren need space! In the case of grandchildren- lots of space!!
Your post is always one of my favorite things to check out in the morning, Niki. Thank you so much. I will be looking back at this one on repeat for sure. Good luck with your interior project!! : > )

    1. That is such a great point - I would like to feel that my children and their friends (and perhaps grandchildren one day) always have a place in our home :)
I am now really curious about the curtain - it's a shame we can't reach through the picture and take a peek!

  3. PS....and the huge fly picture in the bedroom....I somehow love that!! Guess I am drawn to nature inspired artwork even if it is something we don't always think of as beautiful. It looks perfect in that room. : > )

  4. The kitchen cabinet and countertop go very well together and then with the beautiful floor. Wonder what shade each is? Lovely blend of dark and light, the dark windows with the light floor. The single long rod for the curtains in the bedroom, along with the opened-up ceiling makes the room more spacious than it may be.
That little wood stove is so my sort:) I'll try sending emails that way, wonder if it might have any effect:)

  7. Utterly charming with the touches of modern comfort and vintage materials, such as the stone, brick and what I think may be plaster? I like the smart looking kitchen and dining spot with the cozy (cosy!) stove, as well as the triangular window in the bedroom. The deck and outdoor dining spot would be divine. I can see why you sent the listing to Per. Very inspirational!

  8. Create as many guesses as you can for a new food word every day. Every guess needs to be a correct word. When playing Foodle, the player has to keep track of how long it will take to get to the following word. Players need to know the language and be able to match and link the correct words in order to complete the game on time.
