Anna Järelöv, a teacher, lives right in the heart of this magical seascape. She and her husband Jacob share their home with their two children on the island of Köpstadsö, in the southern part of the Gothenburg archipelago.
I often find that with Swedish coastal homes, it’s not immediately obvious that they’re by the sea – but there are always subtle hints. A striped cushion here, a touch of blue there, maybe a mirror or lamp with a wave-like form, or a carefully chosen piece of artwork. In Anna Järelöv’s home, however, the biggest giveaway is the incredible view from the windows!
So, pull up a seat, take in the soothing earthy tones and soft textures, and imagine the gentle sound of the Kattegat Sea just beyond the glass. See how many coastal nods you can spot – this home is a true joy!
There were quite a few things that caught my eye in Anna’s lovely home: the kitty (of course!) looking perfectly content, the wavy pedestals for plants (such a lovely idea!), and the green-blue and white striped cushions with ruffled edges (so pretty!). The view from the windows and the terrace is absolutely spectacular too – the ever-changing shapes of the Kattegat Sea are something you’d never tire of.
Is there anything that caught your eye about Anna’s home? Or anything you're curious about that you’d like me to check with her?
Many things caught my eye! My first impression was how rich this home is in textures. I found myself wanting to touch everything, especially the light over the desk area, which I think is glass, but gives the impression of fabric. And yes, I noticed the comfy cat all snuggled up. It would be a delight to see this home in person.
ReplyDeleteI love that you highlight the textures Kris. In my Njuta book I talk a lot about how important 'touch' is in a home as it really elevates the entire experience (even swapping out a plastic cooking utensil for a wooden one can make a difference to your cooking experience).
DeleteThe cat looks so comfy! :)
I’d love to know where the arched lamp over the table in the first slide is from. I need something like this in my home!
ReplyDeleteThis is the Hanging Lamp No3 by Muller Van Severen - it comes in lots of great colours!
DeleteTake a photo of the lamp and put it in Google images search and the lamp should come up, along with similar lamps
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this tip with everyone - a useful tool to know about.
DeleteWhat a soothing and pretty home! So many interesting lighting fixtures and lamps, and all the furnishings and decor accessories are so naturally beautiful together. Many of the art pieces seem to have an organic theme of the sea. Quite fitting given the gorgeous location and view. I spotted the STOFF Nagel candelabra on the cabinet in the dining room. (Side note, after you featured a home with one during the Christmas holidays, I’ve been inspired to start a collection. I can’t quite describe the feeling I had when I opened the package… maybe awe mixed with happiness?) Kitty appeared to be contentedly snuggled in that cozy spot!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you have started a STOFF nagel collection - it is such a timeless design so hopefully it will give you happiness for years to come! There's nothing quite like treating yourself to a design piece like this! :)
DeleteI am absolutely in total love with this home! So many nods to the coastal setting- oh just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo happy yo hear!
DeleteI would like to be this cat just for a day or two!! : > )
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be wonderful? He's living is best life.
DeleteWhat a lovely home and place. I loved visiting Gothenburg as my brother and his Swedish wife had a house by the sea there - annoyingly they moved to Australia but I still miss their lovely home and visiting the Gothenburg area!
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing quite like visiting the Gothenburg archipelago for the first time - I was in absolute awe! Such a pity that your brother and sister-in-law have moved away, hopefully you will still get an opportunity to go back and visit the islands (and Gothenburg) again one day!
DeleteHow lovely! Where I live as soon as you walk into a home by the ocean you really know you’re there. Art work, bedding, towels, dishes , everything is covered in seashells, lobsters and beach umbrellas.
ReplyDeleteThat does sounds fun I must say! There's no right or wrong with these things, but I do love the more subtle touch!
DeleteGreat decor photography. I would like to see full room photos, maybe of the kitchen, bathroom or the homes exterior.
ReplyDeleteI hear you, and sadly I couldn't really find any. However, you could head over to Anna's instagram (link in the post) as she often shares new photos of her home.
DeleteI love the lamps, especially the one above the desk!
ReplyDeleteThank you for highlighting the lamps, I agree!
DeleteI love the lamps and light fittings! Thank you for featuring another lovely home. Amanda
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely! Happy you enjoyed the tour Amanda :)
I obiecuję rozpowszechniać dobrą pracę Lorda Felixa.
