Well, hello there, friends! Happy New Year! I’ve got a good feeling about 2025—how about you? Here on the blog, I’m excited to bring you all my latest discoveries from the world of Scandinavian interiors!
Today in Malmö, it’s pretty bleak—snow, rain, and a howling gale. Needless to say, everyone is hunkering down at home, wrapped in blankets with candles glowing! Meanwhile, across town, interior designer Natalie Cécile Coquand is likely enjoying a cosy bank holiday with her family in their lovely apartment.
Natalie’s work is all about creating spaces that tell a story, and this is beautifully reflected in their Malmö city apartment, which she and her husband have been thoughtfully renovating. After recently moving from the Skåne countryside to embrace city life, traces of their rural roots still shine through in their new home, where old and new come together in perfect harmony.
Ready for the first tour of the year?
Natalie was particularly drawn to the kitchen with all it's natural light and character. Notice how a dark red larder to the left helps to break-up the grey/ green and creates a wonderful contrast.
A ground-floor flat, the kitchen door leads straight out to the courtyard for a cup of coffee in the sunshine (although today, this door is likely firmly shut!).
A separate dining room with a window nook can be used for more formal dinners, and game nights! Note the two toned paint work with darker door frames and skirting boards - a great way to show-off the turn-of-the-century details.
In the sitting room, IKEA shelving helps set the scene for a lovely library.
I love how Natalie has made a feature of the wardrobe doors in her bedroom - painting them in a different tone and adding pretty curtains.
Traditional fabric helps to cover up storage in the hallway and adds a cosy feel.
So lovely!
I hope you enjoyed this peek behind the scenes in sleepy Malmö today.
Is there anything that has given you inspiration for a new year project at home? Or perhaps a detail that stood out in particular?

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments on my final post of 2024 (before Christmas) - I've loved reading them and looking forward to responding this evening.
Here's to a great year ahead!
Niki
I love the paint color in the kitchen especially. Maybe you could include this information if possible?
ReplyDeleteDone! :)
DeleteLove this apartment. It’s exactly the style I like.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear - it's a truly lovely apartment!
DeleteTodo impecable y encantador ❤️❤️❤️❤️
ReplyDelete:) it is so beautiful!
DeleteWelcome back and Happy New Year!! I loved how the colors of the kitchen floor tile blended with the color of the cupboards. It made for a very soothing appearance. I am also imagining that the little lamps on the kitchen counter and the mantle must create a lovely warm glow in the evenings or on dark days.....an idea I can borrow to do something a little different here at home this winter.
ReplyDeleteThank you for pointing this out. Natalie works with the beautiful Swedish kitchen brand Kulladal - and has such a great eye for creating beautiful kitchens, which really shows in her own home too.
DeleteI love the use of lamps too - this type of atmospheric lighting is really important to Scandinavians as it creates a really warm, cosy and inviting feel, exactly what we need here in winter time especially.
Happy New Year, Niki:) a lovely tour to start the year! Like the muted green with the red, and 'the old with the new'. The wardrobe in the bedroom reminds me of Grandmas', open plumbing near the hallway mirror blends in, classy light fixtures.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are able to hunker down at home today!
Thank you for pointing out these details :) I agree, the colour combinations are lovely. Happy new year!
DeleteMy Dad’s hometown is Malmö! Thank you for this home tour, Elle in Palm Springs Ca.
ReplyDeletePS I am also in love with the gorgeous arched window in the dining room!! Nice!
ReplyDeleteThe arched window is lovely!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI like the window in the bathroom, it looks as though there is something semi-transparent attached to the window for privacy, yet lets in light? Was it paper? very curious to know what treatment was done there?
Tracy
Yes, it is a film to create privacy since it is a ground floor flat. They are great as they are really easy to apply and still allow light to flow in. If you search for 'window films' you will likely find many nice ones.
DeleteNatalie’s use of color is both restful and interesting. Love the suds filling the beautiful tub (original to the home?)! The entire home looks very inviting and that door from the kitchen to the garden must be dreamy in the warmer months. Is that a Stoff Nagel on the kitchen table?!
ReplyDeleteThe candle holder is by POLSPOTTEN
DeleteThank you for pointing this out - I too thought it was a Stoff nagel at first sight. Very lovely candleholder.
DeleteI love her use of colour too Pamela - the accents make a real difference to each room.
DeleteStoff Nagel fits special smaller sized candles and the connecting parts are different. These seemed regular sized candles, so a little detective work was in order, since it is a good looking candle holder.
DeleteI hope you had a restful break, Niki. What a beautiful home to share with us. We just hosted a game night, and I'm looking with great envy at that long table in the separate dining room.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kris, I did indeed. I hope you did too? Game nights are so much fun, imagine what you could do around this long table?
DeleteSuper ready for the first tour! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for such a lovely choice and Happy New Year Niki!
Happy to hear, thank you for being here for it! Happy new year :)
