A Swedish Summerhouse in the West Coast Archipelago

Hej friends! The sun is shining, and the Scandinavian summer is in full swing. I have been swept up in the relaxed vibe and now that my children are finally free, we have arrived for a few days in the Swedish high coast - to explore and soak up the scenery of the breath-taking archipelagos. With this in mind, I will be taking some time out from My Scandinavian Home and will be back here again on Monday 22nd July.

But I'd never leave you high and dry without some inspiration - so here are a couple of snapshots from a stunning summer house in Smögen, on Sweden's West Coast complete with its own jetty - after all, Mondays are made for dreaming, right?

So beautiful!

The more I explore of Sweden, the more beauty I find - and with its immense coastline and thousands of lakes, waterfront cottages are forever present!

I have a dream to live overlooking the water - maybe one day this will come true, but for now I will admire from a far! Do you share the same dream? Or perhaps there are other vistas you long for?

Wishing you all a wonderful week - see you next Monday!

  1. Enjoy your time with your family, Niki!

This home is a charmer. I love how they tucked books into the recesses near the ceiling. I can't quite make out the coffee table, but it looks like a unique piece of furniture.

We live close enough to several lakes that I don't really yearn to live ON a lake. I've discovered that there are downsides to waterfront living (flooding, etc.), so while I admire the view, I will keep my waterfront living to vacations only. :)

  2. Pristine cottage...the white walls, wood, wall paper and sheer curtains. My favorite spot was the sofa with the cushion, wooden lamp and sculpture. I didn't notice the books until Kris mentioned it:-)Did observe the knife display.
Dream of having a property close to the water, but not near... half hour drive. We live in earthquake /tsunami zone. Yes, homes close to the river here, are prone to flooding every year, though there are homes close to lakes with their own jetty with sky high prices.

  4. Beautiful cottage. Hope you have enjoyable weather for your stay at the coast; we have nothing but hot weather and so humid that I sometimes think this is what Amazon jungle must feel like. Plus hurricane-level downpour for 3 hours straight today. I look forward to fall!

I live in the beautiful New England town of Marblehead. I agree, this reminds me of Maine! We love heading up there in the summer and fall. My dream is to visit Sweden one day.

  6. Love the scenic setting and the warm and welcoming cottage. Many seem too austere for me, if beautiful. My favorite piece of furniture is the wicker chair in the bedroom.

  7. The photographs make one almost feel what it must be like to be there. I thought the blue and white check (wallpaper?) inset in the wall panels in the kitchen was such a charming touch. The views out the windows is so appealing. I like the idea of living on the water, but as Kris mentioned, prefer it for vacations rather than full time living!

Enjoy your downtime and making summer memories with your family!

  8. I'm wondering what that is under the glass topped coffee table and if that is a butter churn in the kitchen?
