Black and navy in an elegant Swedish home

My Scandinavian Home has been all about colour this past week - and the home tours have really put a smile on my face - I hope they have filled you with inspiration! But dark broody spaces in muted tones are beautiful in their own kind of way too not to mention super elegant - and in the autumn - like a wonderful cocoon. This Swedish home styled by Sasa Antic and beautifully captured by Kristofer Johnsson embraces one of the key colour combinations for A/W15 - black and navy.

Beautiful! Dramatic, yet calm -  quite a combination!

Is this your kind of style?

A guide on where a couple of items are from: vase, snoopy lamp, Flos suspension light.

Other incredible Swedish homes captured by Kristofer Johnsson include this Dalarna home of a calligrapher, the Stockholm home of a fashion stylist and the monochrome home of Annie Lindgren.  I also love all the inspiration in his 'Greyscale' tumblr - beautiful!

Don't miss stylist Sasa's own home here and lots more pictures of today's home tour here.

Have a lovely day!

PS I was overwhelmed at just how popular yesterday's post was - if you missed it, I can definitely recommend checking the home tour out here.

The happy Swedish home of Elsa Billgren

Every now and then I come across a home which I get sooooo extra excited about. More often than not it's because there's something incredibly unique about it that puts a big smile on my face and makes me want to push the boundries in my own home. This Swedish space, belonging to TV host, blogger, stylist and lover of all things vintage - Elsa Billgren, her husband and cat in Stockholm is one of them. Orange smeg? Why not. Green velvet sofa - pass me the swatch. Pink and white piano? Well I hadn't thought about it before, but... . Move over monochrome, today is all about colour.

What a fab home! Loving all the vintage finds - that farmhouse table - (try Etsy), the romantic florals in the bedroom. The plants!

Is there anything that stands out to you?

A note on where a few items are from: smeg fridge, round chopping board, green sofa, knit pouf, rattan side table.

You can see more pictures of Elsa's home on her blog Elsa.elle.se and also over on instagram.

Oodles more colourful home inspiration can be found in a Swedish home with a black floor and bold hues, a creative Parisien apartment and the happy home of a Dutch illustrator.

Have a wonderful day!

A relaxed and light-filled L.A home

Hello! Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend?! I'm feeling especially rejuvenated today after a fun day out mushroom picking* in the forest on Saturday. On the way home we collected some apples from a friends garden too. Our supper that night was especially tasty - if only in our minds! Stuffed baked apples - Mmmmm! Anyway, on with the home tour! I was so excited to discover one of my longtime favourite bloggers Victoria of SF Girl By Bay has posted pictures of her new L.A home. Not suprisingly, it looks fab and truly reflects her blogging style with splashes of colour, midcentury finds and a relaxed, boho feel. Perfect inspiration to start the week. (Spot her cute doggy, Lucy, too!)

So light and relaxed - love it! And did you spot the doggy?!

See more pics of Victoria's home here and a full interview on Refinery29. You can also check out a tour of her previous apartment here (still dreaming about that pink colour on the wall).

Victoria is also author of See San Francisco, the last time I was in San Fran was when I was 10 - I think it's about time I made another trip - don't you?! Everyone tells me it's an amazing city! Have you been?

Have a great start to the week!

PS I love how artist Chompoo Baritone is keeping it real with her recent 'behind the Instagram scene' project.

PPS in case you missed it, this relaxed studio is just the kind of inspiration we need to kick off the working week, don't you think?

* Make sure you check and then double check before consuming any foraged mushrooms. There are many guides online including this one, you can also look online for guides to mushrooms and fungi in your area.

A happy and relaxed, boho studio in L.A

It's Friday - oooo yes! I've been waiting for you! Although don't you feel sometimes the weekends go like this?! I'm finding Californian style so inspiring this week and after yesterday's home I went on a hunt for another happy space. And it came in the form of Justin Blakeney's studio in L.A. The industrial architecture makes a great backdrop - the huge windows let in an abundance of natural light, and I'm loving the high ceilings. But it's the vibrant colours and patterns along with the relaxed boho vibe which caught my eye. I know shocks of colour aren't for everyone (especially if you like the monochrome style) but hey, it's the weekend - and they're designed to be colourful right?!

Justina Blakeney shared with kind permission.

If Monday morning came round and you were headed here wouldn't you feel just a little bit of a skip in your step?!

For more inspiration - Justina is the author behind fab book 'The new Bohemians'. And a ton more office / work / studio space ideas here.

Other links from around the web this weekend:

If you're in the mood for a little DIY project this weekend, I'm loving this key rack (although you might be tempted to buy a neon bag to go with it!).

How cute are these brightly painted sticks and shelves? If you're a bit of a dab hand, perhaps you could make your own this weekend?

Here in Sweden there are deliciously ripe apples all over the ground begging to be baked in a pie or even a comforting melted cheese and apple sandwich - mmmmm!

Oh and if you're looking at doing up a child's bedroom I've just discovered Yorkelee's cute kids prints as seen in this pic (love the swing too!). In fact, they'd look good in any of these lovely children's bedrooms (inspiration galore!).

Have a wonderful weekend!

PS LAST DAY to vote for My Scandinavian Home in the Amara Interior Blog Awards - I'd be so happy if you feel like stopping by here to vote.

A laid-back, boho cool Californian home

After three days of Scandinavian monochrome (here, here and here!) I promised an entirely different look today - and here it is! A laid-back, boho-cool Californian home designed by Amber Lewis for fashion trend forecaster Susan Anderson and Timmy, a music producer. The goal was to keep the Californian aesthetic but add a little 'rock 'n' roll' to this magnificent home (will you look at that A-frame ceiling and those windows). I'm loving the black, white and leather theme with flashes of bold colours and lovely vintage kilim rugs and cushions. Fresh yet relaxed with an edge.

Interior designer: Amber Interiors. Photography: Tessa Neustadt

I want to swap homes - do you think these guys would like to take a sabbatical in Southern Sweden?! Sweden's the world's third biggest exporter of music after all, so it's not impossible - (did you know that all these hits were penned by Swedes?).

What do you think, could you live here?!

Source beautiful kilim rugs here and cushions / pillows here.  IKEA's black and white Stockholm rug is similar. Source mid-century furniture here or online at ebay.

I love a great before and after, don't you?! Take a look at the before pictures of this home here.

Fab spaces with a similar style include this boho space in Florida and a relaxed family home.

Have a lovely day!

PS Only 48 hours of voting to go in the Amara Interior Blog Awards - if you'd like to vote for My Scandinavian Home you'd make my day!
