The stockholm pad of an art director / photographer

The beauty is in the detail in this stunning monochrome Stockholm pad. The space belongs to Sara Medina Lind, a half Swedish half Canarian freelance art director and photographer. Her self-confessed passion for fashion and interior shines through in every image she takes of her home. I couldn't decide whether to include the images of the bed made with grey or white linen. In the end I left both in as inspiration. Which look do you prefer?

Sara Medina Lind with kind permission. Inspired by a post on Nordic Days, with thanks

Oh how I love this monochrome style, how about you?

So many items I recognise including: the classic IKEA EKTORP sofa in Blekinge white, The Kinfolk Table book, 'g' playtype poster,  black sweater by swedish fashion brand Acne. Linen bedding in charcoal and white. A cheeky something from one of my favourite Swedish shops COS (I wonder what?!). Anything else?

Sara has a wonderful blog and instagram account which she constantly updates with her latest work and images of her home. I'll be her latest follower then.

More fab black and white home inspiration here, here and here.

Have a lovely day!

Duvet day in this beautiful Swedish bedroom?!

Hello! And a big ciao to all wonderful new Italian readers too! It's still as grey as ever here in southern Sweden and what I really feel like doing is spending the day in bed reading. Ha! Fine chance! Which is probably why I chose this Swedish apartment for today's home tour - the light filled master bedroom is definitely the star of the show! it's beautiful! The little girl's room is incredibly cute too.  Could you spend the day here?!

Stadshem

The thing I like the most about the master bedroom (yes, I'm still thinking about it...) is that they clearly have a large wardrobe in the little girls room for clothes and yet they still have an open rail for the prettiest clothes (or tomorrow's clothes?) in the bedroom which looks fab. Also, I like the way they've hung the art photography off centre over the bed. And finally a shelf incorporated into a headboard is a great way to do away with bedside tables for a cleaner look.

Some fab pieces from the apartment I know and love: RAR rocking chair in the little girls bedroom with a cosy sheepskin throw and Harlequin wallpaper. String shelves in black. Flos 265 wall light in the dining area. HAY Polygon throw and linen bedding in charcoal. Eames DSR chairs in white and black.

Anything that caught your eye?

More fabulous bedroom inspiration here, here and here with the addition of my bedroom here. And could you IMAGINE sleeping here?!

Must-have bedroom accessory right now: this moroccan pom pom throw (as seen on SF Girl By Bay).

Have a lovely day!

A fab monochrome duplex in Gothenburg

I must admit I'm a bit bleary eyed this morning. We touched down in Sweden late last night and two extra strong coffees haven't helped this morning...worrying?! Perhaps this space will lift my spirits a little? I do love a duplex and this light filled one in Gothenburg is fab. What strikes me is how difficult it must have to been to decorate with all of those angles, and yet the result  appears effortless and very cool. Love the monochrome and wood palette too. The perfect space to brighten up a grey Tuesday wouldn't you agree?!

Spirits are officially lifted! How about yours?!

I can see so many items I love in this space: 'Hey You' print, Cushions: svenskt tenn,  lucky boy Sunday hand, striped, dotted and Hay dot. Cross blanket, HAY tray and DLM tables, artists wooden hand and wooden bird. Thonet 214 chair in white.

I hope you have a lovely day!

A serene Stockholm apartment

Hello! Hope you've had a fabulous weekend? My little family and I have been enjoying a few days in London with family celebrating halloween and even an early bonfire night! It's been so much fun. We're heading home to Sweden today. Amidst all my packing I wanted to quickly share this lovely Stockholm space currently for sale through Fantastic Frank. The colour palette has been kept neutral through out using white, wood, rattan and light grey. I would feel very calm there this Monday morning, how about you?!

Fantastic Frank
I could definitely see myself recreating the beautiful dining space, it looks so serene! I wish I knew where the table and chairs are from - anyone know? The Muuto adaptable dining table is fairly similar.  Is there anything you love in particular about this apartment?

More white, beige and grey inspiration here, here and here.

This week my blog turns three! I can't believe it's been so long. I still absolutely love writing it and I'm so excited to see it expands as time goes on! As a big thank you for all your incredible support I'm holding a fun give-away on here this weekend so make sure you pop by! More to follow....

Have a lovely day!

PS Thank you to Italian publication La Repubblica for featuring an interview with me. What an honour!

A fab Amsterdam apartment

This is my second dutch home tour of the week (see the other one here). I really do love the Dutch style. It's incredibly similar to Swedish decor with the white floors and walls, but the Dutch tend to go for more bright pops of colour. This home, spotted over at wonderful blog French By Design, in the heart of Amsterdam belongs to interior designer / stylist Brechtje Troost. It follows the general Dutch design rule with the white backdrop and bursts of colour but it also features a fab mid-century twist. And wait - I even spot a Swedish print! An apartment truly deserved of the coveted Friday my scandinavian home tour spot, don't you think?!

I love this apartment,  it's very cool don't you think?

For classic mid-century furniture try auction houses Lauritz and Live Auctioneers. I love the cognac tote (similar one here). I'm not sure if it's possible to find a kitty cat as cute as that one though....?

You can read more about this fabulous space Inside Out magazine.

Do you know what I'm noticing more and more of? Wall to wall carpets! Now, I know that in the UK and the US it's extremely common to have carpets in the home, especially in more cosy rooms such as the bedroom and sitting room. But I was amazed to hear a Swedish friend who is currently planning to add carpets to all the bedrooms in her new home. This is something of a revolution. Could it be one of the big trends for 2015?!

How do you feel about wall to wall carpets?

Wishing you all a very happy halloween and a great weekend (up to anything fun?).  See you Monday!

Shades of grey and white in a Stockholm space

Grey really has been the er, hot interior colour this year. Whether it's an entire apartment painted in a striking charcoal grey like this one or light nuances of grey like this one. This apartment designed by Moodhouse follows the latter trend. 'Brohuset' is a new 16 story high glass fronted apartment building overlooking Stockholm (wow!). The apartment has been painted in shades of white and grey and then softened with sheepskin throws and other textiles. I love the half painted grey wall in the hall with the matching chair - definitely an idea to steal! All in all its such a serene space don't you think?

Do you like the mix of whites with greys?

I'm not sure where this lovely Stockholm poster is from (anyone know?) but I came across some similar graphic city posters here. My collection of favourite grey items include these napkins. a super soft grey and white blanket, luxury charcoal linen bedding and this 'fading lake lady' painting (don't you think this print would look lovely in this space?!).

More gorgeous grey interiors here, here and here...

I'm so happy to be in London with my girls for a few days visiting family and re-charging my batteries, are you up to anything fun for half-term?

Have a lovely day!

A striking family home in Melbourne

Beautiful homes in Melbourne, Australia are popping up left, right and centre right now. But this home, recently featured on the Style Files is extra special as it's been nominated for the 2014 Austalian Design Awards. Designed by Robson Rak in collaboration with Made by Cohen, this Edwardian house in Elwood has been transformed into a contemporary light filled family home.  The look is simple and elegant with a mainly black and white theme throughout and yet the space retains a cosy and relaxed vibe. So lovely!

Robson Rak with Made By Cohen

Wow, what a home! Is it just or me or could you imagine this space ever looking messy?!

The one thing that really stands out to me are the window nooks. Those empty spaces by a window usually taken up by a radiator can in fact be the best places in a house to sip a coffee while looking out over the street / countryside beyond, or to read a magazine in the amazing natural light. I love nooks so much I even started a Pinterest board dedicated to them here! Something else for my home in addition to the yellow we talked about yesterday?!

Anything stand out to you in particular?

I've shown my fair share of beautiful Australian homes on my scandinavian home including the modern look here, bohemian here and vintage inspired here!

You could always take a peek at the many stunning homes featured over at Australin blog Design Files too.

Have a wonderful day!
