A Beautiful Swedish Home As White As Its Snowy Surroundings!

We're seeing a load more colour seeping into Scandinavian homes right now. But who said we have to follow the trend? Anette's beautiful Swedish home is proof that white will always be right, too! Her tone on tone palette with subtle nuances of light grey and the odd touch of rustic is the epitome of calm and just like the blanket of snow, it's a picture of peace and tranquillity. Better still, the 'all white' look is super easy to achieve with a few clever tricks. Välkommen in!

Anette has worked hard to break up the white in subtle ways. The nuanced texture in the tiles and marble worktop / back splash help to add interest and depth to the space, while a rustic wood stool* helps to add contrast and bring the space together.

A chrome toaster*, bin and sink carry the white and grey thread throughout the kitchen.

The Gervasoni Ghost sofa is always a winner as the linen adds a lovely relaxed look. If you find the price a little out of your league, combining a Söderhamn sofa from IKEA with an absolute white loose fit linen cover from Bemz will give you a similar look for a fraction of the price (great hack!).

White can appear cool - but Anette has used layers of texture to soften the look. Think soft rugs, linen and fluffy white sheepskins* galore!

Playing with different shapes is also a great way to bring a white look to life. The Atollo lamp* is one of my favourites! Isn't it fab?

Is anyone else a fan of wide wood flooring? I have a sneaking suspicion this one is from Dinesen (one of my favourites!).

The beauty of using white in the home, is that you can add pieces without really 'adding them'. Does that make sense? What I mean is, a bold colourful chair in the corner of this landing could make the area look cluttered, left empty and it could look, well... empty!! But a white eames chair* with a soft white sheepskin* adds something to the space, making it more homely without the visual clutter! Clever! I might just use this trick on my own landing!

This bathroom is divine, don't you think?! The wooden table is from Granit but sadly seems to be out of stock. Annoyingly.

It's that white linen* and rustic bench* look I so love again. It reminds me a little of my old bedroom, a look I might return to one day.

White string storage is perfect for hiding any clutter (and 'colourful' items!).

Surprise! All that white and the exterior is actually jet black. What a beautiful contrast.

Let's take a moment to admire the breath-taking scenery too.

Beautiful. Really beautiful.

I love the simplicity.

Does this all white look appeal to you?

If in doubt, you can see more pictures of Anette's home over at @whitelivingetc and you might also like to check out the beautiful white home of Malin Nilsson. I can also recommend the book For the Love of White by Chrissie Rucker - it's one of my favourites.

Oh, and there's an entire archive dedicated to white homes here - just saying!

Have a lovely day!

How white would you go in the home?

I know Scandinavian homes are synonymous with white, and yesterday's home was pretty white, but the interior designer behind this Swedish apartment has taken things to a whole new level! The floors, walls, furnishings, just about everything - is white! This isn't perhaps a very realistic way to live - as someone once commented here on the blog - 'own a rubiks cube and your stuffed'?! The home has of course been staged for sale through Fantastic Frank - sometime ago) but it's still inspiring in many ways - for example look at the difference a simple cream blanket makes on crisp white linen sheets - so calming. The kitchen is also lovely with a touch of dark wood and black. I guess the key question is, how white would you go?!

I could definitely go for that all white bedroom - so peaceful! How about you?

Get the look - Pick up beautiful stone washed white linen bedding here. This vintage off white blanket is similar - If sold (hurry, there's only one!) I also love this chunky Ecru blanket - it would look so pretty against white sheets.

I have to admit, I have a real weakness for white. One of my friends had an all white wedding and all the guests wore it - it was such a beautiful wedding! I also love the white wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses at this rustic barn wedding (any excuse to indulge in a little wedding photography - and this bohemian wedding does look so romantic (and moving)?!

Other white, white, white homes include this serene home of a designer (love the courtyard) and a calm swedish apartment. And (yes, you guessed it) I have an entire archive dedicated to white homes - this is a Scandinavian Home blog after all! Scroll passed the first home as it will be this one.

 Have a lovely, calm day!

White & Faded: Touring Janet Parrella-van den Berg’s Tuscan Sanctuary

Borta är bra, hemma bäst (away is good, but home is best) - so the Swedish saying goes. And really, there’s no place like home. It’s our very own personal space where we can control the environment and simply be ourselves. When it comes to decorating, there’s no “right” or “wrong” way — it’s all down to personal taste.

Some love to fill their home with joyful colours and a riot of patterns to maximise energy. Others prefer nostalgia, surrounding themselves with treasures collected over time. And then there are those who long for calm minimalism, creating an oasis in which to clear the mind from the noise of the outside world and recuperate in quiet.

The latter is the path Janet Parrella-van den Berg has chosen for her home. An abstract artist and author of White & Faded, Janet — together with her husband, Dino — is the creative force behind the UK-based brand White & Faded, as well as a beautiful property in Lucca, Tuscany, just half an hour from Pisa. Their focus is on restoring old homes and furniture, breathing new life into everything they touch while inspiring clients and followers to embrace stylish, sustainable living.

Now, we’re invited to step inside their Tuscan retreat — an Italian country house full of history, lovingly pared back to reveal its timeless charm. Here, Janet has created a sanctuary painted almost entirely in white. The soft palette enhances natural light, highlights the building's original character, and sets the stage for her philosophy of calm, understated elegance. As she explains: “I couldn’t think of any better colour than white in my home — feared by so many, but loved at the same time.”

Let's take a peek inside.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a home so dedicated to white on here.I can certainly see the white and the faded — true to Janet's signature style. The result is a perfect source of inspiration for anyone who loves to keep things minimal, fresh, and timeless.

Are you a fan of white in your own home, or do you prefer to admire it in the spaces of others?

If you are feeling inspired, here are few tips on the best way to work with white in your home:

  • Layer your whites. Mix warm and cool tones (ivory, cream, chalk, linen) to add depth and avoid a flat, clinical look.

  • Play with texture. Use natural materials like linen, wood, stone, and wool to bring warmth and interest to a white room.

  • Let light do the work. White walls reflect natural light beautifully, so keep windows uncluttered to maximise brightness.

  • Balance with accents. A hint of greenery, rustic wood, or black iron details can anchor the space and make the white feel even fresher.

  • Keep it practical. Washable slipcovers, matte finishes, and wipeable paints make living with white much easier.

Would you like to see a few more homes with a white theme? I love:

Happy Wednesday!

Fifty Shades of White In a Beautiful Swedish Home

If everyone else goes right, go left (so the motivational quote goes). And as current interior trends entice us to add more colour to our homes - there's one lady who has stuck fast to her passion. You might recall Malin Nilsson's beautiful home in Råå, on the South West of Sweden from a Christmas post back in 2016. And I was excited to see from her aptly named instagram feed VittVittVitt ('white white white), that her home still pays homage to her favourite shade. It's a minimalist look that requires attention to detail and a love for texture - and Malin has it in spades, you just need to look closely!

The walls and ceilings have been painted in 0500 by Flügger. The woodwork (doors, skirting boards etc) has been painted in 0502 (also Flügger) to breath life and depth into the overall look.

Texture in the form of shag-pile, metallics (how fabulous are these chairs?!), velvet and rattan help to heighten the visual impact of the space in a subtle yet cosy way.

Vintage chairs from Johansson Design mode Vinga, Gubi semi pendant*.

The flowers add instant colour to the space and have also been arrange in a fairly relaxed, 'wild' way which brings softness to the room.

So, what do you think? Does it stop your colour-dabbed paint brush in its tracks?

It certainly makes me realise that white will always be 'right', even if I might just add a little more colour to my own home here and there this year.

For the colour fiends out there: this archive.

Have a lovely day!

Niki

PS I have the worst cold today so if I've made any errors / I've used words that are a bit off it's because everything is a little hazy today! Any great remedies out there?!

A serene white Malmö apartment

It was a while ago that I showed a completely white apartment. White floors, walls and ceilings maybe, but not everything bar a plant or a chair here and there. Even though I couldn't do the entirely white thing in my own home it doesn't stop me from admiring the beauty and serenity of an all white pallette in other homes such as this apartment here in Malmö. So simple, so beautiful!

Fastighetsförmedlingen via La Maison D'Anna G with thanks.
What's your take on an all white home?

For a good few hours of interior inspiration, you can have a rummage through these past home tours of beautiful white homes. If you're not a white home person now, perhaps you will be after these!

PS I spy the Eames DAR chairs around the table and my favourite DCW chairs in the sitting room (15% off with code MYSCAN). A few choice IKEA items such as the sofa and side cabinet and the wonderful wishbone chair in the corner of the bedroom.  Any ideas where the fab kitchen light is from?
