Autumn Fika in our Little Cabin - and a New Danish Dining Chair!

Sponsored by Skovby, all words are my own and I only work with brands I love. Thank you for supporting the businesses which make My Scandinavian Home possible.

Hejsan! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We spent the past couple of days at the cabin, enjoying plenty of walks, fika (coffee and a small bite), and games of Yahtzee by the fire. Leaving last night was bittersweet, especially with a stormy week ahead in Malmö and even a hint of snow on the horizon.

Before heading back, I captured these pictures of our kitchen/dining room and cosy bed nook (if you’re not familiar with our little cabin, you can check out the full tour here). The focus of these snapshots is the beautiful new 842 chair by Skovby—a Danish brand renowned for its craftsmanship and, true to Scandinavian design, the perfect balance of form and function.

The chairs are on loan (though luckily, the Skovby table and stools are permanent, much-loved fixtures—you can see how the table miraculously extends here), so we were keen to make the most of them!

Here are some more glimpses of our dining area, along with a little more info. Enjoy!

The stackable 842 chair launched in August and is available almost worldwide. The design is inspired by a classic danish dining chair, with a contemporary touch.

Per doesn't get too involved with the design in our home - but he does have one key request: a chair should be comfortable—which, of course, includes having an armrest!

The sculpted armrest on this chair was a big hit—it adds comfort while seamlessly connecting to the backrest. To me, it feels like a warm embrace, adding both function and a beautifully light, airy aesthetic to the overall design.

Candlelight is an essential element at this time of year, and the moment I arrive at the cabin, I can’t help but flit around lighting everything! I have a particular fondness for oil lamps—they have such a nostalgic feel. Do you like oil lamps too?

The branches are from the garden, gathered beneath the oak tree. Per’s brother planted the oak seed 50 years ago when he was just a young boy playing in the garden, and today, it’s one of my favourite features and never fails to provide a beautiful centre-piece for our table, no matter the time of year.

The 842 chair is available in seven different type of wood finishes - this is the oak natural oil version. For added comfort, you can also opt for a removable seat cushion (also available in a few different colours), which as you can imagine - made Per very happy!

All in all, it was such a cosy weekend! I hope you liked these snapshots.

You can find out more info about the 842 chair and your nearest stockist here

I have had the honour of collaborating with Skovby for many years, in fact I am currently seated at a Skovby chair and desk in our home office, featured here (check out a smaller, foldable space-saving desk which I captured in Helen's studio too). I have also photographed a beautiful glass display cabinet in our sitting room - as well as a large dining room and chair set here. There have also been coffee tables (also captured with a Christmassy touch in our cabin), a bench in my bedroom, bar stools in my kitchen - you name it!

Do you have a favourite Skovby item? Or perhaps you have invested in a Skovby piece for your home? If so, I'd love to hear about it.

Do let me know if you're wondering about anything else in the pictures, I'd be happy to help in the comments below.

Would you like to see what it looked like when darkness fell and I was all cosied up in bed in our cabin?

Aaaaah, there's nothing like a fire on a cold Autumn day.

I hope you had a cosy weekend too!

I'll be back with a home tour on Wednesday, until then - stay toasty friends.

A vintage inspired Swedish home full of soul

Every now and again I stumble across a beautifully unique, creative, Swedish home that's full of soul.  This is one of them. Tuva Minna Linn, husband Peter and their two children and dog live in a former missionary house in the countryside in Southern Sweden. The house dates back to 1921 and is teeming with vintage treasures and beautiful patterns, and designed throughout so all the family can feel happy and relaxed. So wonderful! A few weeks ago photographer Kristin Lagerqvist (who's home I once featured here), paid a visit.....

Photography: Kristin Lagerqvist Interior design: Tuva Minna Linn

So lovely! And so lovely life!

The wallpapers, the textiles, the quirky art, the one-off pieces. It's all so inspiring, don't you think?

Is there anything that catches your eye?

Get the look from Minna's home: Boucherouite rugs (this one is beautiful - it's a one-off though so you'd need to be quick!) and vintage kilims (love these!), this leather chesterfield is similar, Minna sells vintage kimonos in her online shop. Children's bed canopy and bunting. Try William Morris for similar wallpaper (Hyacinth is a pretty one).

You can see the full tour of Minna's home here. You might also like to check out Minna's lovely blog, instagram and online shop Oddlovin'

Other homes captured by Kristin include the lovely Swedish home of Johanna Bradford, the boho home and studio of an artist and florist and a dairy in the Swedish countryside. Sooooo beautiful, in a fab boho way.

Have a lovely day!

PS With my favourite month of the year just round the corner there are so many exciting things coming up on My Scandinavian Home  (even if I say so myself!) including a big give-away this evening and a tour of my home with Christmas touches tomorrow (I've been busy with my little elves! Always nerve-racking to share too - eeeeek!), as well as lots of other Nordic Christmas inspiration (and of course the usual Scandinavian inspired home tours)....soooooo excited!

An elegant Stockholm pad with fab windows

It's the weekend! Yay! I actually thought it'd never arrive as my family have all been sick. Poor things! I'm also a bit worried as we have a 7 hour flight on Sunday and I've yet to catch the horrible bug eeeeek. To say I've washed my hands to obsessive levels over the last 24 hours would be an understatement!! I'm also camping out at a coffee shop by the sea to work (under the advice of my doctor sister - if you say so Cas)! On a brighter note,  having blogged about Scandinavian homes for over four years I've started to recognise the photographer before I've even seen the credits. One Swedish photographer with a particularly strong signature style is the talented Kristofer Johnson. You may remember this and this home he captured recently. And now he's back with an equally elegant space in Stockholm. The home belongs to photographer / blogger Louise Ljungberg and has been decorated throughout with that fab mix of grey, green and blue.  I particularly love the sofas and the wonderful windows between the kitchen and bedroom. Let's take a tour...

Everything about this space is just so calm and the large arched windows are beautiful! I also love the shelves across the windows in the kitchen - very clever (do you remember the window shelves in this Australian beach house too?).

Oh how I could camp out here for the weekend, how about you?!

Get the look: Source a rustic bench here (I've just bought one for my bedroom!). Louise's artwork can be spotted throughout the space and is available here. Washed linen bedding in charcoal, light grey, and navy (absolutely love this colour). Dark grey knitted throw.

More absolutely lovely homes captured by Kristofer include a Stockholm pad with a mix of vintage, Ylva Skarp's magnificent country home and the Swedish home of a fashion stylist.

Right, I'd better go off and pack for our holiday - exciting!! Have you ever been to Sri lanka? I will of course be blogging throughout my time there, although bear with me if I have a little wifi trouble at times.

Have a wonderful weekend!

PS One of my all time favourite bloggers, Victoria of SF Girl By Bay - has written such a nice review of my book here. Thank you so much Victoria!

PPS If you're looking for some bedroom inspiration, how about this tip / tour from my lovely friend Valentina (who's home I once featured here).

The wonderful home of a Swedish food blogger

Hello! I hope you had a great weekend?! Out of interest, do you follow any food blogs? I've been pinning yummy looking recipes on my food board for a while now (admittedly most involve either eggs or avocados!). I recently started following Swedish food blogger, journalist and editor Waltzing Matilde (delicious recipes by a Swede in english - what's not to love?!) And today I'm really excited to be able to share a sneak peek into her wonderful home styled / captured by Tina Hellberg and Idha Lindhag. The first thing I noticed of course - is her love of blue, which is evident throughout. it creates such a cool, calm effect and works beautifully against the reds and pinks. She's furnished the home with a lovely mix of Swedish antiques, mid-century finds and items collected on her travels. What a lovely home, don't you think?

Lovely!

Blue really is turning to be the accent colour of 2015. We're seeing so much of it right now. Do you remember this Danish apartment from a few weeks back?  And I love the bedroom wall in this swedish space and blue accessories in this pretty apartment. I also love the blue sofa in the home of Sofia Wood (another Swedish food blogger). For a similar blue paint colour seen in the walls of Matilde's home try Parma Gray or Lulworth Blue.

If you're stuck for what to eat this week I can highly recommend looking through some of the mouthwatering recipes on Matilde's blog. Some of my favourites include Swedish pancakes with cream cheese, lemon curd and cardamom, Swedish chokladbollar with a twist and a meatball sandwich with beetroot, apples and capers. Mmmmmm!

Thank you so much to Idha Lindhag for sending me these fab photos. She always finds the most wonderful homes to photograph including Jade Jagger's Goa hangout, and this and this fabulous Swedish space one.

Have a great start to the week! I'm on my way to New York right now - soooo excited!

A Stationery Designer's Lovely Copenhagen Home

If you've been following My Scandinavian Home for many years (I know some of you've been stopping by since I started this blog in 2011 - thank you!), you'll know that I love to shake things up a little and try to share inspiration for all Scandi tastes and styles - whether large or small (or even on wheels), light or dark and sometimes even a pop of colour! Even if the home tour doesn't fit your specifications, I like to think you can get inspiration from anywhere, and if you look closely, there's always something new and intriguing to take away with you.

In Signe Birkving Bertelsen's Copenhagen home, there's one particular DIY idea that's really captured my imagination (and of course there's some incredible architecture and interior design at play too)! But first, allow me to introduce you.

Signe lives with her husband and two children Karl and Esther in the Danish capital and is co-founder of the danish stationery brand Notem Studio. Simple with a clean, minimalist finish, Signe's home is dotted with interesting furniture and ornaments, which she constantly moves around. As with every home, some are more important to her than others - and the beautiful stool from West Africa (made from a single piece of wood), the AeroPress coffee maker and Akari lamp are listed as ones she'd never part with!

Nora and Laura of Our Food Stories were there to capture these pictures.

Welcome to Signe's world!

This is the piece I was talking about!

And this is the stool from West Africa which Signe would never part with. I can see why, how about you?

I think my favourite corner is in the bedroom with the iconic wishbone chair, sheepskin and reading lamp. The picture also gives you a closer look at the beautiful wooden floor - something which so many old Copenhagen apartments are blessed with!

Is there anything that stood out to you about Signe's apartment? You can read the full interview and see more pictures of her home here

Would you like to take a peek inside a few other Copenhagen homes today? Here are some I love:

And one final question - what piece of furniture or accessory in your home would you never part with?

Niki

PS for some reason the mail out for Fridays post wouldn't work, you can find it here in case you missed the new autumn update in my sitting room. I hope it the mail out will work today - fingers crossed! If you'd like to receive my posts straight to your inbox, don't forget to subscribe further down this page.

Have a great start to the week, see you Wednesday!
