Cosying Up My Sitting Room With A Fluffy New Rug!

Partnership with Natur Pur, all words are my own!:
Tjena! I hope you had a great weekend! I thought I'd kick off the week with a little news from my own home. As with the majority of Scandinavian homes, we have a wood floor - and I have to say I'm the biggest fan. But it does mean we need to throw in a load of rugs to make our home feel cosy. Do you find this too?! On a visit to Domotex flooring fair back in January I discovered Austrian rug brand Natur Pur, a small, family run business based at the foot of the Alps. Their rugs ticked every box: they were super soft and fluffy, handmade to order, incredibly high quality and made from ecological, untreated, undyed sheep wool. Needless to say, we became instant friends! Our Beni Spezial 3230 rug in white and chocolate arrived a few weeks back and is now installed in our sitting room - just in time for Autumn! I have to say; she instantly became a part of the family. We love her!

Fluffiness aside, one of the things I love the most about our new rug is its depth and weight. Our previous rug was really thin and kept creasing - even with an underlay and I am really pleased to have got my hands (or feet?!) on a rug that just sits in place - no monkeying about!

If anyone's looking for me this week, I'll be sitting right here, feeling super cosy!

In case you're on the look out for a new rug, you can see the complete Natur Pur rug collection here and find your nearest shop here

Roll on Autumn, we're ready for you!

My sitting room refresh with Bemz

I'm super excited to reveal my new sitting room today. It's been a long time in the making since I simply couldn't decide which sofa to go for: I've been looking for something our entire family could get cosy on in this Autumn, and of course, a piece that looks beautiful too! The answer came in the form of a marriage between two brands: IKEA and Bemz! Of course, we're all familiar with the first, but have your heard of the latter?! Bemz makes the most beautiful customised, replacement covers for IKEA sofas and armchairs (as well as curtains, cushions and bedroom textiles).  It's such a simple process too. You basically pick out the piece you like from IKEA (or if you're lucky you can find it online second hand), better yet upgrade an existing IKEA piece at home, and then choose from over 250 Bemz colours and patterns, all of which are machine washable and sewn to order in Europe. How great is that?! Here's a sneak peak of what has officially become the most cosy corner in our house... and a little more information about the make-over.

I invited Gen (the wonderful My Scandinavian Home interior designer) over for a brainstorm (any excuse for a coffee and a chat!) and we opted for the SÖDERHAMN three-seat sofa with chaise longue with a Bemz Urban Loose Fit cover in Rosendal Pure Washed Linen in Silver Grey. I have a weakness for relaxed, natural textures and absolutely love the pronounced seams - such a beautiful touch, don't you think?! Not only that, but the Bemz loose fit slipcover completely transforms the look of the original IKEA SÖDERHAMN, giving it an exclusive touch - love that!

The cover was added to the sofa during the assembly process (admittedly I've never been great with an Allen key so I might just have got the man involved at this point!). Of course, while strolling through IKEA I also picked up a few accessories to match - including the Stockholm 2017 chair, GRADVIS vase, VILJESTARK vase, and ARV bowl (hey, the new IKEA catalogue 2018 came out this week, how could I not?!) - but some of the older, more rustic pieces at home fit really nicely with the look too. I hope you like the result as much as I do!

Roll on Autumn!

If you fancy giving an IKEA piece a new lease of life at home, it's well worth checking out the Bemz covers and slipcovers - there are some really beautiful ones. The great thing is IKEA sofas are built to last, and the SÖDERHAMN has a 10 year warranty so if you tire of it or spill your espresso martini, it is easy to update the cover - yay!

I think I might go for a headboard next...!

Have a lovely day!

A visit from a Swedish Ninja

A couple of weeks ago a talented friend of mine - Maria Gustavsson the founder of Swedish Ninja dropped by for a fika. Maria's little boy and my daughter used to be in the same class at school before they moved to Denmark last Autumn (sniff sniff). Maria's so much fun and when it comes to design, it doesn't surprise me that the Swedish Ninja way is to 'create gorgeous, kick-ass designs...with a whole lot of passion and a big sense of humour' - love that! Swedish Ninja designs include the famous Little Darling table lamp (which made big waves when it launched last year), the new Big Darling floor lamp (doubling up as a dimmable light and clothes stand) and the Zick Zack table designed by Olga Bielawska - out at the end of the month. Here are a few of the designs in my own home - I love them soooo much - oh how great it is to have talented friends!

My home captured by Karin: dressing room

As promised, today I'm introducing the first in a mini weekly series called 'my home captured by Karin'. While we were away recently my photographer friend Karin Björklund (who also took my profile picture) spent the day in our home and took lots of lovely pictures. It's fascinating to see how someone else sees your home. I call this room 'my dressing room' since this is where I have my dressing table, keep all my clothes and like to swan about, wafting perfume, reading magazines and generally acting like the movie star I am not! But the rest of my family call it the guest room or TV room....:)

Karin Björklund for My Scandinavian Home

As a guest room it looks like this (it used to be our bedroom). One day the floor will be white.....

Eeek, what do you think? Do you have a versatile room like this in your home?

Here's a bit of a guide on where things are from: wallpaper - Designers Guild, Around Coffee Table - Muuto,  Finnish hemp textile cushion - Saaana ja Olli, mirror - Graham & Green, perfume and apothecary bottles - vintage, tribal gold necklace -Whistles.

PS Merci Beaucoup to Clémence who listed my scandinavian home in your top 5 interior design blogs on Tuesday in Paulette Magazine, such an honour!
