A Finnish home in a converted factory

It's the weekend - woooop! But before we hit the Friday night bars and restaurants (or take-away and telly?!) - I wanted to squeeze in one more wonderful home tour. 'Projekti Verkaranta' - or for the non speaking Finnish out there - 'Project Verkaranta' documents the transformation of an old factory into a wonderful family home. Jutta K, an upcoming designer, and self-professed lover of details, simple design and passionate 'do-it-yourselfer' has created a family home packed with DIY ideas (the daybed! the rail!), fabulous monochrome spaces (that kitchen) and cosy quarters. Let's take a tour...

What an incredible space! I do love old industrial buildings - they always have the most wonderful natural light. And that kitchen is perfection, don't you think? I also spy a Saana ja Olli cushion (one of my favourite Finnish designs!).

Is there anything that stands out to you about this home?

More fabulous factory conversions here (scroll passed this one). And twenty-seven Finnish home tours to be discovered here (as before...).

Are you up to anything fun this weekend? I'm tempted to go out mushroom picking in the forest again in order to make these oh so yummy slices of home comfort! Perfect autumn nosh. That and celebrating the news that My Scandinavian Home has been shortlisted for 'Best European Interiors Blog' in the Amara Interior Blog Awards!- Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me (and to homeware brand Amara) - you're wonderful!! I'm thrilled!

Have a great start to the weekend!

PS Back tomorrow with a few pictures of a new addition in my home...

Inspiring work space in a converted warehouse

The more I see of collaborative or shared office spaces the more I feel they are an extremely inspiring and efficient way of working for independent business people! Designer and illustrator Mairead Murphy of Maike Design Studio converted this disused warehouse space in Northcote, Melbourne into a beautiful, vibrant and inspiring work space for independent designers and artists. It's been designed to maintain the natural light and feeling of large open space but zoned to allow both individual and collaborative work. Minamilist materials have been used to allow the original industrial features to shine through. I could work there, could you?!

Mairead has been so wonderful and sent me an extensive list of where the items are from for example, the dining chairs are Thonet 214 (15% discount with code MYSCAN), the sofa is Angelucci, the armchair was found in a skip and upholstered in Kvadrat tonica fabric, the white rug is Jimmy Possum, the pendant lights over the dining table are Lightyears by Caravaggio and the bench and swing are by Pop & Scott. The list is extensive so if you're wondering about anything else just give me a shout below!

Check out another fab collaborative work space here.

PS I'm off to a great friend's wedding tomorrow - so exciting! I hope you all have a lovely weekend. See you Monday!

White industrial style loft in Barcelona

In February I'm off to one of my favourite cities: the wonderful Barcelona!  I wish I was staying in this modern industrial style apartment, originally a textile workshop. Designing an open plan living space can be so challenging but these guys seemed to have planned it to perfection and just look at the 'bones' they had to play with. *sigh* if only.....

The large light filled rooms are so fantastic. I'm telling you, if I owned this apartment I'd cycle the bicycle (by the door) around it all day just because I could!

What do you think of modern industrial style homes and open plan living?

Any fab design tips for Barcelona?

Wishing you all a lovely day!

A pretty, rustic, minimalistic hotel on Gotland

Ever romanticised of owning a B&B on a beautiful island somewhere? Me? Always! Today I'm dreaming of owning Hotell Magazinet which is now for sale on the wonderful Swedish east coast island of Gotland. Decorated in beautiful rustic, minimal style with orginal floorboards and pillars restored from the days when it was a flour warehouse and then a grain depot in WWII, it's already for you to move in and start receiving guests!

Fantastic Frank
Incidentally, Gotland is a fantastic place to go on holiday. Lots of very trendy and arty Swedes flock there each summer. Some of the summer cottages available to rent are just beautiful. Well worth an internet search!

Hej heeej.

A wonderful open-plan home in Sao Paulo

Brazil today (why not travel the world this week through interior pictures?!) and another fantastic open space. This time architects Felipe Hess and Renata Pedrosa have converted the Oscar Niemeyer space in Sao Paulo. What a home!! I admire anyone who works so well with open spaces as it's something I find tricky - I have a hard enough time with our open plan ktichen and sitting room!! The furniture is FAB too with vintage theatre chairs, a blue Eames rocker, industrial style lamps etc......

A bohemian industrial style converted garage

Hej hej! I hope you had a lovely weekend? Stepping back in time for me today and transporting myself to Philadelphia (I once spent a year there as a student). I didn't stay in a wonderful place like this converted garage in Fishtown though. The owners Doub and John have worked wonders with it. I love the exposed brick and structural columns, the concrete sinks and vintage furniture. If only my student digs had been like this.....

Apartment Therapy
I love the way they have hung up pretty clothes in the bedroom, it makes it look so whimsical.

Have a lovely Monday!
