One of the most amazing things about Copenhagen in summertime is that the water around the city is clean enough to swim in. So, if you're planning a visit, make sure you pack your bathers!
Better still, book an Airbnb like this one. Belonging to Astrid Storm and Phil Thornhill, founder of artist agency Next of Kin, this canal-side property is in what Time Out magazine describes as “one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world” and has its own floating deck, where you can sit and watch the boats bob oby over a morning cup of coffee, take a dip, or even borrow a stand-up paddleboard or kayak. The interior is beautifully decorated too, with red elm panelling and many details made by the owners; what’s not to love?
You can find more details about it on Airbnb or @copenhagencanalhouse.

Oh, and if you do decide to stay here, make sure you pop over the bridge to Malmö during your visit and come and meet me for a coffee too. It’s only a short hop away!
Kram!

Wow! What’s not to LOVE about this warm and modern dwelling. I am smitten.
ReplyDeleteHappy you are smitten by this, it really is a lovely home!
DeleteWhat an interesting light fixture by the sofa. I wonder if different sections of the light illuminate, depending on how much lighting is needed? It's always fun to stay in rentals and imagine what life would be like if you were there permanently. The warmth here is very inviting.
ReplyDeleteThank you for pointing out the lighting fixture, I am imagining it to emit a wonderful warm glow from floor to ceiling!
DeleteYes! Interesting light fixture. That caught my eye first thing. Second thing was the beautiful oriental rug. I love that. The home is so warm and what an interesting neighborhood!! Thank you for sharing! : > )
ReplyDeleteHappy you liked so many details about this home. The neighbourhood looks wonderful - like a modern day Venice!
DeleteI am in Copenhagen right now visiting my son. My husband and I are staying in Nordhavn, which is a revitalized industrial port area. It is a wonderful neighborhood with 3 grocery stores, lots of cafes and restaurants, a large public swim area and us a 10 minute walk to the metro and a 10 minute ride to city center. Love it! We also stayed at MJ’s Hotel in Malmö for one night - it is a very cool and funky hotel.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, welcome to my corner of the world. Your son's neighbourhood sounds wonderful. And I'm so happy you also paid Malmö a visit :)
DeleteLearned today that Copenhagen is Old Norse for Merchants harbor, that it has a canal system smaller to the Netherlands and Venice. Love Airbnbs that are sparingly furnished as this. Love the red elm paneling, huge ceiling and windows and plenty of natural light. And it would be nice to have a quiet coffee by the water in the morning, a quick dip, kayak while the sun sets.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that was what the name meant, thank you so much for sharing that, so interesting!
DeleteIt's a charming space and I have to join the light fixture admirers, it fits the high ceiling space perfectly. But, I have to say I find the Persian very much out of place in this interior - somehow (at least in my mind) it clashes with the concept of the nordic understated interiors. Just my personal opinion obviously.
ReplyDeleteI understand you, it's not something you often see in a Scandinavian interior - and therefore not for everyone. I love the fixture too!
DeleteI disagree with the oriental rug being uncommon - it might not be shown in interior blogs etc very often, but in my experience they are actually quite common in real life. But it might be that they are more common in a particular set of people and generation? Lots of my friends parents have them. And they are often well educated, travel lots, might have lived abroad for periods of time for work etc. And these are not the type of people and homes you often see in interior blogs/magazines, perhaps.
DeleteGood point Rita. I probably should have said - 'in the homes you see here' :) I am trying to think if my Swedish parents-in-law might have one, and I think they do. I must check next time I'm up there!
DeleteVery chic and their artistry shines. Like other readers, I thought the light fixture was a show stopper!
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is! :)
