It’s a beautiful day here in 'Sverige', and with midsummer now just a whisper away, we're all longing for slow days by the water.
And if there was ever a place made for that kind of summer daydream, surely it’s this charming beach cottage in Liseleje on Denmark’s north coast.
Built in 1914, and even winning an architectural award at the time, the house sits perched on a cliff above the Kattegat Sea with its own private steps winding down through wild rosehip and soft sand dunes to the beach below. Can you imagine wandering down there first thing in the morning, coffee in hand, for a brisk dip before everyone else is awake? Would you brave the cold water? I havwe already had my 'badpremier' here and it was 16 degrees C - 'fresh' but invigorating!
The cottage has belonged to the same family for 80 years, and there’s something wonderfully unspoilt about it all. Many of the original details remain, while the interior has been kept simple and relaxed with family heirlooms, antiques and just enough furniture to let the surroundings do the talking. Because really, with that location and view from every window, how could the sea not steal the limelight?
Welcome in for a peek inside this very special Danish summer house.
A charming open-plan summer cottage
Have a lovely, sunny afternoon!

What a place to summer day dream! I would never leave☺ Those windows in the living room make all the difference. Pity there are no pics of the sunroom! Seems like Liseleje alone is a pretty place! Not me for a dip, even over here the water is cold... toujours, tout au long de l'année.
ReplyDeleteThe cottage is simply furnished to relax and rewind. I would have a daybed in the Stue, maybe even two instead of the punitive long blue benches...make one room in the upstairs, a loft with a shelf for books...Love the shade of blue, and along with sage green in sverige homes and cottages are mon préféré. Sad it must leave the family, wonder who the lucky ones will be☺
I really like the fresh blue that we are seeing in some of these recent posts, especially for beach-front property. For me, it would be just enough color to add interest, but not so much that it feels busy. For the commenter above, if you click the link, you can see more pictures. There aren't any pictures of a bathroom, but according to the floorplan, an indoor bathroom does exist. I would especially enjoy sleeping in the room with the picture of the girl over the bed. Imagine the sound of the waves lulling you to sleep!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first looked at this post, I was using my phone. The small pictures did not really show the rustic qualities! I actually liked it better when the more imperfect features were visible. I like the simplicity for a vacation home and I love the blue!! A beautiful beach and a marvelous home with great bones. The new owners should be very happy!! : > )
