Many years ago, Per, the girls and I sailed to the long, slim Baltic island of Öland. It's a fascinating place. to the mainland via a bridge, it's where the Swedish royal family spend much of their summer at nearby Solliden Palace. Funnily enough, while we were walking through the forest, Prince Carl Philip went past on his daily jog!
Anyway, this is a very long-winded way of saying, sorry, but I have another rustic coastal home to share with you this week, which I couldn't resist, not least because it's located right on the shore with spectacular views over the cool blue waters of the Baltic Sea.
Inside, the house is simply furnished with antiques and family heirlooms, evidence of it having remained in the same family for over a century. Whitewashed timber walls, worn wooden furniture and a handsome masonry fireplace create a wonderfully relaxed, unfussy feel, while touches of greenery and wildflowers bring the outdoors in. I also love how the owners have kept the interiors pared back, allowing the sea views to do the talking. Every window seems to frame the Baltic like a work of art.
Ready to take a look around? Let's step inside and enjoy the complete tour.

Imagine waking up here each day, spending your days at the water's edge before falling asleep to the sound of the waves. Helt magiskt (completely magical!), as they say in Sweden. I'll certainly be dreaming about this place all weekend.
I hope you enjoyed the tour of this idyllic rustic cabin too!
I'm looking forward to sharing an extra post with you on Monday - with a guide to my adopted home town of Malmö and all the wonderful things you can do here by the sea - from cafes and restaurants to sauna and sailing!
A little note to say thank you for all your comments and emails lately. We have a little rain on the forecast this weekend, so I thought I'd take some time out with a coffee and sit down to reply to each and every one of you. I so enjoy reading your observations, and you often pick out details I've completely missed. Tack så mycket!
I hope you all have a great weekend!

My heritage being Danish Norwegian and German, I always fell I relate on a deeper level to your posts and photos of Scandinavian homes. However, I would love to compliment you on your beautiful, and grammatically correct of the English language. When almost everyone in the US under age 50 is using the ever popular “me and him/her” instead of he/her and I…it is notable and wonderful to see proper grammar and use of the written English. Thank you
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really appreciate you recognising that. Growing up in the UK we were always taught to keep our writing formal for essays etc. I guess it has stuck with me when writing my books, articles for magazines and this blog over the years.
DeleteIt's a quiet Monday morning after a very busy weekend, and I finally got a chance to check out your Friday post. This is a marriage of the styles that my husband and I like best. I prefer light and airy, and he loves a rustic wooden cabin vibe. You get the best of both here! It looks fresh, but still grounded, with the painted log walls and the wood furniture. Love the sweet built-in bunkbeds and all the built-in cabinetry in the kitchen. The paintings appear to be originals--does an artist own this home? The cabinet in the corner of the dining area is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story of encountering the Prince while out and about! Happy Monday!
It sounds like this could be your perfect home Kris! I wondered if this was home to an artist too, it would be interesting to know!
DeleteTout simplement adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteWhitewashed logs, lovely antique furniture( …that little blackboard and chair/bench), lamps, candelabra, white tasseled fabrics, and in spite of the years, the atmosphere is light and airy. Past few posts have been "Helt magiskt" Love the art and kitchen cabinetry too! Observed how a little green or even blue brings everything together and brightens the space!
In the Olympics, we have little rustic cabins where we would fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves! They are still there today, but the atmosphere is different, commercialisé et tout! Have a pleasant week, ours will be helter-skelter until school closes in two weeks☺
I am so happy you have found my last few posts to be 'helt magiskt' :) Best of luck with your helter-skelter week - almost there and then everyone can relax!
