It’s one of my favourite moments of the year, which is why I’m excited to start sharing some “Jul” inspiration here on the blog ahead of the first Sunday of Advent. Yay! Ready to get cosy?
I thought today’s home tour is the perfect way to ease in. This charming red-and-white country house outside Kristinehamn belongs to Emma and Rickard and their children, and it captures everything I love about Swedish Christmas. They’ve gently updated their 1930s home, blending old character with a light, modern touch that feels especially magical in Advent.
Outside, the landscape is tucked under a fresh layer of snow, and the windows glow with soft Advent lights. Indoors, it’s simple, cosy and wonderfully unhurried — exactly the kind of festive feeling I can’t wait to share more of.
Ready to take a look? Photographer Jonas Lundberg and stylist Anna Truelsen paid a visit and took these lovely pictures.
I love how every room has a little touch of holiday spirit — a few sprigs of pine in the pantry, a star by the bed, even a hyacinth infusing the bathroom with scent.
Do you like to sprinkle festive touches throughout your home too?
Are there any details here that stand out to you — or feel different from your own traditions?
I’m hoping to share a glimpse of my own home next week, and of course, there'll be lots more festive posts to come. In the meantime there’s plenty of yuletide inspiration waiting for you in the Christmas archive.
And before I forget — a big Happy Thanksgiving to all American friends!

ReplyDeleteThank you for your American Thanksgiving Day greetings!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this home, uncluttered warmness at the start of the Christmas season. The colors and style are similar to mine. I can't wait for Monday morning to see what you share with us from your own lovely home. I have that same creche that is pictured above the white cabinet. I'm putting my stars in the windows on Sunday! Thank you so much!
The contrast between a red house and the snow always catches my interest.....so Christmasy! This home is done up so nicely.....the simplicity makes certain features really stand out. My favorite has to be the woodwork around those gorgeous arched doorways. Impressive!! I am also taken with the inside shelves on the pantry cupboard doors.....certainly useful. I wonder if they are always that neat and tidy.....alas! Mine would not stay like that!!! The kitchen is so sweet, but as I am preparing a Thanksgiving turkey today, I am wondering how a cook would get along with that tiny oven....even though I certainly like the way the whole stove set up looks. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful home. It shows us the feeling of peace we all need in our lives.
ReplyDeleteI love all the things that you mentioned--the contrast of the red house against the white snow, the wonderful pantry, and oh, those door arches! The photographer did a marvelous job with framing the pictures to accent the features of the home. I think the nativity set is sweet and meaningful, and the wallpaper (William Morris?) fits perfectly. Thank you for the cozy pictures on a blustery, snowy day, Niki.
DeleteP.S. Oops! I had some computer issues before being able to finish....hopefully all has been resolved! I start Christmas decorating the day after Thanksgiving. I try to do at least a few things in every room, even the bathroom. It doesn't take much to keep us in the holiday spirit! Happy Thanksgiving to our European and worldwide friends!!! Peace and Love to you all. : > )
ReplyDeleteThe first image was beautiful! As you enter at the gate, what a sight! Could see Anna Truelson's touch throughout the home, especially the tall candles in the bathroom and the tree. Thank you!!! At this time, among many other things, I give thanks for posts, that keep me cheery throughout the year! Will look forward to the Jul decor and especially your home:)
ReplyDeleteCorrec: your posts
DeleteIs it just me or do those window coverings look inadequate for snowy temperatures? Also, is that first arch trimmed with pink metallic paint or is it just a reflection?
ReplyDeleteWe usually have very good insulated windows in Scandinavia, if that is your concern. So window coverings are not needed for covering up drafts.
DeleteThank you for sharing with us:)
ReplyDeleteFYI: I will be decorating my home with Scandinavian paper snowflakes this year....inspired by your blog!! I am excited to put them up! : > )
