Do you live in your forever home? As someone who loves change, I find it remarkable that we've lived in our Malmö townhouse for seventeen years. While I love it and cherish the many memories we've created here, I can definitely see us moving once our children grow up. Perhaps it's because it's modern (built in 2001), and I've always been drawn to older properties—homes with charming details from a time when architects added decorative touches purely for the joy of it.
For this reason, one of my favourite pastimes is scouring real estate sites in search of forever homes, daydreaming about what could be! Admittedly, I may have even signed us up for the odd viewing—much to Per’s bemusement! And today, this lovely villa popped up—one I would undoubtedly consider a forever home!
Painted in the traditional Swedish red and white, the house sits just outside Stockholm and dates back to 1907. It has been beautifully maintained by the current owners, who have created a light-filled space with soft, muted tones, patterned wallpaper, and a mix of designer pieces. In the summertime, there are so many inviting spots to soak up the warmer weather—from quiet nooks and social gathering spaces to a sun-drenched terrace, all framed by a charming heart-motif fence.
The downside? It’s 620 km away—which is quite a stretch (Per would say impossible!)—but I thought maybe it might entice one of you, or at the very least, we can dream away together!
Ready to take a stroll on the sunny side?
Hi Niki, I just love all the simple green plants in terracotta pots - so Scandi and easy for me to copy to create that feel in my own home. I love getting your emails every day as a little bit of escapism and dreaming. Thanks! Jane.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved the rows of terracotta pots in Swedish homes too - geraniums are a popular choice. Happy this has inspired you.
DeleteGorgeous home!!
ReplyDeleteHappy you enjoyed the tour too!
DeleteI would love a sun room like that. A perfect mix of outdoor/indoor space. I've never seen a bunk bed like that--it's a super cool style.
ReplyDeleteOliver furniture makes the most cool kids beds!
DeleteThis house exudes such good cheer. My spirits were raised just by this internet peek (thank you from the increasingly dark and scary U.S.) And those pale blue walls are dreamy. I never would have thought to place persimmon colored pillows against the blue and white backdrop but what a pretty and energizing effect. A dream home for sure.
ReplyDeleteYes! This home is dreamy and such nice touches throughout. I agree that this post raised my spirits from a very dark and scary U.S. Thank you for bringing light to us.
DeleteI am so happy this lovely tour raised your spirits just when you needed the lift :)
DeleteI love the window muntins, bistro table and chairs, fanciful balusters, brick patio and tile awning above the door.....and that is just the first photo!! Touring this house had such a calming effect on me. I enjoy lots of white in a home, this one punctuated by lovely blue walls and that cute clover wallper among other things. I am positive someone will love it and buy it soon. Thank you for sharing this lovely abode.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I love about Scandinavian homes is how calm they are - even when messy! I put it down to the pared back style together with the cosy touches - it's a delicate balance, but one they are extremely adept at!
DeleteThis is a really beautiful home I especially like the exterior. We have had 8 homes 6 of which I could happily have made a forever home. We’re in our ‘80’s now and occasionally have a yen to move again :).
ReplyDeleteI love that so many homes can feel like a forever home - gives hope to someone like me who loves change (sounds like we are kindred spirits!).
DeleteDear Niki, thank you so much for your blog! Whenever I need some cheering up, I go to your site and follow you through beautiful Scandinavian houses or apartments. So inspiring and so soothing. And I've been doing it for years. Best regards
ReplyDeleteThank you, it means so much that you find coming to my blog as a place of joy :)
DeleteEach morning before I dare to look at the headlines, I open your latest post. You probably have no idea of how the light you offer is helping us in USA to get through these dark times. Bless you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it warms my heart that this blog is helping others by offering a little light :)
DeleteLovely, lovely home! Not sure if I’m using it correctly, but the word ethereal comes to mind. The shade of blue used in the living room, similar to your daughter’s bedroom is so pretty. Love the rooftop balcony and the sunroom, too. Those are certainly spots to lift your spirits. I can see why this home has elements you hope for in a forever home. Our next home (possibly next year) will be our forever home. I have ideas of what I would like the features to be, but will be flexible on style/architecture. As long as it has lots of pretty, natural light coming in the windows I will be happy!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting that you are might be moving to a new home soon - I am sure you'll find somewhere beautiful to make your own.
DeleteDaily in America, we wake to more good news - so we are on a high here in the most beautiful country in the world. But I sure love to add to my joy by viewing your fantastic pics of other gorgeous homes in other gorgeous places! Thank you for adding to this proud American's daily joy!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear the homes I share bring you joy.
