A Playful One Room Swedish Apartment With a Golden Glow

Looks like we made it (in the words of Barry Manilow), it's Friday! I'm not going to lie; it's been one of those weeks where I've been chasing my tail and never quite able to catch up. But I still wanted to stop by and share this happy, golden glow of a home.

Located in Stockholm, it's 40 sqm (430 ft.sq) so somewhat larger than the small space I showed on Wednesday - but still consists of a one room living room space plus kitchen. I felt it therefore presented another fine way to arrange a room designed for living and sleeping (love the way a canopy is used to shield off the bed and create a cosy, safe nook for some shut eye). If you're struggling with storage, keep an eye out for the units in the hallway (which I believe are IKEA) and the drawers under the bed. Closed storage has been used in other areas too and help to keep the home clutter free.

But there is also more at play here - whoever lives here is into their funky details and takes pride in sourcing one off playful pieces that all come together to create a beautiful and unique home.

I got such a lovely vibe from this home, did you? It's so full of warmth and personality.

When I looked back through the pictures a second time, I couldn't help but notice the wall art which included textiles and paintings. Not only that, but the way a picture has been hung over the door to the sitting room - a unique spot, but it works! That and the mix of textures used throughout which add to the playful feel.

I'd love to hear about what you noticed about this home - and any thoughts you had while looking through the pictures.

As mentioned above, sadly I'm in a bit of a rush today - but I look forward to reading and responding to your comments over the weekend - maybe over a nice big glass of wine!

I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!

Niki

    1. Yes, thank you for pointing these factors out. I find the kitchen often surprisingly big in these smaller Swedish apartments too.

  4. Of course the washing machine and dryer are probably in a basement, shared, also space for buggies, bicycles, garden tools, preserves etc. Where does this person keep their clothes and shoes?!

    1. Yes, correct - that is definitely a perk of these Swedish apartments. The clothes and shoes are stored behind all of the wall to wall cabinets in the entrance way.

  5. Fabrics are what caught my eye too. I would bring the canopy( right side) to the deck door, have some standing space for a quick change. Canopy area is lovely, warm colors, beautiful throw and wall hanging. What a good idea for storage, passes off as a wall!
Comfortable and light- hearted small space.

    1. I love the idea of the quick change behind the canopy. I need something like this in our bedroom at home as we have windows in all directions and neighbours close by. I am always crawling around as not to be spotted in my smalls!

  6. Are you old enough to know Barry Manilow's music, Niki? :)

I love the warmer trends we are seeing in decor. It makes a residence instantly homey. While the styling in your last post is more in keeping with my preferences, I like that the bed is more accessible here, and the curtains give a snug feel. Because I'm hopelessly nosy .... I'm wondering what the doors by the bed are--more storage?

    Happy weekend, all!

    1. I may have given my age away!!

I hadn't spotted the door behind the bed until you mentioned it. It could either be a small cupboard - or sometimes these apartments have two entrances as they used to be two apartments that have become one. Either way I see they have decided to sacrifice it in order to make the most of the space!

  7. Delightful space! The bed nook is charming and the touches of color really enliven the apartment. And the hall cupboards and under-bed storage look very generous.

  11. This kind of bed was common in Edwardian tenements in Glasgow its seems practical as you can hide it in daytime. The apartment itself is nice and so bright.

    1. I'm struggling to find the original source for this - I wonder if it has been designed by the owner with a worktop and base? I absolutely love it too so I hope someone can help :)
