A friend of mine visited Zanzibar a few weeks ago and told me she's found her special place. "It was something to do with the light, I can't really explain it, but it gave me so much energy," she said. I understood immediately. I feel the same about Norway. If you haven't been, it's a MUST - the scenery is magical! One family who get to enjoy the power of the nature daily is Eldrid, Martin and their little son Aron. The family live in a house overlooking one of Norway's most stunning fjords in Stranda in the SunnmØre region of Western Norway. These snapshots from the main living room beautifully capture a home where nature is the order of the day - inside and out!
"Soon the snow will melt, the waterfalls will make music again and the green beauty of the fjord will spring forth." - Eldrid
Could you imagine looking out over this fjord? The weather changing every five minutes as it rolls in off the North Sea - so dramatic!
We're going skiing in Hemsedal in early January - I can't wait! If you have any tips I'd love to hear them!
You can see more pics for Eldrid's cabin here and read more about the region here (I see you can ski there in the winter!)
Naturally I can't wrap up the post without sharing a few more inspiring Norwegian cabins with you! Here are a few I love: a magical Norwegian mountain cabin, a rustic Norwegian cabin hide-away and a cosy Norwegian ski chalet.
Where's your special place?

Paradise!
ReplyDeleteYep!! How I'd love to wake up with this view each day!
DeleteI was very lucky to visit Norway last year, and it was truly spectacular. We in Canada have some amazing landscapes, but I was amazed by Norway's beauty. Those fjords are special for sure. Looking forward to visit again at some point. Lucky them for seeing it every day.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that Canada is a beautiful country too - I'd love to visit one day!
DeleteWe would love to have you. Welcome any time :-)
DeleteI miss Norway - it's my special place too! This space is so beautiful and calming.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! I am so looking forward to going back in January!
DeleteWhat a stunning view! It's a dream of a house!
ReplyDeleteNiki, would you know the name of the light fixture in the first photo (above the dining room table? I love it but I guess it would not make sense to buy it from a European source since everything here is 110 V instead of the usual 220 V in Europe. Thanks!
I think it is the semi pendant by Gubi. You can find a list of dealers on www.gubi.com, they are available internationally.
DeleteThank you Rita - you beat me to it! :) It is indeed the semi pendant by Gubi!
DeleteTror jag är född i fel land, Norge borde vara mitt hemland : )
ReplyDeleteMe too Emma!! I guess at least it's not far away!
DeleteThank you for the kind words about my country! I totally agree, it is beatiful! And this place looks like one of the most beautiful. Love both the fjords and the mountains. I have several special places, but the one I am dreaming of now, is my mountain cabin. Going to spend Christmas there, and I can't wait! Want to have a peek? http://iamturtledesign.blogspot.com/2017/10/hytte-pa-fjellet.html
ReplyDeleteYour cabin looks absolutely wonderful! So cosy! What a perfect place to spend Christmas x
DeleteThank you very much, Rita, for identifying the pendant for me.

If you want to see pictures from our cabin you can fin them at my Instagram profile @astridmvie Scroll till you see pictures of the ocean :-) Have a nice weekend. Love from Astrid
ReplyDeleteI've just been over too your instagram - your cabin is amazing,. and that view is just incredible!!! Thank you for sharing!
DeleteNorway is SO magical! My husband and I chose it as one of the destinations on our honeymoon last year! It was my second time to Norway and his first (we also visited Iceland and Sweden), and I had fallen for it on my first visit, couldn't believe a place out of a fairytale book really existed. That magic quality makes it a perfect place for a honeymoon, especially for folks who love mountains and hiking/backpacking/camping and want something totally romantic but different than a week laying around on a beach (great for some but not for me, I need more excitement!). We hope to go back many more times!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect place for a honeymoon - so romantic!!
