Iiiiiit's Friday, woohoo! I'm looking forward to heading home and taking some down time with my little family. Maybe a walk in the forest with my three year old who's going horse riding, or wrapping up warm to take my elder daughter to her ice skating lesson - BRRRR! (I'll be battling with my man over that one!). Since home is definitely where my heart is today I thought it'd be apt to share the next in my mini series of 'my home captured by Karin'. This time it's my open plan sitting room in the spotlight....I hope you like it!
Pictures 1,2,,5,5,6 by Karin Björklund, Picture 3 by me. |
There's so much to do still - for example we'd like to paint the stairs white or light grey - any thoughts? Also we're in need of more light (especially as the days get shorter), I can't see a thing at night! OK, over exaggeration but...tips welcome!
I think Karin's done a sterling job on the photography. Thank you wondrful, talented K! Note though how my styling left a blanket all messy - just goes to show you can't miss a single trick in styling (I once read about someone who did a shoot over an entire day and then realised there was a bright red toy car under the sofa in every shot!).
In case you're interested here are a few tips on where things are from: Sofa, Scandinavian mid-century table and drinks trolley were inherited, black chairs from a flea market, Diamond print, Wasp print, Chair print, Muuto socket suspension light, phone and coloured cushions, Did I miss anything?!
See also my bedroom, my dining area, and my kitchen if you like :) Do you have any photos to share of your home or one you've photographed / styled?
So, the weekend......so exciting! What are you up to?
I just love your home, and I like the stairs the way they are too.....charming!
ReplyDeleteThose chairs are a find! And I'd love to inherit few mid-century pieces ;) I can't wait to start photographing my loft once the furniture arrives in November. I'm tired of nothing but a folding table in the dining room.
ReplyDeletewow, this is so gorgeous !
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing pictures of your house. What a lovely space! I also like the stairs the way they are, but I am a sucker for wood!
ReplyDeleteYour home is a beautiful representation of your style and hard work. I fall more in love with it the more I see! Have a good (warm!) weekend! xo
ReplyDeleteLovely you Erin, thank you!
DeleteSo gorgeous! Is there room for a lamp behind the sofa? Either a small floor lamp or a table lamp? I also love the stairs as they are. If you really want more white on them maybe go two toned to keep some of that lovely wood? I normally would always say 'paint, paint!' but I really like that wood.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the ideas, we could put a lamp behind the sofa. I am so surprise to hear how much everyone likes the stairs, definitely giving me second thoughts about painting them. I'll think about the two tone too. Have a lovely weekend.
Deletebeauuuuutiful!!!!! II shared a spot of my kitchen a few days ago!!!
ReplyDeletehave a great "relaxing" : - ) weekend!
Ooo I'm on my way to take a look! X
DeleteYes, I love the natural wood. I would keep them that way! Your home is so beautiful!
ReplyDeletexx/ www.hometohem.com
Nooooo! Don't paint the stairs! They are absolutely gorgeous as they are!!!! Love your home. It's beuatiful. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it, so pretty and yes, I would paint the stairs white or dark grey...for light, mirrors!! Have a great weekend! ;-)
ReplyDeleteof course we love it! so beautiful and cozy. i think the stairs are perfect as is...they tie all the wood details in your room together. but, if you are looking for more lighting, i would definitely add some floor lamps...maybe some kind of arch lamp that could tuck into the corner but light the entire area?
ReplyDeleteSoft and Beautiful- very well done! I love your staircase in the light wood and it does ties in nicely with the wood in your furniture. The photos are fabulous:)! Beautiful home!!
ReplyDeletePlease don't paint the stairs! They're the best part.
ReplyDeleteLovely home! I for one, love the stairs like that. But White will be nice too. Not soft grey though.. If you want them to stand out keep them natural, otherwise paint them white. Whatever you do your home will still look gorgeous though! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteIT's lovely!
ReplyDeleteBest, Sanne
What a nice home! It's very cozy in your living room and the stairs fits perfectly to the other wooden things like the table and the accessoires of the furniture. I also would let the stairs as they are, but I can understand, that sometimes you need a change. Regarding the light for me it's important to have many light parts at home. I can imagine, that a floor lamp will be fit in the right corner behind the armchair and maybe a little on at the end of the table. Light is so important, especially at winter, I think! If you are interested, you can have a look at my home at http://www.stylish-living.de/auf-zu-neuen-ufern/. I still have a few pictures and impressions, because we just move to this home, but some more will be follows soon :). This evening we want to cook some Indian food, which we like very much! Have a nice weekend! Nadine
ReplyDeleteLight is so important isn't it? Thanks for the ideas. I'm off to look at your blog now! :) Enjoy the curry (my favourite!). /Niki
DeleteYes, it is Niki! By the way, below of my blog you can choose your favourite language, as I think you can't understand German ;-). I love curry!
DeleteVery very cool blog! "Privet" from Russia! =)
ReplyDeleteThe stairs are beautiful and make the room look warm, inviting and they're architecturally interesting. The white, grey and black elsewhere balances the look and makes it look amazing. Please leave them!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the input, it seems like leaving them as wood is definitely winning :)
DeleteI just love the decoration and its attractive.I want to decorate my room like this so suggest me.To know more about Home Decoration check this out.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are gorgeous, no matter the blanket wasn't perfectly styled: really like them! I love the chair print and I've been "stalking" Muuto to get one since I saw t in IG: how did you manage?! I hope they will sell it soon!
ReplyDeleteElena
Hi Elena , thank you! I got the chair print when i visited Muuto recently to see their new collection. It was designed by talented neighbour from All The Way To Paris. I hope you can get hold of one! x
DeleteI just love it a lot!
ReplyDeleteYour home is a very warm place, love the chair print !
ReplyDeleteCheers from Paris !
I think is so just perfect, adorable right now!!! But as any other women I think also that home will be never exactly like we want... we always desire to change... add details... colors... ;)
ReplyDeleteSerena
love, love, love....
ReplyDeleteYour home is stunning I want to invite myself over! Really, just lovely! And for someone who tends to paint everything white, I think the wood stairs are pure perfection with the wood arms of the chairs, the wood legs on the couch and the coffee table. Oh, and if you look at the photos I took of our home on Decor8, you might just see a car underneath the chair in the last photo. I thought it was hilarious that I hadn't noticed it and left it just like that. :-) http://decor8blog.com/2012/06/19/living-room-decorating-ideas-under-100/
ReplyDeleteYour house is just perfect as it is! I like to see perfect styling but we live in these houses and yes, even the toy under the sofa it's part of our life! I truly love your Muuto print/watercolor. I saw your answer to Elena so I'll keep an eye on it too ;-) If you have enough space behind the armchairs, the best solution is by far a floor lamp (Tolomeo Artemide is by far my favorite one and it makes a wonderful, cozy light). We moved very recently and I started taking pictures of our home, a room at a time (and I guess it will take some time still) http://www.unduetre-ilaria.com/search/label/MY*HOME*AIX Have a lovely Sunday evening x
ReplyDeleteFor this article I ran through bloglovin and by chance. I'm really impressed, because it's the perfect style. From now on I will follow your blog regularly and obtain a faithful female reader from Slovakia. :)
ReplyDeleteI never cease to marvel at your clean, cozy Nordic style. It's beautiful. Scandinavia is a great role model for me. You've got amazing people, nature, have a completely different mentality (better), and also incredibly beautiful interior style. That just motivated me to do this style give his own room and a great inspiration to me. I wish you much success in life as well as in blog :)

I absolutely love this space, what a gorgeous home you have. I know the couch is inherited, however do you know any companies that design couches of similar style? It's honestly amazing, I would love a couch like this! Thank you for always inspiring, I just love reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteHi! Good news, it was the table which was inherited. The sofa is quite new from Bolia. It's called 'north'.

Gorgeous home. I just love the watercolour heart print. Could you please tell me where it's from?
ReplyDeleteHello! The heart print is by a fantastic local artist called Pearl Wallin. I have a few of her limited edition prints now and they are all really beautiful. If you are interested in contacting Pearl send me an e-mail and I can try to put you in touch.
DeleteHello! We have Bolia in Germany too, and I decided to buy north as well some weeks before I found your wonderful blog! Now I am interested in your cover, because it looks similiar to the color I ordered ("Mind" in light grey) I hope, you are still happy with your sofa!!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much and best wishes from Munich!
Julia
The stairs are very Nice, beautiful color, instead of the stairs you should put a beautiful cement look floor, it brings the furniture and the stairs out very strongly! It Also compliments the windows! Show more of the house!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely home. I find one or two big mirrors carefully placed are marvellous for increasing the light..
