Snapshots from a Copenhagen Apartment With Warm Brown Tones

Last year, the visual marketing and visual director of Malene Birger Ellen Dixdotter and her family made the big move from Stockholm to Copenhagen. The family left behind a beautiful apartment that graced the pages of magazines such as The Way We Play and Residence (see the tour here).  I was curious to see how Ellen's style would play out in Denmark's capital city - and was excited to see she's already shared a few snapshots. Think statement furniture in warm brown tones, stucco ceilings, large windows and tremendously high ceilings. Here's an early sneak peek!

Definitely a home to keep an eye on (you can follow the progress here). I'm sure I'll be featuring it again at some point in 2019!

I'm loving the sofa, it's very cool and looks massively cosy too! It's a little like a big warm hug!

Is there anything that caught your eye?

Have a cosy day! Stay warm fellow Nordic friends!

Get The Look: A Bohemian Children's Room In Sepia Tones

I was so excited to share the *golden* home of Sarah Shabacon earlier today. But there was one room I held back as it was just to good to throw in all at once! Isaac and Ziggy's den! The shared boy's room is made up of a few carefully selected pieces all of which are fabulous! I mean, who wouldn't love an palm tree lamp?! And it's all in keeping with the muted, golden colour scheme of the home too. Enjoy the tour!

My eye is still on that palm tree lamp, I feel like I need one of these in my life. Maybe in Allie's room, what do you think? I love the warm, natural tones too.

Is there anything that stands out to you?

If you're looking for a little more inspiration, you can always head over to this archive for more   children's room ideas and Sarah's fab instagram account (word of warning - you could be stuck there for a while!). You might also like to check out her shop BOHÈME to hunt for vintage finds for adults, children and the home too. Just saying!

Trevlig kväll!

The Golden, Vintage-Inspired Home of Sarah Shabacon

I feel like I totally lucked out on Instagram yesterday. I struck upon the account of Sarah Shabacon. Not only does Sarah totally rock all her outfits, she also has a gorgeous family (including husband Ryan and sons Isaac and Ziggy) and the most beautiful home just outside Vancouver, British Columbia. Her personal style and home is testimony to her heritage - her grandfather was a collector, her grandmother is "the most glamorous woman I know" - and she spent her childhood exploring vintage shops with her Mother. Sarah's shop BOHÈME - selling unique vintage items and ethically made pieces "with stories and lives lived far beyond your walls"  - was a natural evolvement. Welcome to a world filled with warm, golden tones and one-off treasures.

The Raffia Mirror is from Moroccan based online shop LRNC - warning: I just got stuck there for the best part of 30 minutes - they sell the most beautiful things! The cream pom pom cushion is available here*

Ikea svalnäs shelves are filled with vintage items and interesting curiosities.

The kitchen / dining area is made up of almost entirely natural materials including wood, rattan and fluffy sheepskin.

I love how her son is sitting on his heels - no way I could sit like that even for a few seconds!

Print from vintage shop Counter Space (check out their current stock here).

Wooden sideboard from pib

How fab is this headboard? It's an IKEA hack made up of two Mandal headboards which Sarah picked up on Craigs List.

Source a wooden clothes rack here*. The fan is from Bohème.

The pieces hanging in Sarah's wardrobe represent the colour palette used throughout her home: rust, brown, cream and rose.

Ahhh, I so enjoyed this home tour. The warm tones, the one-off pieces, the natural materials, everything! How about you?

Could you imagine have a colour palette like this in your living space?

For more inspiration it's totally worth hopping over to Sarah's IG account.

Oh and look out for a mini tour of Ziggy and Isaac's room later (it was way too pretty just to throw in at the end of this tour!).

For more sepia-inspired inspiration, you might like to check out: Audrey Rivet's beige-tinted apartment (I never tire of her cat, he's amazing!), Chestnut tones in a delightful Swedish family home and a lovely Stockholm home inspired by imperfection.

Vi ses senare!

An Inspiring, Serene Home in Napa Valley, California

Hello and Gott Nytt År! (Happy New Year!). I hope you had a wonderful time over the holidays? I totally managed to switch off thanks to a snowy ski trip to Hemsedal in Norway. I love up there and I'm feeling so revived now! The only problem is, I'm feeling sooo slow this morning.  Do you feel the same?! I'm on my third coffee (no 'buck wheat' New Year's resolution for this girl!) and there's no sign of any movement yet! But the good news is I've got a fabulous home tour to share with you! Yay! Captured by Thayer Gowdy for Domino, the house in question belongs to Minted founder and CEO Mariam Naficy. Located in Napa Valley, Mariam's home is absolutely perfect inspiration if you're looking to add texture to your home: think large fluffy rugs, knotted wallhangings, rustic beams and doors and fluffy sheepskins. It's also both colourful, yet calm, contemporary yet relaxed and full of items collected on travels far and wide. Keep a look out for the fabulous wall art which includes prints, wall-hangings, masks and murals too!

What a beautiful home! And all that wine on her doorstep too! *Bliss*!

Is there anything that stands out to you?

You can read more about Mariam's home and where items are from over at Domino here. Thanks also to Victoria of SF Girl By Home where I first spotted this space!

I'm a big fan of Minted, who sell art created by independent artists. I've been working with them since last summer. You can see some examples of our collaborations here, here and here. Definitely a great source for lovely pieces for your walls!

Oh and one more thing. Victoria noted that the mural above the bed was a perfect way to avoid hanging art over the bed in an area at risk of earthquakes. Smart! I also love the idea of a trump l'oeil - there's a beautiful example in the Danish home of Karen Maj Kornum (I saw it in real life when we photographed it for The Scandinavian Home and it was mesmerising!).

Not quite ready to crack on with mundane Monday tasks? You could always check out other beautiful California homes instead. I love this relaxed, boho-style in Orange County,  a beautiful Spanish style house in California and a 1920s storybook home in Oakland Hills.

Have a great start to the week - and here's to a fabulous 2019 friends!
