A laid-back, boho cool Californian home

After three days of Scandinavian monochrome (here, here and here!) I promised an entirely different look today - and here it is! A laid-back, boho-cool Californian home designed by Amber Lewis for fashion trend forecaster Susan Anderson and Timmy, a music producer. The goal was to keep the Californian aesthetic but add a little 'rock 'n' roll' to this magnificent home (will you look at that A-frame ceiling and those windows). I'm loving the black, white and leather theme with flashes of bold colours and lovely vintage kilim rugs and cushions. Fresh yet relaxed with an edge.

I want to swap homes - do you think these guys would like to take a sabbatical in Southern Sweden?! Sweden's the world's third biggest exporter of music after all, so it's not impossible - (did you know that all these hits were penned by Swedes?).

The Helsinki home of a design blogger

I'm transporting us all to Helsinki today (now, wouldn't that be fun?) for a tour around this beautiful Finnish family home. The space belongs to the blogger behind #lagerma and has been beautifully captured by Riika Kantikoski (who's home I recently featured here). Monochrome reigns supreme against a backdrop of high ceilings and fresh white walls. Glass doors in the hallway and a lowered wall in the bedroom help to bounce light around the space. Loving the sleek white furnishings and light fixtures. What a truly fabulous home, don't you think?!

Love, love, love this space! I actually once posted it here but didn't recognise it at first. And guess what....it's for sale! I know! Helsinki anyone?

I'm well aware that this has turned into a bit of a monochrome week (on Monday it was all about the greys in Sweden and yesterday about the crisp black and white in Denmark so I promise to scour the web for some colourful home tours to complete the week! A Danish home is given a fresh, monochrome make-over

I remember when we were looking to move house here in Sweden and looked around a ton of homes (which you can imagine, I loved!).  Sometimes the apartments looked so far from my own style it was hard to imagine myself living there - it can be hard to create a vision of what it could look like, but anything is possible. This Danish apartment in Køge, South of Copenhagen, belongs to Louise Oest Larsen, her husband and little girl and is a perfect example of this. Once a fairly dated space (see the 'before' picture here), the apartment has been transformed into a truly wonderful, fresh and light-filled family home using a splash of white paint, design pieces, mid-century finds and a splash of sunny yellow (that door!). Loving the graphical, monochrome look, how about you?

There are some really clever space saving solutions at work here - the white floors and walls immediately visually enlargen the apartment. Floor to ceiling shelves in the sitting room provide storage and display. And, although long and narrow, the couple have installed a built in bench in the kitchen to create a small dining nook.

There are so many pieces I know and love in this home: dining area: Eames DSW chairs, AJ floor lamp, Flos 265 wall lamp. Sitting room: Tom Dixon etch tea light holder, wall sconce candle holder, By Lassen Kubus candleholder, Lucky Boy Sunday fancy finger cushion, By Lassen Flow cushion. Kitchen: Tripp Trapp chair, Royal Copenhagen jug, letter mugs. Bedroom: wooden birds. Children's room: Sebra cot, House Doctor striped storage. Hallway: TRONES shoe storage, Muuto dots.

When we moved into our house there was some crazy stuff going on with colours - including blue walls and green ceilings. Since then we've painted the entire house white, lighten the floors and built an extra wall! What was your home like when you first bought / rented it?
