My spring office update

Hello there. I love this time of the year - all the leaves unfurling on the trees, the fresh spring colours appearing in the shops and a wonderful abundance of light! Yay! I felt it was about time I dusted down the cobwebs at home and gave it a bit of a spring clean - beginning with my workspace.  I started with a much needed de-clutter and then added a few natural textures such as stone and leather as well as a plant (thought to increase happiness and productivity - worth a shot right?!). But the most exciting update is my new 'the MANTIS' lamp from Houseology. I can't tell you how long I've had my eye on this beauty! Designed in 1951 by Bernard Schottländer, the mantis DCW BS3 table lamp is part of a collection which also includes a ceiling, floor and wall lamp. I've always loved the helical shape of the lampshade, and specifically with the table lamp: that it can be adjusted to three different heights depending on how direct/ where you need the lighting. Perfect! Here's a sneak peak of my updated work space.... I hope you like it!

Creative work space inspiration from Studio Hear Hear

Hello, how are you today? This afternoon I've been invited for a fika at a local creative studio here in Malmö. I love going as not only are the girls super talented, the environment is really inspiring too. It always gets me wondering if I should exchange my home office for a beautiful studio somewhere. I have to admit this has been fueled lately by the recent discovery of Studio Hear Hear just outside Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The design studio belongs to Rena, a self-confessed plant enthusiast and founder of  Hear Hear, an online shop selling handmade ceramics, and a forever changing selection of bags, prints and other items selected for their simplicity and authenticity. The two floor space has been divided into a series of zones from which to run the day-to-day business, create ceramics, and other items and hold themed gatherings such as plant swaps and picnics.  What a wonderful place to work, don't you think?!

If I were to create a studio I'd like it to look like this! Industrial, slightly boho, an abundance of plants (did you spot the indoor climber?) - somewhere warm and sunny to relax, a great space for entertaining....

It reminds me a little of this fab Brooklyn home and studio of two creatives I featured a while back (also lovely!).

The beautiful workspace of an interior designer

The beauty of blogging is that it often takes me to new and wonderful places. Last week I found myself in the home office of interior designer Genevieve Jorn (see her previous apartment here). Originally from Canada, Gen lives with her Danish husband Kasper and cute little daughter Olivia in an old apartment in the centre of Malmö, Sweden. As you can imagine, the space was so inspiring with high ceilings, a dark green accent wall and double french doors leading out to a roof terrace (imagine?!).  Gen agreed it would be the perfect room to add some pieces from Nordal - a wonderful Danish online shop offering a unique range of furniture and decor 'with attitude' (remember this feature from my own dining room?). Here's the result....

Workspace inspiration: an industrial style collaborative space

The other day I went to look at an amazing creative work space here in Malmö. It was in an old factory with a black and white flagstone floor and formerly used as a boxing ring. Unfortunately the timing just wasn't quite right, but at some point in the near future I'd absolutely love to work in an industrial-style shared work space with other creatives like the one I stumbled upon. The Forge in Bristol, England fits the bill quite nicely in fact- and although in the wrong country, it would be an inspiring venue for an event, workshop or just getting together with others and coming up with new ideas! Absolutely loving the exposed bricks, spiral staircase and general relaxed feel of the space. Would it even feel like work if this was your studio?!

I noticed they really are super sticky, super long lasting, can stick on almost anything and are super restickable too (that's a lot of 'supers'!). The only thing is my girls love them too, so they're disappearing at a rapid rate....another box please?

The fab Danish home and studio of a photogapher

Today I thought we'd step inside the fascinating Copenhagen home and studio of Danish photographer Ditte Isager, which she shares with her husband Christian, and little son, Wilder. The space has unexpected looks around every corner - including a cosy sitting room with dark green walls, a calm dining room in muted tones and a modern work studio made entirely from wood (connected to the house via a repurposed staircase).  The home has been decorated with a wonderful mix of Danish classics, vintage finds and items collected on travels.  Let's take a tour!

Although the entire space is pretty fabulous the studio really stands out to me. I love that they've successfully combined it with a guest house / place for the kids to hang out. Is there anything that stands out to you?

Get the look: Sitting room - F&B paint, Arne Jacobsen chair. Kitchen: the cabinets are bespoke - try IKEA's MÄRSTA for similar. This vintage industrial kitchen island is similar (and lovely!). The fabulous studio of an interior designer

Are you back at work this week? Or perhaps you've been working right the way through Christmas (guh!)? Either way, how often do you look around and think - this place seriously needs a make-over?! Today, I'm taking work space inspiration (and in fact, kitchen, dining and sitting room inspiration) from the design studio of Christien Starkenburg - the driving force behind Dutch interior design consultancy firm Interieur + and handmade furniture company SlowWood. Christien follows the philosophy "an interior is the natural projection of the soul'' - Coco Chanel, aspiring to design spaces for her clients using head, heart and a heavy dose of handmade - a philosophy which is projected in her (fab) personal studio too. Let's take a peek inside and prepare to feel inspired....

Looking at this studio takes me back to my days in the corporate world where I used to sit in a giant  open-plan office by a window (on luckier days) overlooking a car park and a motorway - it was my wonderful colleagues which kept me going! Today I'm master of my own work space (which also features on the front cover of this book!) and it makes such a difference to my working day. Is your office environment important to you?
