Workspace envy: Studio Slow

Gooood morning! I'm flying back to Sweden today after an incredible few days on set in Upstate New York. I'm so happy with the results (you can catch a glimpse of it here). All will be revealed soon - I hope you like the space as much as Emily and I do!). Tomorrow I'll be back in the office again, but I've been thinking perhaps it's time to get a studio in town - what do you say? I'm kind of thinking something like this incredible work space of Slow Studio in The Netherlands (hey, a girl can dream right?!). We've seen this space before, but being designers extraordinaire that they are, it's constantly evolving. It's where the talented Studio Slow team work to develop interior design, styling and graphic design concepts - and turn visions into reality with a strong sense of sustainability - love that! Let's take a little peek....

Could you imagine working here? It certainly gives 'open-plan office' a whole new name!

How I'd get the look in my new studio (stil dreaming....): Z1 pendant light (it's no secret that I loooove this light - as you can see from this and this post of my home!), yards of grey linen (beautiful!), lampe gras wall sconce, old dutch teapot, Eames lounge chair and ottoman, Lisabo side table.

My workspace envy also includes the creative space of Katrin Bååth, Avenue Design Studio's converted loft and Studio Hear Hear. Don't get me wrong, I love my little home office, but it would be fun to have somewhere fabulous to go each day and be able to chat to other creatives! Don't you agree? Any tips Malmö friends?!

A small, yet truly inspiring studio apartment!

I've shown many, many small spaces over the years - the majority of which are located in Sweden, but some have been in far away places too, like this tiny home on wheels!  And today I stumbled on another inspirational small space - the studio apartment of Lauren Maclean. Located in Montreal, Canada, Lauren's home is a mere 500 square foot (46 square metre).  Dramatic high ceilings and beautiful period features provide a striking backdrop for a blend of vintage and mid-century pieces as well as some striking works of art. It really does go to show, that some of the best homes come in small packages, don't you agree?!

What a great space? The more I look at the pictures, the more I notice! 

I particularly love the one-off vintage pieces, mid-century furniture and lighting (how fab is that Pelle chandelier ceiling light?!). How about you?

Creative work space inspiration from Studio Hear Hear

Hello, how are you today? This afternoon I've been invited for a fika at a local creative studio here in Malmö. I love going as not only are the girls super talented, the environment is really inspiring too. It always gets me wondering if I should exchange my home office for a beautiful studio somewhere. I have to admit this has been fueled lately by the recent discovery of Studio Hear Hear just outside Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The design studio belongs to Rena, a self-confessed plant enthusiast and founder of  Hear Hear, an online shop selling handmade ceramics, and a forever changing selection of bags, prints and other items selected for their simplicity and authenticity. The two floor space has been divided into a series of zones from which to run the day-to-day business, create ceramics, and other items and hold themed gatherings such as plant swaps and picnics.  What a wonderful place to work, don't you think?!

If I were to create a studio I'd like it to look like this! Industrial, slightly boho, an abundance of plants (did you spot the indoor climber?) - somewhere warm and sunny to relax, a great space for entertaining....

It reminds me a little of this fab Brooklyn home and studio of two creatives I featured a while back (also lovely!).

An inspiring small studio full of contrast

Well hello there! I hope you had a fab weekend? We woke up to a clear blue sky and plus temperatures here in Southern Sweden - oh how long we'd been waiting for that moment! All along the boardwalk faces were angled up towards the sun, soaking up the warm rays. This morning it's as though everyone has a new spring in their step! And I have another reason to feel happy -  call me a total home geek but I do love clever use of a small space. And when it comes to interior designer Joakim Walles studio apartment in Stockholm, it seems that the best things really can come in small packages! Looking at the apartment, it's hard to believe it's a mere 44 metres square (473 foot square - I hope I got that right?! I've been known to get it wildly wrong.....!), Joakim has completely renovated the space - adding in open shelving by Porro and bespoke kitchen and bathroom cabinets. To top it off, the space has been furnished throughout using a perfect blend of industrial, vintage, and designer pieces. The result is a home full of natural light, contrast, wonderful art and a lovely lived in feel. Oh, and it's for sale!

Such a clever use of space, don't you think? I especially love the open shelving used as a division between the sitting room / kitchen area and bedroom. Not only does it create some privacy, it also allow light to slip through, and provides a perfect place to display favourite books, ceramics and artwork.  Got to love that!

Is there anything that stands out to you? 

A couple of items I know and love in Joakim's apartment: Taccia lamp by Flos, source vintage industrial pendants here, the Series 7 arm chair. These wonderful mobiles I posted about recently here are similar.

The beautiful workspace of an interior designer

The beauty of blogging is that it often takes me to new and wonderful places. Last week I found myself in the home office of interior designer Genevieve Jorn (see her previous apartment here). Originally from Canada, Gen lives with her Danish husband Kasper and cute little daughter Olivia in an old apartment in the centre of Malmö, Sweden. As you can imagine, the space was so inspiring with high ceilings, a dark green accent wall and double french doors leading out to a roof terrace (imagine?!).  Gen agreed it would be the perfect room to add some pieces from Nordal - a wonderful Danish online shop offering a unique range of furniture and decor 'with attitude' (remember this feature from my own dining room?). Here's the result....
