Galleries Galore In A Creative Danish Home

'Copencabana' that's what everyone is calling Copenhagen right now due to a scorching summer finale! After work and school, adults and children alike are flocking to the water's edge for a cool dip in the Öresund. Further West in Fredicia, Jutland, Anne Romedahl and her family are no doubt doing the same. I featured Anne's wonderful townhouse back in 2017 - but as someone who loves to update her interior almost daily, so much has happened since then that I felt it was time to revisit! A teacher, Anne is passionate about interior design and her home is filled with flea market finds, Danish classics, art and many DIY items. She has also created an inspiring sunroom and outdoor space with which to enjoy the balmy evenings with her husband and three children. Ready to take a peek? Velkommen!

BTW the pretty floral cushions in the sun room are by Mette Frank (I looked them up as I thought they would be perfect for Allie's room!). Mette also sells fab liberty print eye masks laced with lavender - I spotted them in a shop in Hornbæk last week.

My New Home Office Gallery Wall (From Desenio!)

Since I've been working from home a lot more than usual, I felt I needed to do a little extra with my home office. It's in the corner of my bedroom, so I am always keen to ensure it's pretty to look at too! The answer? Lots of art! I created this gallery wall using prints from Desenio - who sell a huge collection of affordable artwork and ship to over 30 countries worldwide - such a great online resource! As you'll know from other parts of my home - I love a great gallery wall, it's a perfect way to breathe life into a space. My new one has been made up of some beautiful pieces from the collection as well as a blend of different frames and other wall hanging solutions. Read on to find out more! The art I chose is all fairly earthy for a calm look - and yet the style varies from portraits and landscapes to more abstract art. 

Do any stand out to you? In case you're curious, the prints include (from left to right): Weimar Shapes No1 (21 x 30) - hung with polka dot washi tape, Gobi Desert (30 x 40) in a light wood frame, Painted Shapes No2 (30 x 40) in a magnetic wood poster hanger, Opus No5 (30 x 40) in a black picture frame, Berlin Arches No2 (50 x 70) in a white picture frame, Tove Frank Hush (50 x 70) in a light wood frame and Stairs of Art No1 (30 x 40) in a white picture frame. 

I think it's always nice to add another element to a gallery wall - like a row of hooks or shelf, it brings the whole look to life and means you can swap in and out elements according to your mood (and without creating a load more holes in the wall! - Been there, done that!).

I particularly love the light wood picture frame. It's the lightest one I've seen, and it has a real warmth to it but it's also very subtle. I think the Stairs of Art No1 is my favourite out of all the artwork (tucked away int he corner) - I've always had a bit of a penchant for photographic architect photography! 

I think I'm going to be much happier in this little corner now. It's amazing what a difference artwork can make!

A White Danish Home Full Of Art and Scandinavian Design Classics

It's a beautiful sunny day today in Sweden - and I'm dreaming of hopping over the bridge to Copenhagen. The borders are sadly closed (except for those working there), BUT there's no reason why we can't go on a virtual trip, right?! Mathilde Engelund lives in the hip neighbourhood of Vesterbro - one of my favourite parts of town, known for its offbeat shops, art galleries and bars. It's also near the meatpacking district - which is a perfect place to grab a beer in the sunshine (can you tell I'm missing the city?!). Mathilde has a passion for interior design and recycling - which shines through in her choice of art, iconic Scandinavian design classics and eclectic blend of furniture picked up at flea markets, antique fairs and other secondhand sources. As a result, the spacious living space is filled with light and has a wonderful relaxed feel. A perfect family home for Mathilde, her partner and their son Hugo. Velkommen in!

A Charming Danish Family Home With a Fabulous Pink Bathroom!

Hej hej! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I've landed back at my desk with a bump after an amazing weekend in Amsterdam. I started planning it 6 months ago since Per was turning 'jämnt' as they say in Sweden (a big 'round' number!). What he didn't know when we arrived at our hotel was that I'd invited along all of his besties (and their wives) as a surprise. He was so shocked and moved! The whole weekend was so much fun - made even better by the fact that it was an absolutely beautiful city. If you haven't been, I can highly recommend it! 

I wish I'd been organised enough to find a Dutch home tour today, but I do have another beauty to share with you which I think will brighten up your Monday! Ditte Gimm, her partner and their baby Ebbe love in a beautiful house near Aarhus, Denmark. They've spent the past year renovating and furnishing it with a blend of materials, art, one off design pieces and lovely pops of colour! Ready to feel inspired? Nu kör vi! 

A Samsung The Frame TV sits among art from Curated Copenhagen and other galleries. The coffee table and over-size reading Lamp (seen below) are from Hubsch.

Ditte bought her kitchen cabinets from Hth Køkken and the tiles from Marokk.

This fabulous pink wall has been painted in Lazy Summer by Dyrup and the equally fabulous mirror is from Specktrum.

The shower door with black trim is from First Floor Copenhagen (also seen in the bedroom) and the shower head is from Damixa. The tiles are all Marokk.

The glass room dividers add so much elegance to this space - and carve out a sleep zone as well as a walk-in wardrobe. 

The bathroom has been painted in Lazy Summer by Dyrup (I can't tell you how hard I've been thinking about where I can add this colour in my own home since spotting this bathroom!) - could you imagine using this shade somewhere in your home too?  

Isn't this home lovely? 

The highlight for me has to be the bathroom and shower room. The shade is spot on - and I love the green tiles and black faucets!

The Delightful Danish Home Of An Art And Plant Enthusiast

"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life" - Pablo Picasso is famed as saying. And it's true. We have so many demands upon us. By surrounding ourselves with meaningful art and stopping to look at a painting, I mean, really look at a painting, we can get lost for a moment - and truly soothe the soul! It's the same with plants and a great book. Which is perhaps why, homes like this beautiful Danish one resonates with us so much. Charlotte (aka @cph.muse) lives on the edge of a forest in Søllerød in Zealand, Denmark with her husband, teenage son and puppy. The family bought the house in 2012 and have been painstakingly renovating the property while being careful to maintain the 1905 period features.  The result is a truly personal home and a perfect oasis in which to lose yourself for a while. 

"I love 'used' items - they always seem to have such a nice patina and usually tell a fun story. Virtually all of our furniture is second hand. I love vintage ceramics and glassware as well as plants, flowers and art." 

 

"Art creates a unique atmosphere in the home. Good art becomes more beautiful by the day and lasts forever. It makes me happy to look at something beautiful. I buy art through galleries, acquaintances and Lauritz."

"I love plants, gardens and nature. Nature makes me feel mentally calm. It's a real joy keeping plants alive and nurturing them so they become tall and beautiful." 

What a special home!

It's also made me want to go out and see what's available in the local galleries here in Malmö! Do you feel the same? Or perhaps, you already have a home full of art? 

It made me think a little of the Stockholm home of Karolina Modig (I love how she hangs her art so low!) and this Copenhagen home full of art, books and danish design! 

I also love that it's surrounded by nature - so beautiful! My childhood home was also on the edge of woodland and I'll never forget the noises we'd hear at night - from foxes screaming to the hoot of an owl. it could be a little disconcerting at times, but there was something incredible about opening the curtains each morning to layers of greenery.
