A Copenhagen Family Home In Soothing Light Tones

Is it just me or was the weekend a case of Friday... blink.... Monday? And then to add to that I had a phone meeting with my bank at 8 am this morning to discuss pensions (remembered, with alarm at 7.50am) - cue double strength coffee!  Across the bridge in Copenhagen Denmark, the Engell family are also easing into the week - although their household appears a whole lot calmer than ours. That could be to do with Sofie Weinrich Engell's pared-back approach to decorating along with the lovely soothing palette (keep an eye out for the subtle nuances, all of which I've linked to) . Even so, there's plenty of space for her adorable children to play! Ready for a calm tour? Step this way!

I'm in love with this kitchen from Invita Aarhus! Removing top cabinets is a huge trend right now, and works beautifully if you have the space for plenty of lower cabinetry. The simple flowerpot pendants* will add a lovely, warm glow after dark too! 

Those pools of light! If this was my home , I'd grab a book and sit right in the corner, how about you?

Sofie's bedroom wall has been given a lick of paint in soothing Lin by Beckers

The sitting room has been painted in Kliphäll and the children's bedroom in Alvdans, both by Beckers. 

Admittedly, Sofie's children totally stole the show in this tour - aren't they adorable? 

But can we also take a moment to think about the wall colours too? If you're over white but still looking for something calm, subtle nuances like this help to add elegance and depth while maintaining a feeling of calm.

A Warm Rural Swedish Home That Combines Old And New

It's a new dawn, a new day, a new week even. But not a new house tour, especially if you've been reading My Scandinavian home for over four years! Oozing charm and character, the country home of Swedish interior stylist Anna Truelsen has gradually migrated from a more fresh white aesthetic to deeper earthy tones. Which is why I thought it was time to pay another virtual visit! Today, Anna's home is a perfect blend of muted earthy tones, antique furniture, shelves crammed with porcelain collected over the years and several handmade pieces. It's the type of home that looks equally beautiful in all seasons - but there's something about the candlelight, roaring wood burning stove and deep hues in the bedroom that makes it feel especially cosy in the Autumn. Välkommen in! 

Thonet and other vintage chairs* have been arranged around a table that was built by Anna's Grandfather. The plate racks on the wall were also made by 'Morfar'. The wall have been painted Metropolitan AF-690 from Benjamin Moore. 

Anna has been collecting cake stands, terrines, glasses and bowls since she was 17. The collection has been carefully culled over the years, and today, she possesses only the pieces that hold real meaning.

To me, Anna's home is instantly recognisable in magazines and online thanks to the wonderful, original wood burning stove in the kitchen. Isn't it beautiful?

A simple linen tablecloth* adds a soft touch to the grey and white kitchen - while sunflowers provide a burst of sunshine. Sadly, they're fading in Sweden now, are they still in bloom where you are? 

Anna bought a second-hand 4-seat Klippan sofa from Swedish site Blocket and then coveted with a loose fit white linen cover from Bemz*. 

The 'Mediterranean Teal 2123-10' paint colour in the bedroom reminds Anna of the forest! I reckon come December, you'd want to hang out there all day and snuggle up with a good book, don't you think?

This home tour has put me in such a good mood - a perfect way to kick off the week, don't you think?

An Idyllic Rustic Swedish House In The Countryside

Tjena! I hope you had a great weekend! I might be at my studio in the heart of the Malmö right now, but my mind is distinctly in the quiet of the countryside - or at least, that's where I'd love to be today. And when you see this rustic cottage, I've got a feeling you might feel the same! This traditional red and white Swedish house has been decorated in muted greys and fresh white and filled with antiques, vintage finds and lots of interesting art. I could quite happily pad around here all week - working from that desk, tinkering away on the piano, enjoying coffee on the terrace and taking leisurely walks by the water. How about you?! 

What an idyllic retreat!

I have always been a fan of a simple white and light grey combo! 

Incidentally, a friend of mine is moving into a new home this week and asked me to recommend a white paint. In Sweden the most popular seems to be 'Stockholmsvit' (Stockholm white) code S0502Y. It has a warm tint to it which adds a homely vibe of the living space. It also works in well with warm textures such as wood, rattan and other natural, earthy materials. 

I'll be quiet now and leave you to dream!

A Beautiful Swedish Home As White As Its Snowy Surroundings!

We're seeing a load more colour seeping into Scandinavian homes right now. But who said we have to follow the trend? Anette's beautiful Swedish home is proof that white will always be right, too! Her tone on tone palette with subtle nuances of light grey and the odd touch of rustic is the epitome of calm and just like the blanket of snow, it's a picture of peace and tranquillity. Better still, the 'all white' look is super easy to achieve with a few clever tricks. Välkommen in! 

Anette has worked hard to break up the white in subtle ways. The nuanced texture in the tiles and marble worktop / back splash help to add interest and depth to the space, while a rustic wood stool* helps to add contrast and bring the space together.

A chrome toaster*, bin and sink carry the white and grey thread throughout the kitchen. 

The Gervasoni Ghost sofa is always a winner as the linen adds a lovely relaxed look. If you find the price a little out of your league, combining a Söderhamn sofa from IKEA with an absolute white loose fit linen cover from Bemz will give you a similar look for a fraction of the price (great hack!). 

 

White can appear cool - but Anette has used layers of texture to soften the look. Think soft rugs, linen and fluffy white sheepskins* galore! 

Playing with different shapes is also a great way to bring a white look to life. The Atollo lamp* is one of my favourites! Isn't it fab?

Is anyone else a fan of wide wood flooring? I have a sneaking suspicion this one is from Dinesen (one of my favourites!). 

The beauty of using white in the home, is that you can add pieces without really 'adding them'. Does that make sense? What I mean is, a bold colourful chair in the corner of this landing could make the area look cluttered, left empty and it could look, well... empty!! But a white eames chair* with a soft white sheepskin* adds something to the space, making it more homely without the visual clutter! Clever! I might just use this trick on my own landing!

This bathroom is divine, don't you think?! The wooden table is from Granit but sadly seems to be out of stock. Annoyingly. 

It's that white linen* and rustic bench* look I so love again. It reminds me a little of my old bedroom, a look I might return to one day. 

White string storage is perfect for hiding any clutter (and 'colourful' items!).

Surprise! All that white and the exterior is actually jet black. What a beautiful contrast. 

Let's take a moment to admire the breath-taking scenery too. 

Beautiful. Really beautiful.

A Soothing Swedish Home With Subtle Festive Touches

Why, hello there! How's your week going? It's kind of a crazy time in the weeks running up to Christmas, don't you find? I hope you'll be able to find a little respite while enjoying today's post because I've got a lovely Swedish home to share with you! This beautiful Swedish house in Piteå (that's FAR, FAR, FAR north!), belongs to interior stylist and Mother Frida Andersson. The country home has been decorated in soothing tones of green grey which provides a calm backdrop for a blend of traditional and contemporary design pieces and lots of lovely linen! I love the Christmas touches too! Enjoy the tour!

I wonder what Frida's planning to do with the orange slices? Perhaps she's going to make a garland like the one in this post? 

Source a similar linen tablecloth here*. I also spy a Bernadotte thermo pot* by Georg Jensen (I have a new found love for the Danish brand having experienced their Christmas Collectibles first hand yesterday!). 

I wasn't kidding when I said that these paper snow flowers are the biggest thing in Sweden this Christmas! I've shared a DIY tutorial here. 

This sitting room is all about the texture from the wooden chest and Urn to the linen sofa (Bemz do an urban loose fit linen cover* like this for IKEA sofas). The dusting of snow outside adds to the cosy feel too! 

How pretty is this snöblomma in the window? I also love the simplicity of the fir tree branch in the urn. It reminds me a little of the decoration beside our daybed (except I added a single golden Christmas decoration!). I often think more simple seasonal touches are the prettiest. 

The mix of linens in earthy tones add a cosy touch to the bedroom and look super soft too!

There are so many lovely touches in this home - did anything catch your eye? 

I like the wreath in Frida's daughter's bedroom - it's such a pretty way to add a festive touch! Incidentally both my daughters have asked if they can put Christmas trees in their bedrooms this year. There's no way their bedrooms are big enough and we've got a load of guests coming (plus our big tree fell over yesterday - I'm not kidding! - so I'm already battling enough with that one!). But maybe they could each have a mini table toptree? Hmmm. Do you have multiple trees in your home?
