Friday calls for something a little special, don’t you think? This home stopped me mid-scroll. At first glance, it leans into that familiar Scandinavian language, all that white, the soaring ceilings, the light pouring in from every angle, but look a little closer and it begins to feel like something else entirely. Located on the Venice Canal in LA, there is a warmth and looseness to it that softens all that brightness.
It is the home of jewellery designer Irene Neuwirth, who worked with her friend, interior designer Sarah Shetter, to create a space that feels relaxed and personal.
What I love most is the way they have softened the architecture. The bones are crisp and bright, but instead of keeping everything restrained, they have layered in pattern, texture and colour in a way that feels instinctive, laidback and summery rather than styled. The green floral sofa (upholstered in Lotus Garden) sets the tone, it's a little unexpected, a little nostalgic and very lovely! The rest of the decor follows in this vain with wallpapers, vintage wood pieces, woven textures and plenty of art. Books are piled high, shelves are filled with objects that feel like they have been gathered over time, and even the kitchen, with its ladder and long communal table, feels like a place to linger.

J'adore la table de chevet, trop belle. L'évier serait aussi parfait chez moi (sauf que je suis locataire (sniff..)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite things here are the outdoor spaces, the kitchen (Wow!! Everything in the kitchen!!!!) and the bedroom wallpaper. I think the fabric on the green sofa is gorgeous, but maybe in such a large white room I would personally like it better on pillows or used to upholster a chair.....something just a little smaller in size. Though beautiful it feels a little bit jarring to me. That being said, colors in the fabric and its design are lovely. : > )
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree -- I like the fresh touch of floral fabrics against white surfaces, but prefer smaller doses, like pillows that can be easily switched out. The rattan/wicker chairs on the outdoor deck are gorgeous and it looks like they can transform into chaise longue!
DeleteThis is a house for entertaining large groups! I like the airy vibe of this home. I grew up in the era of patterned sofas, and while I like this one, I don't think that I could have one in my own home. Like the person above, I prefer patterns on pillows or maybe a throw, but I admire the bold punch that it adds to this home. The wallpaper is super pretty!
ReplyDeleteI liked the bedroom wallpaper and headboard. What struck me too, were the outdoor spaces,.. olive trees, bamboo lanterns, terra cotta pots, and that roof top deck...sigh!
ReplyDeleteOutdoor fireplace in CA!
If I had a home like this, I might take crafting classes or cooking lessons in summer. Complete with an office space.
Agree with the above comments, that sofa is a bit bold for me, like quieter tones.
Trevlig helg☺
