The current owners of this wonderful bespoke wild cabin, Jamie and Ingrid know a thing or two about design—they also 'rescued' The Little Black Shack, a cosy waterside eco cabin overlooking Mackerel Beach in Australia, and The Little Onsen Cabins in the mountains of Japan. And now, they have turned their hand to this charming cabin too, lovingly designing and restoring it and transforming the space into a solar-powered, handcrafted, off-grid retreat.
“With the help of neighbours (in between surfs), and using rough-sawn Tassie oak from the local timber mill, we rescued the original shed built by surfers over 30 years ago. We also recycled and repurposed existing materials and made everything else by hand. Then we filled it with pre-loved bits and pieces from our travels around the world—and Tasmania.”
Ready to take a peek inside the cabin and soak up views of the spectacular headland and coast? Pour yourself a coffee, and get comfy, this one is a dream!
For those of us making do by soaking up these images and dreaming of a far-off life—did anything in the photos catch your eye? If so, I’d love to hear below!
Have a lovely day,

What a wild and beautiful landscape. I like that the home was made for living off grid. Some Scandi touches like the hanging lights or the chair on the deck, but in some ways the cabin could be placed almost anywhere. The walls remind me of the American west or a Canadian northwoods cabin. This is a most interesting house and I thank you for sharing it will us. : > )
ReplyDeleteI love that you could place this cabin in many different places - and thank you for pointing out the hanging lights!
DeleteThey have so carefully respected all the natural beauty surrounding the cabin. What an ideal get-away spot. The cabin looks so comfortable and well supplied with everything you could want! Someone will definitely enjoy everything they have done with the restoration.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree - it blends in to the nature in a beautiful way!
DeleteMy husband would love this! The location is wild and wonderful, and the woodsy interior is so inviting. I also think this looks like a cabin "up north" in America or Canada.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear this is one for your husband, I can see why he would love it, it's so laidback and understated, yet charming and comfortable.
DeleteThis is what dreams are made of.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed Alena :)
