Partnership with Contura, all words and pictures are my own
Back in January I shared an update on our little cabin while it was under construction. I remember the day well. The sun was streaming in through the windows, even so, clouds formed in the air as we spoke. We decided then and there we needed a log burner!
The idea was to place it in the corner of the sitting room, so we'd be able to see it from all the corners of the cabin (after all, it's about the hygge, right?).
Our go-to was Contura, who are well respected for producing high quality and efficient Swedish-made log burners .
Since our cabin is only 30 metres square (323 f2), we were looking for a relatively small model and settled on the woodburning stove Contura 810 Style.
Above, you can see how it looked when I tested it out using the virtual tool back on that cold January day!
Would you like to see how it looks today?
Tadaaaa! This is the view from our bed! I can't tell you how much we love to wake up beside a roaring fire. So cosy!
The 810 model is available in several different finishes and we chose black steel, with a black steel plate underneath.
We also opted for wood storage underneath to save space (it's only a tiny cabin after all) - it's great to not have to go out to the woodshed every five minutes and I love to be able to see the logs, they add a cosiness to the room even when there's not a fire on the go!
I have to say, the log burner is so efficient that we haven't had to use our electric heating once - we're mercifully grateful for that right now!
Roll on the Swedish winter, we're ready for you! If anyone's looking for us this weekend, we'll be right here by the fire!
Do you have a fireplace too? I'd love to hear about your experience!
Have a cosy weekend friends!
Niki

Draga Niki,
ReplyDeleteEste superb la tine! Adorabil!!!!
Si da, am semineu si din cauza asta inteleg ce inseamna starea de bine. Chiar cu putina murdarie.
Un sfarsit de saptamana minunat,
Mia
Thank you so much :) / Niki
DeleteBeautiful! It looks so cozy!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) / Niki
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Luke! We love it, it's a real focal point of the room / Niki
DeleteYour cabin is so beautiful 🤗 we had a open fireplace since we bought our house in 2005 but did not use it much and I hated how it looked. 3 weeks ago we took it down (dust, dust and more dust) now the wall is ready for the white paint and the wood burning stove is ordered, so we are waiting for 15 dec. to have it installed. Can’t wait 😉
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! These modern wood burning stoves are so amazingly efficient. You're in for a cosy, warm Autumn! /Niki
Deleteps thank you for your kind words about our cabin.
Did you ever do a full tour? Looks beautiful! I'd love to see the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteIf you scroll through earlier posts, you will find a few updates on Niki's cabin. There was a full tour a little bit earlier, and a few updates prior to that.
DeleteThank you so much for your interest, I'm so happy to hear you're curious to see a tour. As Alena mentioned (thank you), I have shared many posts about it, all of which can be found here: https://bit.ly/3D84Kwi
DeleteI receive so many questions about our little cabin (for which I'm so happy!), I think I'll also put together a post with a full tour later this year - watch this space!

We live in rainy, cool Seattle. When we moved into our current house 10 years ago our first purchase was a glass door insert for the large wood burning fireplace. It has become the centerpiece of our home. It draws our family together and we often invite friends to enjoy it. Doing that tonight in fact!
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of your large wood burning fireplace - I wish I could pop over to sit around it with you too, it sounds like such a cosy way to spend an evening!

Love lit! Incredibly cosy♥️
ReplyDeleteThank you / Niki
DeleteIt's wonderful! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kris! / Niki
DeleteThere is nothing nicer than a fire when it's cold outside. Have you tried pine cones dipped in beeswax - they make a great starter, and look beautiful in a basket beside the wood burner.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, I haven't tried this before but I will. Thank you for the tip! / Niki
DeleteIs there no need to protect the wall from heat behind that kind of stove?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the question - the fireplace has been installed by professionals according to Swedish safety standards / regulations and certified. I understand that the distance you are allowed to place fireplaces and chimneys from walls varies from country to country (there has been an interesting discussion about it on the My Scandinavian Home Facebook page).

I love the black wood burning stoves so much!!! To me, they are the quintessential image of hygge (in addition to being very practical).
ReplyDeleteI am very tempted to invest into one - I am not exactly a winter person and 6 months of Canadian winter do not spark any joy in me. My neighbour just installed a big honking generator very close to my house (the houses here are built quite close to one another) to the tune of $15,000. Fortunately, we do not deal with power outages very often but as the climate changes and more impactful weather events are on the rise, it is good to have another option when the power goes out in the middle of winter (the last time it happened, we were without power only about 24 hrs but other cities were not so lucky - about 10 years ago, parts of Toronto were without power for almost 2 weeks after a bad ice storm).
I hear you! I get the feeling the Canadian winter is similar to the Swedish winter - long, cold and dark!
DeleteI love our new fireplace. Not only are they great for warmth (especially if you are at risk of power shortages), but it's also wonderful for wellbeing!
I say, go for it!
