A Serene Helsinki Apartment by the Forest and Sea

This morning I stumbled across the most beautiful instagram feed called @nordic_stories. Jenny's photos are like poetry - and give you a glimpse into her serene 1950s apartment in Helsinki - which she shares with her husband Joel (both architects) and the magical Finnish nature outside their door. Ready to fee the Nordic calm in all its raw, natural beauty? Tervetuloa

"I like to repair and give old things a new life. That's why most of our furniture is inherited or bought second hand. I also make small furniture, art and ceramics."

"We are both architects and fell in love with the 50s charm of the house. The old wooden floors, doors and very functional layout is something we both like a lot."

"The forest is just around the corner from our apartment, which I love."

So beautiful!

Would you like to prolong your virtual journey in Finland today? See more corners of Jenny's home over at @nordic_stories and check out one these dreamy Finnish homes:

It was almost impossible not to feel the calm from each and every one of these homes. I hope you're feeling a sense of serenity from today's post too!

Stor kram!

  1. What I like about this apartment (everything, of course! but in particular -)
    - the pink candles (I recently scored some peachy candles at Ikea)
    - the coffee cups that are almost an identical colour as the candles
    - the little coasters/saucers that somewhat reflect the scalloped edge of the pendant above the table
    - the beveled edges of the kitchen drawers - I want to pet them with my hands
    - the little female statue
    - the path through the meadow
    - the lake!! (I want to jump in and have a swim with Jenny)

  2. Such a soothing space. It's an idyllic location, with the lake and forest close by. I'm curious about what kind of bread is on the plates. I'm a firm believer that tasty items baking in a house make it into a home.

    1. On the third picture from bottom there are 'korvapuusti' i.e. cinnamon rolls on plates. Cinnamon rolls are sweet wheat buns filled with cinnamon, butter and sugar and the dough itself also has sugar in it, so they are eaten as dessert with coffee ( or for 'fika' as they would say in Sweden). Very tasty and at their best fresh from oven with glass of cold milk. ;) greeting from Finland

  3. I'd love to see more of that desk that's reflected in the mirror. It's the most interesting piece in the house.
