I first discovered Sweden when I was 7 years old when I came to visit a friend (Ullis) who had been at school with me in London. We spent the summer at her family's summer cottage in Dalarna, swimming in a lake, eating homegrown lingonberries on waffles, and dancing around a midsummer maypole with wild flowers in our hair*. Seeing this lovely country home at the end of a winding track in MockfjÀrd, Dalarna transports me back to that magical summer. Sanna and her family have furnished their country home using simple yet lovely flea market finds and even items found in the outhouse (including a table which they dusted down and use as their dining table). Wild flowers from the garden can be seen dotted throughout the space. What a charming family home?!
Could you imagine enjoying the midnight sun here?
Personally I've got my eye on that afternoon tea (such a fan of the mon amie tea cups too)....but if I can drag myself away from that - I also absolutely love all the flea market finds - they create such a lovely, relaxed feel.
Is there anything that stands out to you?
Get the look: dining room - vintage mirrors, this black factory light is similar - you'll need to be quick, there's only one! Pick up vintage crates here, bar cart in brass. Source a cactus print here. This shop is currently selling five gold frames like the ones seen, paper pom poms.
If you'd like to see more pictures of Sanna's home you might like to check out her instagram gallery And if you live in Sweden, there's a full feature in Lantliv (6/2016).
I've featured quite a few of photographer Carina Olander's home tours here in the past (with kind permission of course) including the home of a collector, a lovely home with a mix of old and new, and a dreamy master bedroom - oh how I could go back to bed here today - how about you?!
Have a lovely day!

*Who would have thought that same friend would introduce me to my Swedish husband twenty years later? Today we live a few hundred metres down the road from each other and our little girls start school together this autumn - just like we did 3 decades ago.
Enchanting. I absolutely love this wonderful country home. This beautiful sharing has made my day. Thank you all!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to here! I have to admit, it's made my day - and even more so now that it has made someone elses too! :)
DeleteSo cool that you met your husband through a school friend!
ReplyDeleteMost of this home is lovely, although I don't get why anyone would turn their books backwards so that the titles are hidden. Clearly it's just for the look, but what's wrong with showing the titles?!

It's so interesting that you have raised this point Susan, thank you! I had a chat with someone over instagram recently about this and she said that in the British library they used to do the same to preserve the jackets. Although very impractical when searching for a book, I wish I'd done the same in my own home ad I've noticed that all my favourite books have been completely bleached by the sun! having said that, I do think a lot of people do this for purely aesthetic reasons too!
DeleteI wish you could hear all those Oooh's and Aaah's that I was making when looking at the photos in this post. They absolutely melt my heart, so warm, cozy and calming! The only thing I don't understand why it never looks as great when I do it in my own home?!?!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the books with the spines hidden - I see it all over these days (i.e. not in person but online). I think it's for the look and although I originally was opposed to it, I do like the somewhat yellowish/brownish colour of the paper. One thing I never warmed up too are books organized by colour.
It's SUCH a beautiful home isn't it?! Great to hear your views on the books Alena. I have to admit I'm totally guilty with regards to colour organising books *red face* - but now that my book spines are all sun bleached I don't need to do it anymore - hahaha! It's definitely better to have them in subject order!! I might actually find what I need for once! :) Have a lovely day!
DeleteI'm amazed! This is the house of my dreams and people are just asking about the books... This home design is really peaceful and full with lots of bright colors. There are empty picture frames too, but this is something called style. Every little detail is amazing. Thank you for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right - it's the details in this home which makes the space so special, thank you for pointing this out.
DeleteSeing all your amazing blogs makes me want to move from my home in Napa Valley to Sweden!!!
