At home, I’ve been on a bit of a decluttering mission (cue lots of eye-rolling from the teenagers in the household!). Still, there’s something so satisfying about ridding your space of things you no longer use or love and passing them on to someone who will. Are you going through the same process?
I think that’s why I was drawn to today’s home: a modern, minimalist apartment in Södermalm, Stockholm. The home has plenty of storage—both open and closed—so there’s a place for everything, and, importantly, everything is in its place (goals!). Not only that, but I love how, once the clutter is cleared away, the items you do have really stand out. This Swedish flat has some seriously cool design pieces, from tables to lamps.
Is there anything that stood out to you?
Before I go, I wanted to share something a little more personal with you. I truly love writing this blog and being part of this wonderful, kind, and positive community — it genuinely means so much to me. This space has become very special, and knowing that you’re here reading along is something I never take for granted.
Lately, my work schedule has become tighter and more demanding, and I’ve felt the need to slow things down just a little so I can continue showing up here in a way that feels sustainable and joyful. With that in mind, I’ve decided that for the foreseeable future I’ll be posting twice a week — on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I really hope you understand, and I truly appreciate your support and kindness. Please know that I remain just as committed to sharing inspiring homes, beautiful details, and moments of calm with you. See you Thursday!
Niki

More proof that minimalism doesn't need to be cold or clinical and that it can be full of personality! I'm marveling at the clever design of the tiniest bathroom that I've ever seen in the last photo.
ReplyDeleteHappy that your business is doing so well, Niki, and grateful that it won't take you away from us altogether. Among all the design websites yours is my favorite by far.
Yes it’s so warm and inviting - and minimal 💕
DeleteLove the bathroom!
DeleteThank you so much for your kind words of support :)
DeleteI love the teeny guest bathroom too - a marvel indeed!
Very happy that you'll still be posting at all - it's always a joy, and one of the very, very few blogs that comes up on my 'must see' list! I am currently sorting out my own home, and in the process of 'getting rid' to make for clearer spaces. That, plus the simpler palette of colours we've chosen, shows the influence you've had on me - so long may you continue! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you have found so much inspiration over in this little corner of the web - thank you!
Deleteso grateful for all of the light you bring to us. thank you and happy new year!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kathy, happy new year!
DeleteSo glad you are back! Happy New Year! While reading the last few lines, I wondered if you were to stop posting:) Its a relief we can still come to this quiet corner. As stated above, nothing like MSH:)
ReplyDeleteLovely home. Exquisite brass accessories. Forgive me, what's the 'rolling pin' above the dining table(light fixture)!!! love all the light fixtures. The bathroom is practical and beautiful, are they stone tiles? (The bath reminds me of enclosures we had back home to fill up water, no idea what they were called and nothing fancy, just made of concrete)
Ah, no - there's no way I could stop blogging, MSH has been my home since 2011 (I've just realised it's turning fifteen this year!). Thank you :)
Delete'Rolling pin' - did make me laugh!
The bathroom tiles do indeed look like they're made from stone. I love this too - I think this would be the look I'd go for in my own bathroom (if we ever find the budget to renovate it!).
I am also trying to do some decluttering but books …why do so many homes not have any these days? Don’t any of the owners read?
ReplyDeleteI honestly look at every post to see how people have dealt with their books!
DeleteI read lots, but you will never know that from seeing my home. I read onn my Kindle or Ipad, and borrow both digital and physical books from the library. Also, always remember that posts like this only show a selection of the homes - the books might be there. Perhaps in closed shelves, or just one that isn't shown on photos.
DeleteGood question (and answers), and agree that firstly there could well be books out of shot, like they are infact, in this home! - although I'll make a mental note of showing that picture next time!), and secondly, yes - many people read in different ways these days which doesn't always equate to a physical book.
DeleteFunnily enough, I actually subscribed to a print magazine this year - Vogue Scandinavia. I haven't done that for a while - and it makes me realise that we see less stacks of magazines in homes these days too, since many read online. I received the january edition and loved making a big deal of cosying up under a blanket with a candle etc and having a good read. Plus my daughters loved reading it too! We've been missing out it seems!
Seeing a decluttered home is just the inspiration I need!! Welcome back!! I totally understand your need to slow down on the blog and am just thrilled that you will still be here twice weekly!! I so appreciate your presence! : > )
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear that, thank you so much for your words of support!
DeleteI stumbled on your blog a few years ago when I was searching for inspiration and instructions for whitewashing the walls of our log home...I knew I had to go ahead with the project when I saw a log home on your blog that I fell in love with. Your blog has inspired me ever since. It is also perfect for a few minutes of relaxation. I have poked around in a lot of blogs on home design but now yours is the only one I care to follow. It is truly the best! Thank you for sharing your talents through MSH. I was so relieved also that you are not going to leave us! Will look forward to every Tuesday and Thursday!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, thank you so much, what a lovely comment to read! I am so happy you find inspiration here :)
DeleteAdd me to the list of people who, for a brief moment, were afraid that you would no longer post on your blog. This is one of the few blogs that I follow, and I love love love your content. I'm hoping that posting twice weekly gives you the balance that you need. Life has a way of changing and we have to evolve with it.
ReplyDeleteI was missing our Christmas decorations when we took them down last week, but now I am appreciating a tidier home, so it was nice to see today's apartment. Everything is sleek, but still has a warm touch. I am also curious about the light fixture over the dining table. It would be interesting to see what it looks like when it's lit.
So glad you are back, Niki!
Thank you so much Kris - I always love reading your comments - this community wouldn't be the same without you! I was just reflecting above ton how MSH is turning fifteen this year - how crazy is that?
DeleteThe lamp seems to be getting a lot of attention. I've just done some research and I think it's the Tekio Horizontal pendant lamp. This is the description: 'London designer Anthony Dickens was inspired by the traditional Japanese lantern made from washi paper, which dates back to the 14th century...Santa & Cole relies on the hands of experts in the Japanese city of Mito for manufacturing the paper, one of the cities specialized in its production. Tekiò, the Japanese word for adaptation, merges ancient artisan techniques with LED technology that enables control of intensity and color temperature.' Interesting! I've never heard of it before.
Thank you for your posts. I’m grateful for whatever works for you. It’s always a wonderful pause 🥰
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :)
DeleteYour posts are my morning happy place! With a tea in hand your beautiful homes are a little vacation before the day starts!
ReplyDeleteAm happy that your business is doing well and that you will still have time for us!
Thank you so much Christine. It makes me happy to hear you are reading it in just the way I hoped!
DeleteI'm grateful for your posts too and admire you for making needed changes. Love the warmth of this tidy place.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sara, your support is really reassuring :)
DeleteGorgeous!! Would you be able to ask them the color white they have on their walls? I love that it's fresh, but not too bright! Love your posts!!
ReplyDeleteNow, that is an interesting question! I recently carried out an interior design project for a private client in Malmö and we spent ages looking for the perfect off-white. In the end we went with 'blek sand' by Jotun which turned out a lot like this and looked really nice.
DeleteHappy New Year Niki, I also was a bit anxious until I completely read your announcement. It already seemed like you were away a very long time since Christmas, that just makes me appreciate your lovely blog even more. One of the very first things I do on your posting days when I turn on my laptop, is to look for My Scandinavian Home, I just love it! Thank you so very much for sharing your time with us, it's a pure gift! I have already mentally moved to Tuesday and Thursday. So happy to hear that you business is briskly moving forward.

ReplyDeleteBest regards
Thank you so much Natalia :)
DeleteThis is a lovely bright home but I’m afraid I might spoil the look with cushions on the dining chairs, I’ve reached that age. Glad to read that you will continue posting even if not so often. Happy New Year!
