The best of both worlds in a fabulous Brooklyn home

I've always thought of myself as a bit of a monochrome girl, but recently colour has started to sneak its way into my home. While white can make a space feel serene, touches of bold colour can lift the spirits on a grey day. The newly renovated four storey Brooklyn home of Jenni Li, photographer and filmmaker Hans Gissinger and their three children has achieved the best of both worlds. Photographed by Brittany Umbridge for Domino magazine, the house has been decorated with a white base and then bright pops of colour have been added using flowers, art, peruvian textiles, balls of wool and other materials. What a fabulous home!

Such a great home don't you think? And the exciting thing is that it demonstrated just how easy it can be to add colour to a space - even for the most colour shy of people! Love that!

Read the full article about the renovation on Domino magazine here. And again, thank you so much to Domino for including me in their list of 26 best design blogs, 2014, a true honour!

For other beautiful homes with pops of colour I also love this Swedish apartment and this Melbourne home of an illustrator. It's definitely a colour me happy day, despite the grey outside here in Southern Sweden.

Have a lovely day!

A cute holiday home on Gotland

It's always great to have somewhere not far from home on your wishlist of places to visit. One place I've been wanting to spend a summer is the island of Gotland, off Sweden's east coast. I've featured many extremely cool houses from the island before (see this, this and this space - oh so fabulous). And today I came across this cute home (and guest house) currently for sale in the island's capital of Visby. The decor is slightly unusual with the green floor, yellow ceiling and red pipes but there's something about it that warmed my heart this overcast Wednesday morning.....how about you?

FastighetsbyrÄn

I'm loving the dining space with it's green floor (do you remember this kitchen with the green floor?) and eclectic mix of chairs and the shower - copper + pink is always a winner in my eyes. And I'm sure I could spend a weekend in the guest 'eaves'. How about you?

I do love to dream over holiday destinations don't you? One of the key things for me is staying somewhere fabulous whether it means low key surf shack or luxury resort. In case your idea of paradise is somewhere warmer and further afield than Gotland how about one of these places?! Another place I have always wanted to visit is Giraffe Manor in Nairobi - where giraffes stroll around the garden and peer through your bedroom window - imagine that?!!

Dream on...and have a lovely day!

Madelynn's fabulous industrial style loft.

Today is one of those days where I'd like to just potter about at home. Forget that. I'd actually like to potter around Madelynn Hackwith Furlong's home. Madelynn is a stylist, designer, wardrobe consultant and the fab blogger behind wide eyed legless. She is also the owner of this relaxed industrial style loft in Minneapolis. Madelynn's also pretty lovely (she sent me many of these images), has amazing taste (I love the relaxed feel of the space don't you?) and also popular (when I researched this post I'd never seen the space before and have since found it on a whole host of blogs!) But just in case you missed it too......

My favourite item has to be that copper clothes hanger which Madelynn made herself (in fact, she's provided the DIY instructions for this on SF Girl By Bay here, perfect!).

And there's that gorgeous dog too of course......

What do you love most about this home?

If you're in the mood for other industrial style inspiration today you might want to take a look at this Swedish studio, this industrial space teeming with flee market finds and the Copenhagen restaurant Höst.

Before I leave you to your Tuesday, I'd like to highly recommend (and congratulate) Tiny Tribe Magazine for their first ever edition out this week. if you're looking for children's inspiration this is a must read. I was truly honoured to be interviewed for the magazine too! Thank you for including me Tiny Tribe!

Have a lovely day!

A fabulous black and white Swedish home

I do love to start the month (and week) with a fabulous home. And just look what I found.... I'm actually not sure where to start with what I love most about this space. The black floors? The cornicing? The designer / on trend pieces? Whatever it is about this home, it's for sale here in Sweden and I'm incredibly tempted, how about you?!

Could you live here?

I'll try not to go to town on the 'I spy', but here are a few pieces that caught my eye: Muuto dot clothes hooks, Gubi semi-pendant light, string shelving, moroccan poufs, Thonet 214 chair, Hay industrial light, IKEA 365 BRASA reading light and Carl Hansen CH24 wishbone chairs.

Other utterly incredible monochrome homes to brighten up a Monday found here, here and here....

Have a wonderful start to the week!
