Could You Imagine Living In This Dreamy Swedish Home?

Why, hello there! I'm tearing about preparing for a trip to Norway (my heart land!) this afternoon. But I couldn't leave without sharing this beautiful home with you first! Located in an iconic turn-of-the-century wooden house in Haga, Gothenburg, the light-filled living space is blessed with towering stucco ceilings, 'mirror' doors, and original wood floors. Look closely and there are also subtle colours and textures at play. Soft grey walls contrast with fresh white ceilings. Jute and linen rugs add muted, rich tones and wood furniture helps to add texture and warmth. Look out for greenery at every turn, from climbing plants and a small tree to the most fabulous botanical wallpaper. What a treat!

Four potted ivy plants have been trained to climb the window (see more 'climber' inspiration here!) and lilac from the garden makes a perfect, lightly scented centre-piece. 

The living room is made up of a blend of furniture from antique and rustic to mid-century and contemporary pieces, giving it a personal and relaxed vibe.

Remember this other Haga apartment in a secret courtyard I shared a few months back? I'm still dreaming about it, are you?! 

Right, *slaps lap with both hands* I'd better get packing. I'm soooo excited. If all goes well, this time tomorrow I'll be hiking the Hardanger fjord fruit trail which inspired the fragrance behind the Skandinavisk Fjord collection. The lovely green / grey home of a Swedish stylist

You may think I'm going 'Tant Johanna' crazy at the moment - in the past two weeks I've featured two spaces she's styled (here and here) and on Friday linked to her past homes (here and here). And then today I discovered she's moving again and her home is online. How could I not share it with yours truly? It's such a lovely space. The apartment is located in the heart of Gothenburg and yet has a slight country vibe thanks to the pretty floral wallpapar, vintage / antique furniture and linen curtain used to hide outdoor gear in the hallway. I love the green / grey hues throughout too. What a perfect home to start the week, don't you think?!

Gothenburg anyone?!

I particularly love the corner of her bedroom. The beautiful paint colour Johanna's used in the bedroom has been a huge talking point across Swedish blogs and even in magazines. The code is: S 3005-G20Y.  I love the Bestlite BL7 wall lamp and the antique side table which has been upcycled using grey marble (potential DIY project?). The Linen Works sell beautifully soft charcoal linen bedding.

For small, relaxed touches I like the string of fairy lights around the door frame and the macrame wall hanging in the sitting room which add a boho vibe.

How was your weekend? I'm reeling from a wonderful couple of days at The Hive in Berlin (such a great conference and city!). Thank you to all the enthusiastic, smiling faces in the audience - you made it a real pleasure!

Ylva's Lovely Swedish Family Apartment with Blue and Yellow Accents

Final stop for the week: this beautiful family apartment by the harbour in Gröndal, Stockholm - a perfect oasis for Ylva, her husband and their two children Maj and August. 

The pad itself is quite the find. Not only does it occupy a corner in a building dating back to 1913 - meaning light from two sides, it also boasts not one, not two, but three beautiful kakelugn (tiles masonry ovens). While bones are important, what you do with it and how it works for you as a family is crucial, and Ylva's home is full of lovely corners and inspiring details. Let's delve a little deeper. 

The dining area in the kitchen might not be big, but it certainly looks cosy thanks to built in seating and plenty of natural light. 

The cosy sitting room is arranged in a sociable way, with two sofas facing one another and cushions, blankets and a fluffy rug for maximum comfort! Notice the pale yellow and light blue tones which act as a the red thread (refer to my previous post for more info!) throughout the apartment. 

A simple wooden IKEA stool can be painted in whatever colour you like and is a great way to add in an extra touch of your chosen accent colour. 

The rug from Nordic knots is a nice twist on the usual Jute mat. I have this exact blue Flowerpot lamp by &Tradition in my home too! The bench table is from IKEA. 

Baskets are a popular storage choice in Ylva's home - used above to store firewood. I love the addition of the little children's chairs in the sitting room - a sign that are all are welcome and catered for. Keep an eye out for my post soon featuring a wonderful danish design classic which is now available in a children's size. Can you guess which one it is? 

A classic Swedish bumling light in brass can be seen over the dining table and mix and matched chairs create an informal, relaxed touch to the space. 

Bedding is a fantastic way to quickly update a room (look closely and you'll notice two single duvets instead of one double as is customary in a Swedish home - and something I've expanded on in my book: Lagom*). Here, a yellow duvet cover matches the art work over the bed - and ties the room in with the rest of the flat. 

The children's bedrooms are the exact mirror reflection of each other. 

Yellow curtains offer a cheerful, sunny feel even when the sky is grey, and an array of baskets make the ideal storage for bears and other bits and bobs (this type of storage is particularly good as children can just chuck things in - which makes tidying up quick and easy). 

The yellow and blue theme is carried through to the bathroom in the form of paint work and art, while the maroon chequered floor is a wonderful nod to the age of the building. If you look back through the pictures, you'll notice this hue in other rooms too, albeit in very subtle ways. 

All in all, a truly lovely, well thought out home, do you agree? I'd love to hear your thoughts and what you have observed, always so interesting!

A pretty Gothenburg apartment with a fab work space

Hello Tuesday! It's a beautiful morning here in Southern Sweden. The sun's shining, the sky's blue. Spring's finally arrived and it's time for morning coffees in the garden- yay! This Gothenburg apartment is so Scandinavian fresh with it's white walls, light wood walls, muted tones and natural textures. I'm inspired!

Such a beautiful space don't you think?!

The work space is truly wonderful and not that difficult to achieve. You can get the look using String system shelves, a bright coloured cardboard basket or boxes for stationary, an industrial-style frame fitted with cool Moroccan style tiles (love, love, love these!), a chrome desk lamp and basket for paperwork.

The other thing I like about this apartment is my breakfast's already laid out waiting for me.....boiled egg anyone?!
