Lighting up time- inspiration from a lovely Swedish home

Hello! It's soooo grey here this morning, I don't think it's ever going to get light. I've lit a few candles for cosiness. In Scandinavia candles are common in the mornings (they even place them on the breakfast table at my daughter's nursery - so lovely!). How about where you are? While feeling my way around in the dark (almost!) it's also got me thinking about lighting in my home - and how much we're missing! Experts say you should have a whole host of different types of lighting in a space for maximum affect including ambient, task, accent and natural (see this guide). This Swedish home has a great mix of wall, floor, table, string and industrial lights. They even have an oil lamp! Perfect inspiration for anyone like me, who needs to brighten up your home this season!

Entrance

Lovely home! I love the view over the canal as you come out of the front entrance too, not a bad way to start the day?

Lights I know and love: Flowerpot table lamp, the Bellevue floor lamp is similar. Black string lights. This brass wall light is similar to the one in the sitting room. I also love this industrial brass scissor lamp and for a splurge - the Serge Mouille two arm wall light is my favourite (one day huh...?!). This pair of green industrial pendants are similar to the one over the kitchen table. And finally, an incredibly talented friend of mine (and mum of one of the little boys in my daughter's class) has just designed the Little darling table lamp - seen all over the blogosphere right now, it'll definitely be one of the big lights of 2016 - watch this space!

More fab spaces to brighten up your Tuesday include this Finnish house made from containers (you won't believe it!) and a serene Norwegian home overlooking a fjord.

Have a lovely day!

The stunning Bavarian home of a photographer

You know when homes have a friend's name written all over them? This incredible space found over at Vosges Paris  was made for my sister, Cas! She loves vintage pieces (cinema seats, step ladders, tables), art photography and industrial lighting.  But the home of German photographer Petra Reger and her family in Kompton, Bavaria is oh so much more too. Petra's home decorating style is part industrial, part vintage, part designer, part rock 'n' roll. Throw in the beautiful bones of the apartment including the original plaster wall in the kitchen and 100 year old parquet flooring and the result is an incredibly striking and unique home fit for a creative. How cool is this space?

Shared with kind permission from Homeowner / Photographer Petra Reger. Inspired by Vosges Paris with thanks.

I'm such a big fan of the graphical monochrome look, it's just so striking.

Is this your kind of style?

A few items I know and love: Designer chairs: Panton, LCW, Knoll Diamond and Series 7 . Choose your own neon light letters here.  Try Etsy for industrial scissor lamps (that's where I found mine), keep an eye on ebay for cinema chairs. An Apple monitor in Petra's workspace. To get the sitting room look try the Zanotta three seater sofa, the Tulip side table is similar and Zettel Z 6 pendant light. Anything I've missed?

Other fab monochrome spaces with a vintage touch here, here and here. Or if you like a touch of colour, did you see yesterday's post?

Time to pack for Dalarna (I'll still be posting!). Before I shoot off, a quick reminder to stop by this weekend to enter the give-away intended to light up your St Valentine's Day. Oooo, intriguing?!

Have a wonderful weekend!

PS Speaking of my sister, I sent her some uber cosy Swedish fleece tights and they haven't arrived - did Mr Postman accidentally put them through your (London) door?! #mysistersgettingcold!

Shopping for vintage - industrial

Wonderful vintage-industrial home furniture is not always easy to find. But I looooove Etsy and always find beautiful things on there. My favourite Etsy shop of the day is Rough South Home. Here's my pick...

Industrial lights

Steel splashback
I particularly like their steel steel splash back - which you could use to create a similar feel to the lovely kitchen in this picture below from the Varberg home I posted a few weeks ago.

An artist's home in a former factory

Iiiiit's Friday - yaaaay! It's been a very relaxed-bohomian week here on My Scandinavian Home with so many exciting homes full of personality - I hope you've felt inspired? To round up the feel of the week I thought we'd head to Melbourne, Australia and the home of artist Saskia Folk in a converted factory. Think industrial with a relaxed vibe and the odd splash of colour. The perfect home to complete the week!

Photographer: Derek Swalwell shared with kind permission. Stylist: Heather Nette King , found via House of C with thanks.

How I'd love to have a home in a converted factory like this - high ceilings, exposed bricks painted white, graciously worn wood floor, industrial pendant lights...that freestanding bath?!

Get the look: similar vintage industrial-style pendant lights here,  Source beautiful Boucherouite rugs here.

Also love these factory conversion homes here, here and here.

If you feel like dropping it all and moving to the Swedish countryside - this stunning mansion has just come on the market - oh the things you could do?! Or perhaps go one step further like this young Norwegian guy who quit his job to go hiking across Norway with his husky - beautifully captured here on Instagram.

Back tomorrow with a very exciting give-away set to brighten up your weekend (there's a clue in there...).  Oooo, what could it be?!

Hope you have a wonderful Friday! See you tomorrow...

PS I've had a few questions about the beautiful colours in yesterday's home and have since updated the post with some paint colours which are a good match.

An industrial inspired Swedish home + competition winner

I love a vintage-industrial touch to a home, it's one of my favourite looks. Especially in a Scandivian backdrop (of course!). That's why I was particularly excited to come across this Swedish home over on House of C (great blog by the way), photographed by Jonas Gustavsson. The home is located in the countryside just outside Stockholm and belongs to Marie - owner of cute children's shop The Tiny Universe, her husband and daughter. The family have worked to preserve the heritage of the early 20th century and make their own mark on it. I love the pastel touches and grey floor.  I think they've found the perfect balance, don't you?

Elle Decoration. Photographer: Jonas Gustavsson (shared with kind permission). Stylist: Charlotte Frey Svidén.

They've certainly gone all out with the subway tiles - and the kitchen and bathroom are fab as a result.

Get the look: source similar vintage school chairs here, sofa, floor lamp, buy a similar chest to use as a coffee table here. Love this industrial printers swivel chair. Grey linen bed set.

I realised yesterday that I have now amassed an archive of over 250 Swedish homes - crazy! If you fancy putting your feet up, you can enjoy the homes here (this home might come up first, if it does just scroll passed).

I was up super late last night researching where to go for a February adventure - (to escape the Swedish winter for a few weeks - brrrrrrr!). We're thinking about Kerala and Sri Lanka? Have you been to either of these places? If so we'd really welcome any tips! Are you planning anything exciting this autumn / winter?

Thanks so much for entering the give-away to win a leaf table lamp from Houseology...the winner has now been announced HERE!

Have a lovely day!

An awe-inspiring factory conversion

Good news! It's Friday! I hope you've totally rocked the working week or simply powered through everything you had to do - in which case you totally deserve one of these  - skål! Since I'm on a bit of an industrial-style role (with a feature of this fabulous converted warehouse and a review of Sara Emslie's book Urban Pioneer in the last two days alone), I thought I'd complete the week with one final industrial space.  Elze, behind beautiful blog Everything Elze, captured this magnificent home in a former Philips factory in Eindhoven just before the owner Lieke moved out. Simple cognac, wood and black furnishings allow the original features of the building including the vast windows and high, concrete ceiling to take centre-stage, while natural textures and plants bring the living space to life.
What an incredible place to live, don't you think?!

Photography: Elze / Everything Elze

Could you imagine having the space to have not one but three massive industrial pendants over the dining table?!(They remind me a lot of the ones from my favourite Copenhagen restaurant - Höst which I featured here). Any tips on where to find lamps like these? By the way, I was so pleased to get your tips on the armchair in this post - thank you!

Get the look from Lieke's home: source vintage school chairs here. I love this cognac leather sofa. cross blanket. This lovely jump suit is similar as is this leather satchel.

You can see the full tour here and keep up to date with Lieke's latest projects on instagram here. And if you fancy it, there are plenty of converted factories to drool over here (this artist's home is one of my favourites - isn't it amazing?! Love the "Nobody panic, I know origami and pilates" bag!).

It's been a while since I shared a little link love, and there's so much wonderful inspiration out there right now I think it's about time, don't you?!

A cheerful Swedish designer's home.

Love this post by Danielle Witte - that side table!

A romantic, rustic touch in the bathroom.

This Swedish country-style home tour.

A tiny house.

5 interior instagrams to follow - you might just recognise one of them ;)

Feel free to share your tips in the comment section below!

Have a great weekend!

Modern industrial style rebuilt farm house

'Monday Monday, so good to me, Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be..........'Actually in this instance the Mamas and Papas were right. Today is a very good day. The sun's shining, there's a light breeze, I'm wearing bright cherry red trousers with a very nautical top. And I've an industrial-modern style re-built farmhouse to share with you. It seems farm buildings are the home du jour what with the beautiful Finnish style barn I featured last week. This time it's Belk Farm, a rebuilt farmhouse by a lake in Chester, South Carolina. I love the industrial modern look with a hint of rustic. Very cool.

Garden and Gun Via A Life's Design
What do you reckon? Any favourite room / feature? Personally I love the bathroom with the great cow prints. Spot any more cows anywhere (cream bun time)?!

I also love the chairs all lined up along the veranda ready for someone to sit and admire the view across the lake. Infact I must add this to my 'perfect patio' Pinterest board....then all I need is a lake. Umm.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!
