Perfect Harmony in a Serene Swedish Home

While the Danish home I featured on Monday was full of playful touches and bold choices (those pink stairs!), today's home is the epitome of calm. In fact, the very reason I chose to share this early 20th century Gothenburg apartment is because I'm tired of the white walls in my home and looking for a new colour scheme - something soothing and light yet with a subtle warmth. For me, it's the combination of light nuances of grey / beige (AKA greige) in combination with the natural wood which creates such a beautiful, timeless style and sense of harmony - something the Swedes do so well! I'll be pinning many of these shots to my Pinterest today. I hope you find this lovely apartment inspiring too! 

If only I had space to store all my shoes like this at home - loving the floor to ceiling shelves by Elfa (I'm still thrilled with my wardrobe and children's storage which I installed this spring!).

Black, white and cognac in a Swedish apartment

Good morning! How are you today? Here, the sun is shining and the sky is blue - which makes it very hard impossible to concentrate! As always Alvhem have styled this apartment to perfection with it's white walls and floors and monochrome with cognac colour theme, very lovely! Makes me want to rush home and start removating (with pots and pots of white paint!).

I have sooooo many ideas for my home and such little time but I think one of the first things I'll do is buy some shelves like the ones in the top picture for my little girls bedroom (I love the Muuto stacked shelving system in particular).

For black and white prints I'm all over this diamond poster set by Kathapult which I acquired over the weekend. What about you?

Clever use of a small space in Sweden

Many of us don't have the luxury of space so it's all about making every single square metre / foot (depending on where you're from!) work. Scandinavian's are known for being practical and you can see this in the way they make the space in their apartments work. This apartment in Gothenburg is 51 metres square, which is fairly small (I'm nervous about writing that as I've done so before and I've got myself in trouble from people saying...'hey, that's not small'! so let's just say fairly small for Gothenburg) but Alvhem have cleverly used every single nook work. And it looks great!

One fine example of doubling up on space is the IKEA shoe storage unit by the door which also works as a shelf to place keys, a plant etc. I've got my eye on this for my own home.

I am also a big fan of exposed brickwork - whether it's left in it's original form or painted white. I love the texture!

Dreaming of a Historic Home: A Charming 19th-Century Cottage in Sweden

I live in a modern townhouse in Malmö, Sweden, built in 2001. It’s bright, practical, and has lovely high ceilings. But what it lacks are the charming architectural details of a bygone era—those diamond-shaped windows and wooden beams that once came as standard. Do you own a home like this? 

People often say that living in an old house requires a deep passion for maintenance. But that doesn’t deter me from dreaming about owning a beautiful historical home—one that carries the echoes of the past in its walls (although Per may beg to differ!). Needless to say, I can’t resist keeping an eye on the real estate market (some might say I'm obsessed). And today, I stumbled across an absolute gem: a late 19th-century cottage that instantly stole my heart.

Described by Alvhem as having "an enchanting soul and a fantastic story to tell," this cottage in Sävedalen, Sweden has been in the same family for generations. Now, it's ready for a new custodian. There’s something wonderfully timeless about its interior—think a traditional-style kitchen, elegant wainscoting, and floral-themed wallpaper. But it’s the little details, like the well-worn radio, locally made pottery and vintage tins in the kitchen, that make it feel so beautifully lived-in.

And let’s not forget the sauna at the end of the garden—an absolute dream!

Oh, how I’d love to call a home like this my own one day and add my personal touch. Until then, take the tour and let's dream!

These pictures feel so summery, don't you think? I love the way the garden door is thrown open to the garden, which in turn has a meadow-like feel. Lovely!
