Michiel's Harmonious Dutch Home in Natural Hues

Good morning friends! Stopping by here on this bright and sunny Monday morning in Malmö with the beautiful home of Michiel Bosman. A photographer, stylist and teacher, Michiel has been busy renovating his house in the small town of Bodegraven between Amsterdam and Rotterdam in The Netherlands. The canvas is in place with a calming combination of natural wood, stone and soft earthy hues, and now he has begun to layer it with a perfect blend old and new (with a particular penchant for Scandinavian design - which of course, I love!). Here are a few snapshots from his harmonious home.

The wooden kitchen cabinets are from the Norwegian family run business Ask og Eng, the marble top is from De Keukenbladenfabriek and the taps are by deVOL. Wooden shelves are laden with artisan objects by ceramicists such as Robynn Storgaard and Poppy Lawman

This popular lamp is popping up in many beautiful homes right now - it's by Valerie Objects

Spotted: pendant lamp from Louis Poulsen*, SK2 chairs from &tradition, Vent stool by Skagerak

The bedroom is one of Michiel's latest projects, the walls have been painted in 'clay mid' from Little Greene. Next step - art!

Such a beautiful home. To me, it looks like the perfect canvas, backdrop from which to build upon over time and layer with personal objects, art and everyday items.

If you love this home as much as I do and have the time today, hop over to Michiel's instagram feed @michieljbosman to see more snapshots and follow his renovation. One of Michel's latest posts really resonated with me in particular, and it's heartwarming to see he has updated the link in his bio to re-direct to a Dutch charity seeking to help those in need.

Would you like to see a few other Dutch homes this morning? Here are a few I love:

Stor kram (big hug) to you all at the start of the week.

A Thoughtfully Curated Dutch Family Home

Well, I do believe we've made it guys: it's Friday! And the sun is shining. Hurraaaa! I hope you've got some fun plans for the weekend? But please don't go quite yet as I have the prettiest house to share with you ! This gem of a family home in Tilburg city, North Brabant, The Netherlands belongs to Ilona Polycen (also known as @mamoesjka_nl), her partner Daniel and two sons Tycho (13) and Fender (7). The thoughtfully decorated interior is characterised by subtle shades of pastel, soft light  wood, one-off pieces and vintage touches. I caught up with Ilona to find out more.

How would you describe your interior style?
I like a fresh white canvas decorated with vintage, design or handmade items, mostly in fresh or soft pastel colours. I’d much rather have one item that I really love rather than five things I just like. I don’t shop on impulse. I will always take my time before I buy something for my home.

Do you have  a favourite spot?
You’ll often find me sitting on my pink home-made bench. It’s my favourite spot in the house, where I write, scroll through Instagram and sit with family and friends. From my bench, I also have a clear view of the rest of the living room and the open-plan kitchen.

Do you update your home often?!
I love to use my home as my test lab. If I haven’t painted anything for a few weeks, the paint tins literally call out to me from the closet.

Where do you shop?
I like to search the internet for new treasures. I look for both new and second-hand items and design pieces as well as less expensive finds. For me, it’s very important that they’re not things that everybody likes and buys. I want stuff that is unique and is available on a small scale. For that reason, I always search for small websites or designers that sell their own work. It’s so much more fun to make a small independent enterprise happy by purchasing some of their products than to buy something from a big retail chain.

Do you have a favourite piece?
My favourite piece of furniture is the vintage cupboard that my partner and I bought at a thrift store. I really loved it when I first saw it, but we both thought it was far too expensive (the cupboard was not in the best condition) and we left the shop without buying it. But soon I had second thoughts and we quickly went back again and bought it. We gave the little cupboard some love with oil and wood paste and I now think he’ll stay forever!

What's your best home decorating tip?
I like to do things my own way. I think that’s my best tip I can give anyone. Make the choices yourself. Fill your home with items you really love and that make you happy. These days you can find inspiration everywhere. I like to scroll through Instagram and see all kinds of interiors, but I have to stay true to myself. Something I’ve learned over the years is to choose what makes you happy and don’t do what everyone else is already doing.

Thank you so much for inviting us into your home this sunny Friday, Ilona!

If you don't already follow Ilona on instagram it's a must!

And for more beautiful Dutch home inspiration take a peek at a lovely light-filled house boat, the happy home of Marij Hessel, and a charming and relaxed Dutch home.

Have a fabulous weekend all and see you Monday!

A Dutch home in a former children's nursery

One of the best things about arriving home after holidays is feeling inspired to make changes to the home (at least I do, how about you?!). Today I feel inspired by this Dutch home photographed by Jansje Klazinga for VT Wonen (shared with kind permission). The space is in a converted children's nursery and the family have made maximum use of every detail, cleverly using the wood beams in the eaves as shelving for an office space. As with all the Dutch homes I show on here, I absolutely love the white with the pops of colour, especially in the dining room.

For more pics of this home take a peek here.

I love the different colour chairs around the dining table - the light grey and dark grey ones (this Autumn's colour) which are broken off by a zesty yellow one. Very cool and easily done with a lick of paint. Anything that stands out to you?

The use of wood reminds me a little of another fabulous Dutch home I once showed here.

Thank you so much to Jansje for the kind permission to share these images. I had the pleasure of meeting Jansje a few months back when she photographed my home (images currently for sale).

I hope you have a lovely Wednesday!

The fabulous black and white home of Dutch blogger

Following the success of yesterday's 'blogger home tour' post I thought I'd show the fabulous home of another blogger today. I've actually shown parts of Desiree's (of Vosges Paris fame) Dutch home before here. But recently Holly Marder has been in to take pictures from another angle for SOFFA magazine . And what fabulous shots they are! Here's a selection from Desiree's oh so cool black and white kitchen, sitting room and bedroom. Enjoy!

Thank you to Holly and Desiree for the kind permission to share. You can read more about the home here.

I had the pleasure of meeting Holly a few months back when she came to style my home for a shoot (photos available for purchase here). She's such a talented stylist and photographer!

Could you do black and white throughout your home? I like to use it as a base for all my decorating.

Have a lovely day!

A bright and cheerful Dutch family home

Oh do I have a refreshingly bright, cheerful family home to share with you today. Located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Lenneke and Joey's charming townhouse is like a little ray of sunshine (much needed on a grey morning in Southerm Sweden I must say!). The pair decorated the home from scratch using several bucket loads of white paint, cheerful second hand pieces and a lorry load of love and patience. The result is a lovely, warm home with a unique signature style.

Such a lovely space don't you think? I always think The Dutch have a wonderful knack for injecting colour into a home, and this family has proved it once again!

Items in Lenneke and Joey's home I know and love: Dining - Eames chairs, gold / kilim cushions, Tripp Trapp children's chair. Sitting room - Beni ourain rug, this beautiful black vintage scissor lamp is similar, pick up a vintage industrial stool here. Hallway - rustic bench, panama hat, Swedish Kånken rucksack, little yellow and white children's boots. Bedroom - pink linen bedding, lovely throw with pom poms (also seen in this fab bedroom).

You can see more pics of this charming home over at VT Wonen here.

Jansje came to photograph my home a few years ago and it was such a fun, memorable day! Here are some more homes she's captured and I've featured: Valentina Fussell's lovely Copenhagen home, a Dutch home in a former kindergaten, and a home in The Netherlands with red floors (you'll be pleasantly surprised!).

A few other links I love today:

Five ways to add character to a kids room.

Sitting room storage by String (and a new way to add plants to the home).

How to make drawer pulls from just about anything (our bathroom cabinet hasn't had door handles for several months now - looks like some craft DIY is in order!).

And finally - black bedding? Why not! (This set is on sale.... just saying!).

How to get Scandi-style for your interior by Amara (including a quote from yours truly....:).

Have a wonderful day!

PS Thank you so much to My Warehouse Home for a great review of my book (I'm going to have to pick-up your latest edition, it looks fab!).

The happy home of Marij Hessel volume II

The Dutch home of My Attic blogger Marij Hessel was one of the most popular posts of 2014, and for good reason! I was therefore soooo excited to discover the Dutch designer has taken some new shots of her delightful home (and I also found some oldies which haven't been showed here before too). Her white walled and floored home acts as a blank canvas for pretty pastel cushions a mix of scandinavian modern and mid-century finds and bold prints. Marij - we love your style!

Photographs / styling / homeowner: Marij Hessel, My Attic shared with kind permission.

The Dutch really do know how to add colour don't they? And this is the year for it, as we starting to see bold colours enter the home in a big way.

A few items from Marij's home I love:  The black and white diamond rug is from Urban Outfitters (who incidentally have the most fab textiles right now, I've just ordered this rug and cushion for my home). Find similar mid-century bureaus on LiveAuctioneers.  Artek 66 chairs in the dining area.

The boho trend has already brought us pom pom blankets and Macrame wall hangings. And now hanging plant holders are sneaking into the picture too, I'm loving these chevron  and macrame ones.

More Dutch home inspiration here (for fab neon paint) and here (for pretty pastels) - and if you fancy visiting Holland this spring / summer I love this delightful city house and this idyllic cabin for rent.

Have a lovely day!
