A Light and Airy Danish Summer Cottage Oasis

Swedes are still recovering from a magical Midsummer weekend of sunshine, floral crowns and revelry! I had an apartment lined up to show you today, but since the mercury is set to hit 30 c (86 f) in Scandinavia today, I thought a summer cottage by the sea might be more apt! This classic black and white cabin in Tisvilde on Denmark's North Zealand coast, is owned by interior stylist and furniture manufacturer Ophilia Thalund. Ophilia has created an airy, light filled interior in soft shades of white, blue, grey and brown. The sparsely decorated space features items collected over time including flea market finds as well as pieces collected on travels - resulting in a personal oasis in which to relax on balmy summer days!

A classic 'trasmatta' rag rug* - a mat made from scraps of clothing and other leftover textiles - helps to protect the floor in the kitchen.

In Scandinavian cabins, natural materials and simplicity rules the day!

A simple white butterfly chair can be easily transported outside when the sun shines!

A wood bench doubles up as a side table for coffee table books and an antique bottle has been repurposed into a cool lamp!

Ophilia often sits at this antique desk when she's working up at the cabin.

This rustic wood stool* is similar.

Wood panel walls and soft grey-blue shades help to connect the cabin to its coastal location.

Lovely! I can imagine on a day like today all the windows and doors are thrown open and everyone is flitting between the sea and the garden - occasionally popping inside to collect a drink or slice of watermelon. Just like us!

Take a look at more dreamy Scandinavian summer cottages today.

Speaking of summer - the school holidays are in full swing and I will be dialling down to my summer blogging schedule (posting on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays) in order to spend time with my girls - and try to keep the chaos at home at bay (cue: a trail of destruction including coils of wet towels, a rapidly diminishing pantry and a crazy number of glasses in use at any one moment - does anyone else recognise this?). Even so,  it's my absolute favourite time of the year! I hope you are able to take a little downtime and relax too.

If you're thinking about visiting Stockholm this summer - why not stay in the beautiful archipelagos so you can combine the sea and calm surroundings with the city? Here's a 20% code off for you if you stay at hotel VÃ¥r GÃ¥rds Saltsjöbaden for three nights or more between 1st - 31st July 2022: NIKISUMMER. I loved it so much last winter I'm taking my whole family there this July!

See you Wednesday!

A Calm and Earthy Danish Home with a Warm, Golden Touch

Tjena! How are you today? I'm a little bleary eyed from my work trip to Norway - it was only three days, but it felt like a week, I've been left with so many amazing impressions and my heart is full from all the lovely, smiley, friendly people I met. I've shared a few stories in my instagram highlights if you'd like to see more. ANYHOOO, on with today's tour! Kamilla Heick is a designer, visual merchandiser and a mother living in a house from the 1930s in Denmark. The lovely family home has been decorated in serene, earthy tones. Sheer curtains slip in soft, filtered light into the rooms, casting a warm glow on the mix of iconic Danish design and antiques.

Look closely and you'll also notice 'curated groups' of items. This is a clever styling trickled in many Scandinavian home and involves grouping items in a display like way and then leaving an empty space before the next group of items. This helps to give a room an airy, pared back vibe, while still creating interest with items you love. Ready to take a peek?

Lovely home!

I'm sure many of you appreciated the messier touch in the sitting room! Real life happening right there. Honestly, you should see the state of my home today having come back after three days away. Total chaos!

Dud you notice the shelving in the sitting room? It's the same as the Elfa storage system I installed in Allie's room. It looks lovely in Kamilla's home!

I also love the way curtains help to add softness and texture to the rooms - beautiful!

Is there anything that stood out to you?

You can see more of Kamilla's Danish home and learn about some of the details here

If you have a little time this morning, why not delve through the danish home archive - so inspiring!

Have a great start to the week!

A Danish Country Home with a Striking Kitchen And Relaxing Garden!

Hello friends. Today I'm taking you to North Jutland, Denmark and the charming home of Diana Aud.                         An interior stylist, designer, and a portrait and product photographer, Diana has many strings to her bow, and her creativity shines through in her magnificent kitchen with its mix of patterns, shapes, materials and contrasting tones. True to her Scandinavian heritage, Diana's country home also has a wonderful sense of calm owed in part to the decluttered feel of the space, but also thanks to the nature-themed palette which helps draw the surroundings inside. But there are also plenty of places to relax in the shade outdoors too. Ready to take a look at some of the rooms? Another Studio paid a visit and took these pictures.

Diana's lovely home has me dreaming of long summer days, how about you? My eyes on that hammock!

I particularly love the large cabinet in the kitchen which is home to Diana's ceramic collection. The emerald green is so striking.

You can see more of Diana Aud's lovely danish home over at @Diana.aud. And explore other Danish homes in this archive (one of my favourites!).

Kram!

The Idyllic Thatched Cottage and Garden of a Danish Artist

The work of Danish artist and freelance designer Ane Kirstine Bilde is inspired by flora and fauna - which makes her idyllic country home a perfect base. From the outside, the property on the coast of western Funen is every inch the quintessential country home, with its thatched roof and whitewashed stone walls. Inside, the relaxed vintage and antique furniture helps to accentuate the warm and inviting, yet calm and relaxed feel. look closely and you'll notice every corner of Ane's house is filled with pretty floral motifs and nature-inspired art. In spring, the house comes alive with spring touches from the garden - and life moves outside to the garden and a simple outhouse. Ready to take a look? Velkommen (as they say in Denmark)!

What a lovely life! I couldn't think of a more perfect home for an artist inspired by nature, can you?

The outhouse is so pretty. This style of sunroom / greenhouse has become increasingly popular in Scandinavia lately as somewhere to hang out when the weather is less than favourable - but still mild - and prolong the summer!

Funnily enough, it looks a little like the tiny cabin we have just built - except, of course ours is a contemporary version!

Could you imagine spending your summer here?

Have a great start to the week friends!
