Step Inside Höda’s Creative Swedish Farmhouse

Earlier this week, I had a delightful surprise: a note from Höda Vestregård arrived in my inbox, complete with a link to her beautiful home just outside Jönköping, Sweden.

Höda, along with her husband, two daughters, and their cat Tiger, represent the seventh generation to live on her family’s farm, having purchased the farmhouse from her grandparents. The property offers plenty of room for the family to spread out and for Höda to pursue her art—some of the larger paintings you see on the walls are her own. But the creativity doesn't stop there. 

"I am an artist with a very creative mind, and I’d rather build something myself than buy it," Höda shared. True to her words, much of the renovation has been done by hand. Höda and her husband built the kitchen themselves, with help from Höda’s father. Just last weekend, she took on the bedroom, adding paneling and using fabric in place of wallpaper.

Throughout the home, there are inviting spots for writing, playing music, and collaborating, reflecting the family’s creative spirit. These spaces are brought to life with unique vintage finds, clever use of wallpaper, and personal, beautiful details that make each corner feel inspiring.

Step Inside the Cosy World of The Collector's House

Is there a public holiday coming up for you? We usually head to England for school half term but alas, that won't be the case this October, so I am cheering myself up with a virtual visit in the form of the extremely cosy The Collector's House - which is quintessentially English in every way!

Looking through the gallery, I can practically smell the tea brewing and hear the roar of the fire after a walk in the countryside. Maybe the moment would be accompanied by a slice of toast slathered in butter and jam. Or perhaps the fire is not enough to truly thaw out and I'd climb the rickety stairs for a soak in the claw foot tub. There's also that wonderful nook to snuggle up in - a perfect perch from which to look out at the rain lashing on the window or read a book. Oh, how I love England in Autumn! 

Come and take the tour with me and let's get nostalgic together - there's plenty to feel inspired by! Keep an eye out for the most beautiful vintage finds, rustic sidetables, ceramics and plenty of cosy touches. 

Can we also talk about that outdoor space? A covered area is so important to be able to make the most of a warmish day even in the rain - and this cosy little spot is a perfect gathering place with friends, don't you think?

I saw something similar on Instagram the other day and all the Aussies were like 'no thanks, I see spiders' - but in England the spiders are harmless so it's just to invite them to the party! 

Overall, such a charming cottage - I could totally see myself here and must book it for one of our trips home (it's available to rent through Sand & Stone Escapes - how exciting is that?). In the meantime, I'll be scouring antique sites and flea markets for itemswith which to fill my own home with.

Amanda's Charming Vintage-Inspired Swedish Country Home

Tjena! Today we're heading to the Swedish countryside to dream of a simple life. One which involves a beautiful country home, a separate ceramics workshop and even an antique and homeware shop with a cafe selling delicious cinnamon buns and fresh coffee. 

Välkommen to the home of Amanda Forster who lives in the countryside near Jönköping with her family and their delightful dog. Amanda shares her passion for decorating, flea market finds and ceramics while surrounded by sheep, hens and a beautiful garden on her instagram feed @ladanskuriosa. What vintage finds Amanda doesn't choose to keep for her own home, she sells in her beautiful boutique Ladans Kuriosa (the curiosity barn) - somewhere I am now very keen to visit the next time I pass by. 

I hope you enjoy the tour of this charming home which is filled with beautiful items, cosy layers of textiles and pretty wallpaper. maybe it will have you dreaming of a new life in the Swedish countryside!

A Charming Swedish Home in a Windmill

The Southern Sweden county of Skåne where I live is known for its flat land and steady wind - which is why you'll spot so many windmills! Although the majority are no longer in working order, some have been transformed into year-round dwellings - like this one!

Nestled in the countryside near Höganäs (see my travel guide here), this beautiful four-storey windmill is currently for sale - and when you see inside you might just be joining the queue to be the next owner! The windmill has been lovingly restored to ensure many of the original features are still intact, while the furnishings have been artfully placed around the angled walls to create a cosy home.

So lovely! It would be so fun to be able to invite people over and welcome them inside your very own windmill, don't you think?

PS Per and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary tomorrow - it's crazy how quickly the time has passed. I understand that it's our 'crystal' anniversary. Any ideas for a fun present (yes, left it a little late....). Our neighbour's cat is called Crystal, but I have a feeling that might not work for many reasons.
