Bedroom Details: One bench, Two Different ways

Sponsored by Skovby, all words and photos are my own and I only ever work with brands I love

Do you find that you only know something was missing until you add it - often by accident? I was asked by Danish brand Skovby to photograph the beautiful #833 Bench. I was originally considering placing it by the kitchen table, or in the hallway - but following my bedroom make-over last week, I realised where it really belongs is at the foot of my bed! If you have the space for one, benches are ideal as they can be used for so many different things - a place to sit and get dressed in the morning, somewhere to enjoy a cup of coffee (it makes a great midpoint between languishing in bed and entering the world!) - or a perfect place to store books and other treasures. Here's this beauty of a bench, styled two different ways:

1. The dressing bench
Why hop about the room trying to put on socks when you can chill on a bench in style! Place a little basket underneath for slippers or chunky knit socks and blankets. If you feel the chill in the night, you can reach down and grab it, without even rustling the covers!

Any bench will do, as long as it's the right length. But I have to say, the Skovby #833 Bench is absolutely beautiful - and ideal. It's crafted from solid wood and 170 cm long making it a perfect three-seater and an ideal length for a180 cm wide bed (it's little sister, the #832 bench is 120 cm is suitable for narrower ones).

If you prefer a darker look, it's also available in oak oil and black oak versions - all with the lovely brass detail.

2. The storage bench:
The long surface makes this bench an ideal place for books and other items - a little like a mini library at the foot of your bed!  For this styling we also added a vase with lilac from the garden - but I am the first to admit it's not entirely practical as Per pointed out (while removing countless cushions before settling in for the night!!). I was merely exercising a little artistic license, and it does look pretty, right?

Not only does solid wood have a beautiful patina, it can also last a lifetime when handled with care. Soap and vegetable oils can help to impregnate, nourish and maintain the wood so it stays beautiful.

Needless to say, I'm keeping this bench right where it is!

Which look / use do you prefer ? Could you imagine having a bench at the end of your bed? Or perhaps you already do!

If you're feeling inspired, hop over to Skovby to find your nearest store

Have a fabulous, relaxing weekend - see you Monday!

Showtime: Come and Join Me At Formland!

Paid partnership:
Why, hello there! Not sure if I've shared a glimpse of my new studio here in Malmö - I moved in at the end of last year and I can't tell you how much I love being here each day. The new year has started with a bang. January means one thing in the design world: showtime! And this year I'll be attending Formland for the first time. Have you heard of Formland? It's one of the Nordic's most important annual interior & design shows and takes place in Herning, Denmark from 30th January to 2nd February 2020.

I'm excited to be taking to the stage on Friday 31st at 13.00 to participate in an 'International Trends' panel with Holly Becker and Trend Stefan. If you have the time, pop along, it's always great to see a friendly face in the crowd! As my first ever visit to the fair, I'm looking forward to checking out the trend zone The Art Of Living, the various stands (it promises to be a real Scandi design love fest with visitors from all over the world!) and listen to the international talks on the Speak Up Stage (I'm particularly curious about Jill Hawkin's talk on 'How do we sell to people who don't want to buy' - see the full schedule here). Sound exciting? Here's a sneak peek from last year:

Looks and sounds exciting, don't you think?!

Find out more about Formland, see this year's schedule and book your tickets here.

Please note that Formland is a closed fair for the design and interior industry and reserved for professionals with registered companies. Students can access the fair on Friday.

Hopefully see you there!

My Scandinavian Home Studio Online Interior Design Service Now Live!! + A Tour of The Studio in a Converted Factory

I've pushed myself out of my comfort zone many times with my business over recent years (cue: heart thumping and eyes wide open while the rest of the house enjoys a peaceful slumber! - do you recognise the feeling?). But nothing prepared me for the amount of effort it would take to set-up a My Scandinavian Home online interior design service!! The reason was that I was really keen for it to offer just the right type of help you might need with your home - whether that's re-arranging the furniture you already have, creating a beautiful room from scratch that tells your story or simply adding that Scandinavian touch.

And today, the My Scandinavian Home Studio affordable online interior design service is finally live!! PHEW! And YAY! And everything in between!

You can find out more about the service and get help from my wonderful (and I mean REALLY wonderful), passionate, creative, professional Scandinavian interior design team over at the new My Scandinavian Home Studio website.

In the meantime, I thought you might like to see a few pics from the interior design team headquarters in a converted spinnery factory just outside Gothenburg!

I wonder if anyone would notice if I moved my bed in?!

I hope this interior design service is going to be everything you hoped for and more! Please feel free to share the news with anyone you know who might find my new service helpful. And also I'm always open to thoughts and suggestions - so if you have any feedback or ideas just drop me a mail!

I am so looking forward to sharing your room transformations here on My Scandinavian Home and on Instagram!

FYI if you'd like to be one of the first to use the service, please do send me a mail and I'd be very happy to send you a big discount code (five available!).

Wishing you a very happy Friday - I think it's time to go and enjoy a glass of bubbles with a big 'skål' to all the team that made this happen - Emma, Sara, Tobias, Carl and Marcus (and my forever patient husband and children!).

I hope you have a wonderful weekend - see you on Monday (I've got a beautiful home tour to share with you).

Niki

PS Happy designing over at My Scandinavian Home Studio
