A Beautiful Farm Stay With a Pared-Back Rustic Vibe

I hope you had a lovely weekend? We enjoyed a magical midsummer at a friend's cottage in Båstad (pronounced B-or-stard - in case you were wondering!!). It had everything I featured in Thursdays 'midsommar round-up' - including the famous four seasons in one day (the Swedish weather gods treated us to 27 degrees celsius and sunshine, a hail storm and thunder and lightning) - a true Swedish midsummer! We're staying at our own cottage for a few days now - and will stay put in Sweden the entire summer- but it doesn't stop me from drooling over ideas for future holidays abroad! In case you're in the same boat, you might just want to archive this wonderful farm stay in Portugal. Surrounded by vast fields in the beautiful Alentejo region, Herdade Cucumbi is a guest house offering four bedrooms and three apartments with a pared-back, rustic interior and a lovely Scandinavia meets Portugal vibe. Oh, and you might just like to enjoy a book and aperitif by the pool too!

Something for 2021 perhaps? Perhaps I'll see you by the pool! Make mine a Ginjinha

You can read more about this wonderful hotel here

Curious about other travel destinations?

You'll find a ton of amazing design hotels in this archive and might also come across some pared- back, rustic holiday homes stays in here too!

While on the subject of holidays, one of the things that has struck me during the pandemic is how I've been inspired to adapt my home to feel more like a holiday home. I mean, why wait until we can travel (even cross country) - when we can bring a touch of sunshine to our own homes? I hope the rustic and natural touches in this hotel might inspire you to adapt your living space a little too!

A Dreamy Bed & Breakfast in Florence, Italy

A few summers ago, Per and I went to Florence, Italy for a long weekend. We searched high and low for somewhere beautiful to stay but never really came up trumps. I wish we'd known about this family run Bed & Breakfast. Dating back to the mid 19th century, Valdirose is located in the hills of Lastra a Signa, around 14 km from the centre of Florence. In 2007, Irene Berni completely revamped the family home and transformed into a dreamy B&B. Today, Valdirose promises to be a perfect stay for anyone who loves to surround themselves with antiques, family memories, soft colours and beautiful details. Let's take a peek inside...

I love how Valdirose is family-run in every sense:

"I cannot talk about my family, only describe the flavour: of brandy to my father who awaits the return of the guests....the pride of my husband with his shaky English, of freshly baked cake behind which hides my Mother, shy as a child, and finally wildflowers, my favourite, the daily gift I get from my daughter."

Valdirose has four double rooms or a family room with a double and single room connected. I particularly love the look of Orizzonti! Every room is different but still in keeping with the understated earthy look of the residence with its soothing cream, chestnut and cappuccino shades.

These sheer curtains are so pretty, I can imagine them billowing in the breeze.  You buy similar made to measure ones on Etsy here*. This curtain with a powder hue and ruffles* is also really pretty!

Isn't it beautiful?

I think a return trip to Florence might be in order. It's such a romantic city! Have been?

You can book your stay at Valdirose here

Could You Imagine Staying In This Dreamy Riad in Marrakech?

One day I'm excited about Autumn, the next I'm dreaming of an escape to warmer climes (yep, my mood is as fickle as the between-season Skåne weather!). But seriously, who could blame me with places like this waiting for us all? Riad 42 is nestled in the heart of the bustling Medina in Marrakech and has been lovingly restored by French-Belgian duo Sarah & Grégoire. The couple worked with the existing architecture and added a soothing neutral palette, handwoven textiles, a touch of that Moroccan style we all so love - and one very refreshing rooftop pool! Could you imagine recharging at this serene bed and breakfast?!

I love these cross taps but struggling to find them online - does anyone have any tips?

Simplicity which works beautifully thanks to the patina on the surfaces (both the wall and shower head / taps).

Lounge chairs like these have become increasingly popular and so easy to work with inane space. I stumbled across this woven leather one which is similar - and oh so beautiful!

Not a bad place to hang out after a day at the souks, right?!

So dreamy!

Can you imagine the sense of calm you'd feel just walking through the door?!

If Marrakech isn't on the horizon right now - there are still so many homes with a Moroccan touch to feel inspired by. Here are a few of my favourites:

I'm feeling a teeny bit excited. First the sun has come out for the first time in days (such a relief!) and secondly, I'm off to visit my new office in Malmö. I'll be sharing the space with two very fabulous, very creative ladies! Yay! We need to do a little work on the interior, but I hope I can share some pictures of it soon!

I hope you have a fab day!

An Incredible Hide-away In The Saguaro National Park

I've only been back at my desk two weeks and I'm already dreaming of getting away from it all. Are your summer (or winter for you Southern Hemisphere guys) holidays over too? If so, let's dream away together over a stay at this dreamy retreat in Arizona! Designed by über talented duo Sara and Rich combs of The Joshua Tree House fame, The Posada, is a 5 suite inn in Tucson, Arizona - opening this September. Book a stay and you'll be invited to reflect, reset and create in a relaxed living space decorated with furniture, rugs, art and accessories in shades inspired by the golden, earthy tones of the surrounding Saguaro National Park. And then there's the outdoor terrace too...

Art by Julia Kostreva, wooden table made by Sam Okerlund, sofa from six penny home

Despite the huge amount of effort that went into creating this beautiful space, it's the details, like this built in shelving and ceramics that Sara and Rich feel most proud and make the inn feel extra special.

This is could quite possibly be the most incredible shower / bath combination I've seen. Imagine cooling off from the 38-degree Celsius midsummer heat in this sunken bath? Heaven! I'm now wondering how I could Scandify this look for my own home. Hmmm

Read more about the bathroom renovation here

Tiles from Fireclay Tile, source great macramé plant hangers here*

I also have a serious crush on this wall mounted sink with a raw, handmade feel from Cast Concrete Basins, do you think you'd need to have a country home to get away with this, or could I install one in my townhouse?!

The Posada is situated on 38 acres of land and the terrace looks out over a forest of Saguaro cactus, native plants and passing wildlife. Quite a spot for an evening meal, don't you think?!

Outdoor string lights*

I'm already on that terrace sipping sangria. Fancy joining me?!

You can book a room at The Posada here

Sara and Rich also rent out a hacienda and casita in Joshua Tree which look like a pretty nice getaway too.

Can you tell I'm not ready for the colder weather to arrive in Sweden yet?!

Ha så fint!

Could You Be The Next Owner of This Delightful B&B in South of France?!

Ever dreamt of running a bed and breakfast? If so, this is a chance of a lifetime! Lovingly restored by New York designer Annie Moore, the interior and courtyard beautifully captures the spirit of the hill top town of Carcassonne in the South of France. And now, the 7 bedroom, magical Camellas Lloret Maison D'Hotes has been put on the market - could you be the next owner?!

Isn't it lovely?!

I'm already imagining myself with a cool glass of the local Vin de Pays d'Oc on the terrace!

You may recognise this lovely residence as I featured it once before here - but it's the type of place you can never see enough of, don't you think?!

For more details about purchasing this B&B contact Annie directly.

Take a peek in this archive for other holiday homes you'll want to check-in to and never leave!

Speaking of holiday homes, we're still on our floating one (sailing boat) in the Blekinge archipelago. I discovered the prettiest cafe by the sea on a walk this morning. I'm thinking I might just write a feature about this beautiful part of Sweden once I'm home - could this be of interest? If so, I hope the weather improves!
