I live in Helsinki in a smallish flat, and my dream is to have an allotment garden cottage here by the time I'm 50. 15 more years to save - they're not exactly cheap.
One more tip for your trip: if you have time and the weather allows, visit Cafe Regatta on Merikannontie 8 (https://www.facebook.com/Cafe-Regatta-official-125305227553336/). The cafe only has a couple of tables indoors, and usually you have to queue for a rather long time - but there's something essentially Finnish in that place!

Another tip, though someone surely has given this to you befor: Alvar Aalto's home at Riihitie 8. It's pricey (17 euros, or 30 if you want to visit his nearby studio too) but lovely. Guided tours in English on the hour from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. every day. http://www.alvaraalto.fi/index_en.htm
scaredy-catnoreply@blogger.com
