A beautiful Australian home inspired by nature

There are some homes that are just so unique and personal they're an absolute feast for the eyes and it actually doesn't matter how many times you see them, there's always something new to look at. Kara Rosenlund's beautiful tin and weatherboard cottage in Australia is one of them. Kara is a photographer (I've got one of her amazing seascapes on my sitting room wall), stylist, author and shop owner where she sells her own lifestyle range - in other words one talented, busy, lady!). She shares her home with husband Timothy O and a flock of chickens. The home is decorated with an abundance of treasured finds and 'natural tones and hues inspired directly from the palette of nature'. Let's take a tour....

Photos kindly sent to me by photographer extraordinaire Kara Rosenlund.

Just incredible, don't you think?! The detail, the distinct style, the natural elements, everything!

I love the autumnal colours too - beautiful.

You can see more pics of Kara's wonderful home here. And pick up items from her lifestyle range here as well as her beautiful photographic prints here (and a signed copy of her fab book: Shelter: How Australians Live).

I arrived in Norway last night for a three day photo shoot for my book - sooooo excited! It will be a hectic few days so I'm afraid I'm going to have to take a short break from the blog - and will be back again on Monday.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

PS don't forget to enter the give-away if you haven't already....

A lovely mix of modern and vintage in a Swedish home

Hello Monday! Today's another crazy day here. The girls and I have been in London for the weekend to celebrate my Mum's birthday - which we spent at Petersham Nurseries (I think I need a bigger garden...!)- and now we're heading back to Sweden (and me, onwards and upwards to Norway to shoot for my second book! Exciting!). But thankfully I've found a beautiful, calm home to help ease us all into the working week - snapshots from Johanna Bradford's apartment which was recently for sale (do you remember this feature?).  There's something a little nostalgic about Johanna's home (and many of her talented associates including Kristin Lagerkvist, Emma Von Brömmsen and Sofia Jansson) - it must be the lovely wallpaper? Either way Johanna's relaxed home is a perfect mix of modern and vintage so personal.  Let's take a tour....

Oh so lovely, don't you think?

I particularly love the hallway. In fact - I love everything about this home. How about you?

Get the look: The kitchen has been painted in light grey no.17 by Farrow & Ball. Row of hooks, Marshall speakers, wine glass rack, willow wallpaper, source a similar beautiful boucherouite rug, macrame wall hanging, Le Grand Air sofa, Gubi coffee table, Private rug.

Right, better get a move on! Wish me luck!

Have a great start to the week!

PS - have you entered the give-away yet? I don't think you'll want to miss out!

An idyllic white and wood Scandinavian style cabin

Wouldn't it be a dream to do up a summer cabin? I'm forever creating moodboards in my mind  - white floors, sheepskins, a sofa next to a roaring fire, an outdoor bathroom....(what does yours look like?). Perhaps we can all take some inspiration from John and Juli Baker's idyllic summer cottage overlooking Lake Huron in Canada? As owners of Mjölk, which sells 'pure, honest, and essential' items for the home with a gallery exhibiting 'work by artists and artisans from Scandinavia and Japan', it makes sense that the recently updated (see previous pictures here) country retreat has a Scandinavian look and feel to it.  Think white washed walls and floors and plenty of natural wood. Let's take a tour...

Pared back and simple yet super cosy. Everything that a rural retreat should be.

Could you imagine spending your weekends and holidays here?

Almost all the items you see in John and Juli's cabin are available at Mjölk - perfect!

For more inspiration in a similar style you might also want to check out their Toronto apartment.  And there's an entire archive dedicated to beautiful Scandinavian style cabins here (if this home comes up first just scroll past it). Feel free to dream away. You never know when that second home might crop up! Or perhaps you already have a summer cottage - in which case we'd love to see pictures?!

And that folks, is it from me - oh, except for an incredibly exciting give-away this weekend - so stay tuned and don't forget to stop by!

Right, better get packing for my trip to London and Norway now - eeeee, so excited!

Have a wonderful weekend and see you Monday!

An elegant Stockholm space that's cosy too!

Hello there! Is it just me or is this a crazy week? I'm so looking forward to a fleeting weekend in London to celebrate my Mums birthday (and relax) a little! In the meantime, this Stockholm apartment offers some really welcome breathing space with it's large, elegant rooms (just look at that kitchen!) and yet it manages to remain cosy at the same time - what a perfect balance?! I love how both bedrooms lead to an outdoor space too - perfect for morning coffees, or even a little fresh air first thing. Let's take a tour!

....and breathe!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have such large rooms to play with?

Get the look: dining - Eames chair, lamp with green marble base, sitting room - cognac leather pouf (beautiful!), sheepskin throw,  cheese and fig plants. Bedrooms: House of Baltic sells lovely stonewashed linen bedding, bentwood chair, cork stool.

Can anyone point us in the direction of the green cluster light?

Have a wonderful day!
