my scandinavian home: Details from a lovely, relaxed and vibrant family home

Details from a lovely, relaxed and vibrant family home

Thursday, 22 January 2015

After yesterday's 'man cave' (aka the fabulous Stockholm home of a fashion stylist), I thought today it was only fair to go for something a little more feminine. Situated in the 'sunshine state' of Florida, this home belongs to photographer Jen Smith, her 'handy' husband and two children. Pitched against a mainly white background, the beauty of this lovely light filled space lies in the detail. Bold textiles, artwork which pops and botanical touches add a ray of sunshine to every corner of the home. In fact, I couldn't imagine that this space is anything but sunny even on a rainy day, could you?

Is this your kind of style?

I used to be colour shy but recently I've noticed bright hues are slowly creeping into my home (I'm particularly fond of pinks). And now that spring's on it's way (I say, optimistically) I'm loving oh so fab Boucherouite or vintage kilim rugs, bold Turkish Kilim and intricate threadwork pillows / cushions from Thailand. And even weaved wall hangings such as these by MaryanneMoodie and this DIY Macrame one (project for the weekend perhaps?!).

Another touch I'm looking at for my home is sea-scape artwork and Jen's shop will be my first stop!

More bright and beautiful homes captured by Brittany Ambridge include this wonderful mexican space,  the Californian home of Annie Ziegler and the zen home of a LA fashion designer.

Have a lovely, bright, sun-shiny day!

  1. This is such a gorgeous, vibrant home. I love the bright pinks, especially, they're so fresh. Just right for the cold but rather spring-like day we're having in Edinburgh today! I've been considering painting my bed frame or chest of drawers bright pink as I think my monochrome bedroom scheme needs a pop of bold colour but I can't decide whether I'm brave enough (or whether the hubby would appreciate it!). Perhaps I will take inspiration from this fabulous house and just go for it! Thanks for sharing. Anna :)

    1. What a great idea!! I love bright pink. Go for it! Saying that, I have the added advantage that my husband is colour blind and actually thinks fuschia pink is red....shhhhh! ;)

    2. Wow, I love how every room has a unique character. I love Jen's eclectic mix of colors and one-of-a-kind objects. Her home is stunning.

  2. My absolute favourite ever, but would have appreciated more room shots. Corals and pinks in midwinter would really cheer me up, but white sofas still make me nervous since I routinely spill my coffee and tea, to say nothing of my boys. The bits of black like the rug and the wallpaper really set off the vignettes and send this whole residence into colour heaven.

  4. I am in the process of redecorating my family room and I have been inspired by things I have seen on your site. A living room is not only a great feature to enjoy while you live in your home, it will also attract buyers when you are ready to sell.
