A sustainable Finnish cabin

Yesterday it was so stormy here in Southern Sweden. I nipped around the corner for a coffee and the sea was full of white horses. It was all very exciting! A winter storm calls for a home at one with nature. And this Finnish retreat certainly fits the bill. I have seen the first picture so many times on Pinterest, but never the rest of the home. So here it is, the sustainable Four Cornered House in Virrat, Finland designed by Anu Puustinen and Ville Hara, Avanto Archtiects.

Architects: Avanto Architects Ltd / Ville Hara and Anu Puustinen, Photography: Anders Portman & Martin Sommerschield.

Imagine looking out of the vast windows into the wilderness? Or morning saunas with a vista? And there's that wonderful wood burning stove of course.

If you'd like to read more about this home and the sustainable ethos behind the architecture pop over to This is Paper (word of caution; you'll be stuck there for hours!).

Oh and my friend had a beautiful baby girl yesterday - such wonderful news!! I'm off to Loja Dada now for a little pressie and looking forward to a cuddle this weekend :)

Have a lovely few days and see you Monday!

This place is without a doubt a dream! I have also seen it before, but could look at it over and over. And I agree with This Is Paper - such a great spot for inspiration :)

Happy weekend and congrats to your friend!

I think I've seen the first picture before and maybe one or two of the other ones. I'd be curious to see what it looks like without all the snow!

This is Paper looks like a great site! Can't wait to spend (lots of) time over there. Thanks for the recommendation!

Congrats to your friends on their new baby girl! I love this home, and the way it feels so open to the outside, but I'm sure it's still toasty and warm inside. I could definitely pad around there and bask in the sunlight all day. Have a great weekend! xo

The use of glass in this house is pretty spectacular. Who needs anything else when one has that amazing connection to nature?!

Wishing I was here! It's been such a boring winter in the northwest, I'm dreaming of snow! Thanks for the wonderful post!

Oh wow. This would have to be very well heated to feel cozy! Take some photos of that sea next time there's a storm - I wanna see! Happy weekend :)

Crispy and light - but can't help but thinking of Ab fab and the "clean surfaces-episode". Where do we put the bottle of red wine?;)
