My dining room: touch of spring

I hope you all had a lovely weekend? My family and I headed off to a lake here in Southern Sweden called Krankesjön to enjoy some ice-skating and a barbicue on the frozen lake.  The sun was shining and the snow sparkled like diamonds. The only disconcerting noise was the eerie creaking of the ice!

Speaking of sparkling, I also got down to a little spring cleaning. All Christmas decorations are out and the first signs of spring have arrived in my dining area and it feels wonderful!

PS Incidentally I asked a friend from Stockholm about the sound of creaking ice and he said that it can be a sign of 'good ice' but you need to be a pro to know the difference. I certainly wasn't going to wait around to find out!

How was your weekend?

  1. Looks full of Spring! At least there's hope! I'm too afraid of entering the ice on water. Poor children of mine...but safety first:) caroline

    1. I completely agree with you, I'm always waiting for the authorities to announce lakes are OK to skate on and only then do I brave Krankesjön since it is under 1 metre deep!

  5. Beautiful dining room! I absolutely love your style. I know what you mean about creaking ice as well. I remember being out in the middle of the lake at our cottage years ago cross country skiing and hearing a HUGE cracking sound. I was terrified since the lake is over 100 feet deep there! I too was later told that it is normal.

  6. The flowers and candles are lovely any time of the year but I think especially when the days are short and somewhat gray. That cracking ice would've scared me to death!! LOL!!

  12. Ooohhh so so nice! Also, your home makes me want to declutter my room. IT HAS TO BE DONE. :)

The ice story is a bit freaky - I would definitely be the wimpy kid & not take any chances! xx

  13. Sigh. Your home is so lovely! I love the little buds on the table. And good call about not skating on the ice! I'll take my chances sitting on the sofa, rather than hearing "good ice" haha! xo

  14. Ah, a peek of spring is just what I needed, it was freezing cold here today. I used to ice skate on a nearby river as a kid and the creaking of the ice always freaked me out...

  17. Sounds like a lovely way to spend a weekend! The creaking definitely sounds a bit freaky though! We all crave the first signs of spring...but the next season here in New Zealand will be autumn...and I'm definitely not ready for that yet! ...though each season has its good points of course. Your dining room is just lovely with its view of the garden and the combination of white paint and wood.
